  1. If I'm a new GM, the only way I keep Plouffe is if I know for a fact that the field manager will make him a bench/utility player if that's what I say he needs to be. If I think for a minute that the manager may not be able to help himself and will give the veteran 500+ PA and start the majority of games at 3B, I'm taking that temptation away from him. As a new GM, I need time to see various combinations of Sano/Polanco/Escobar on the left side of the field to make some future decisions. Drew as well in this scenario I guess. I wouldn't want both Drew and Plouffe I don't think.
  2. Welcome to the site. I also don't agree on Sano and I don't agree that we know if he has an attitude problem, I've never seen anything to indicate he does. I also don't see the World Series next year so I have no problem shipping off Santana at an inflated price.
  3. Good ideas. I'm also not a fan of one year of Cozart though. I think the team would be hard pressed to see him worth about an 18M QO in 2018 also, I don't think that bat is going to play well at all going from Cincinnati to Minnesota. I'm also not as high on Reddick as most others are either. His OBP has only been decent the past couple of years, prior to that it was league average at best and his power is always enigmatic and only one lefty so far has had consistent success at Target Field in the power department and that was a HOF caliber guy with over 600 career HR to his name. He's always injured and/or slumps in the 2nd half too.
  4. Funny, I was just thinking that it meant Democrats perhaps just aren't procrastinators. I got up early to vote. On a side note does anyone else feel guilty waiting in line and making presumptions about who your line-mates are going to vote for based on physical appearance alone? Or am I the only one who does that?
  5. Forgive me for being a complete idiot when it comes to this stuff, but if we went away from cable (or Direct TV in our case) there aren't options for my wife to watch her current shows on HGTV or E! and I wouldn't be able to watch current shows on AMC or USA or sports on TBS or ESPN right?
  6. My mother in law is staying with us, and let's just say she votes opposite of me. So I'll probably be watching and drinking. Hopefully I can think of a good reason to go watch (and drink) in the basement all by myself.
  7. "Worker" in quotation marks sounds apt. It'd be nice if we actually started getting folks who were willing to show up and do their jobs. Or a job, any job.
  8. Scalia's death and the ensuing BS in not allowing Obama to nominate someone probably seems like ancient history considering how this election cycle is going. The Dems probably should have/should be hitting that much harder. Or maybe they are in areas where GOP senators are at risk, I'm not in one of those areas. Nationally it has been talked about much too little since the primaries if you ask me.
  9. Good thing we invented Facetime then. Long-distance lovability is much easier than it used to be.
  10. While I agree with the underlying relief, no one congratulates BP because they cleaned up their oil spills. If the Twins were a cable company or telephone provider we wouldn't be grateful because they would have gone out of business years ago due to poor service and lack of features. Other businesses are financially motivated to provide more than the bare minimum to their customers due to a competitive market place. Since sports service regional customers, unless you're in an area with more than one team to cheer for, bare minimum is an option unfortunately. So I'm happy, but I'm not grateful; we deserved this and more long, long ago.
  11. Yes, if Pohlad and/or St Peter start dictating player decisions they might as well just throw in the towel because this whole front office restructuring would be a sham. Not that I think they will. Pohlad always appeared to be pretty hands-off prior to Ryan getting fired and St Peter has never shied away from the fact that he's not a baseball tactician. I would also guess the addition of new and unfamiliar people in the front office might scare off any meddling as no one can be sure that lips won't be looser with the new crew; an ambitious but disgruntled go-getter might go and blab to La Velle. Also, the only reason I could think of for ownership to meddle is to sell more tickets, and clearly they already saw Dozier doesn't sell tickets.
  12. One of those clubs has a much easier path to the closer role than the others. If that should be of any interest to a relief pitcher interested in rebuilding his value and trying to get another good sized payday down the road.
  13. While I am relieved that ownership is finally doing something, I'm going to have a hard time applauding them. If rubes like us have been saying things have been insufficient for years, they surely knew they were behind. It still took five historically terrible seasons out of six and attendance dropping at their new stadium to act. This seems more like someone only changing their behavior because Social Services came knocking at their door and threatened to take away the kids. Good article and link though.
  14. http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/06/politics/comey-tells-congress-fbi-has-not-changed-conclusions/index.html While no talk of emails is great for Clinton, getting cleared three days before the election seems like the exact number of days you would want it to happen.
  15. Yes. Not that that has any impact on baseball decisions though.
  16. Which makes it hard to say, but they were pretty classy letting Thome throw on a rival AL Central team's jersey on national TV.
  17. I have no idea if this guy is any good, but you have to break the seal sometime. It seems to me that teams that sign one Cuban player end up getting involved with other Cuban players as well. Off the top of my head I can't think of any Twins players from Kansas. If they have been unnecessarily cautious of that pipeline as well I'd be good with them breaking the seal there too. Getting good players is only half the battle in this organizational rebuild. Changing philosophy/strategy is also important.
  18. Agreed. Things like volunteering or Civil Service can still be "work" if in the future traditional jobs are sparse and/or obsolete. It's not like the alternative to a traditional job is sleeping until noon and watching TV all day. I'd hope people could find value in their lives even if they aren't compensated directly for specific actions.
  19. Groundballs sound like a negative attribute to me. If the new front office is like the old one in that they don't realize that targeting groundball pitchers and pairing them with poor defensive infielders is a bad idea, I'm going to be disappointed. Groundball or flyball regardless, I think Nova is an NL only pitcher now. I don't want another one of those guys on a long term deal. Same goes for Hellickson. For my money when it comes to free agent pitchers, go big or go dumpster diving. There's nothing to go big on this year.
  20. What's the hold up, why haven't we made any moves yet?! Looks like another boring off season.
  21. You don't get to the bottom of that problem until you start talking Socialism which can still get you lynched in some counties. It sounds inevitable though, I don't think there really is any other end result of long term sustainability for our species without it. Either that or institutionalized cannibalism.
  22. Looks like a good year to be a rebuilding team with a handful of desirable pieces with no real comps on the free agent market.
  23. His job requirements include organizing Brian Dozier bobblehead give-away day not Brian Dozier relocation day. St. Peter doesn't make these calls.
  24. Damn, life must be so fun without a conscience or magnetism toward morality. Never feeling guilty about doing and saying awful things must be awesome.
  25. I must be missing the point. Nick Blackburn was the #56 prospect in 2008, Masterson was #64. Any GM unwilling to consider a signing bonus of 500K for a top 100 prospect has no business being a GM.
