  1. He doesn't have to do them any favors, he just has to want the same thing; that being an even greater income disparity and every possible economic advantage slanted toward them instead of the lower and middle class. Make America Corporate Again, er Still. Real change going to happen now that the 1% are running things for the first time ever.
  2. Well Allen didn't say the Twins weren't teaching FB command but he did say they didn't actually make the young guys get a handle on it. The Allen retention also surprises me, but to be fair we as fans have seen this abomination for much longer than Favely and Levine have. We may be too deep into the forest to see the trees. We did want outsider perspective after all, it's not like we're outsiders.
  3. To be fair, I'd think nearly all prospects should project as such. Even most of the top prospect arms would be lucky to hit that mark. I thought his FB had more zip though, that prospect round up did turn me off a bit also.
  4. With how popular Castro is here, the dearth of free agents to spend money on and the Twins annual unlucky timing in terms of need vs supply, I'm guessing Castro is going to command more money and/or years than we expect. Not that the Twins won't be or shouldn't be the team to bite. Ha, it is fun to picture the Twins fans who only know back-of-the-baseball-card stats seeing his career .232 avg and flipping out about signing him to a multi-year deal.
  5. I agree that this was a large part of his voting bloc, but we can't pretend that he didn't still need the bigots and the mysoginists to win, he wasn't going to win with "anti-establishment" votes alone. Silver lining: Based on the fact that the polls were so off, there were almost certainly a ton of people who voted Trump but were too ashamed to even admit it to pollsters. Those people can be flipped again if/when Trump lets them down.
  6. I think it always would have. At best it would have been re-routed and that was a longshot. ND's new governor got elected with the same anti-establishment hysteria based mostly on the previous "old boys club" Republicans kowtowing to the oil companies and the ensuing dropping oil prices. He's a fiscally conservative business man running on economic diversity but is generally socially liberal. People around here want the oil money and don't want to be told what to do by "liberals" and the EPA, but they also are fed up with the oil companies and the ghost towns they are leaving behind. I wouldn't be surprised if the new governor starts initiatives that make ND the leading supplier of wind energy in the next decade. He's a Republican who got no donations from big oil (but tons from Bill Gates); wind power is going to be an easy path to show a "diverse economy" and it would still help the state stay as a leader in energy production.
  7. I agree and that was my point. His campaign platforms seem to undermine this effort. If he truly wants to get these projects done, he'll likely have to abandon some of the garbage he claimed during his campaigns.
  8. I couldn't listen to it, but I finally got under control enough to read Trump's acceptance speech. It wasn't bad, I thought it would be full of "I told you so's". It wasn't and he didn't threaten to imprison his political rival this time so that's a plus. --"We are going to fix our inner cities and rebuild our highways, bridges, tunnels, airports, schools, hospitals. We're going to rebuild our infrastructure, which will become, by the way, second to none. And we will put millions of our people to work as we rebuild it."-- This is literally the first policy he mentions in his speech, if he's serious about this, I'll at least listen. This kind of overhaul sounds like it can only be accomplished with Public Works kind of stuff though which obviously is a liberal/socialist idea and goes against most of his party's strict capitalistic principles. Also, he may find that he needs many of the Mexican laborers he wants to get rid of to accomplish these projects. Trump is stubborn, I'm fine if he's stubborn about investing in our infrastructure.
  9. You mean lower taxes on caviar and champagne. Taxes on bread and butter will go up, that's lower middle class fare.
  10. If Trump even attempts his wall/deportation policies the Dems will have to be absurdly incompetent in 2020 (wholly possible) not to be able to mobilize the Hispanic vote next time out; it should have been much, much higher and it's a clear path to winning. They absolutely HAVE to have someone who appeals to them while Trump is still running. The party leaders can't risk alienating that demographic any further and letting Rubio or whomever the GOP has after 2020 denouncing Trump's policies and getting those folks on his side. I'm wondering which party splits though. I still think it could go either way. Perhaps both. It's looking more and more like the Clinton Democrats and the Graham Republicans have more in common than the other side of each party. Social issues are almost all that separate them.
  11. So do the Dems overcompensate and use Trump's game plan in 2020? Do they find a non-traditional candidate? It's probably the wrong move but I could see it happening. Looking at you Jon Stewart. The Dems need to do better with the Hispanic vote, they need to start grooming an answer to Marco Rubio I think. Also, what are the odds that in four years a sitting president doesn't get his own parties nomination? I think it's decent.
  12. I'm calling it. I'm going to bed, I probably won't sleep but I'm done watching just the same.
  13. I still think it's a fruitless battle in the long run, evolution is inevitable even if Conservatives try to drag their feet. People are flocking to liberal metro areas like Denver, Portland, Seattle and Las Vegas. Rust Belt states and rural areas are losing population/electoral votes (sadly) to these progressive areas like never before. This is a step back but we will get back on track. Or maybe I'm just an optimist.
  14. Is it almost better to lose now? Unless something big changes in the next four years now, whoever wins is probably only a four term president. Can the elderly SC justices hold on four more years?
  15. I think a lot of these people view Trump as a third party candidate. Probably something we all will look back at and say , oh duh, maybe we should have seen this coming.
  16. I misread them. Maybe Sanders would have done just fine. I thought all Trump would have to do is call him a pinko red commie one time and it would have been over. I have no clue what other people actually care about now.
  17. Clinton can make up 30K in Detroit still and get NH.
  18. Trump and/or the RNC's biggest win was convincing people to get upset about the "establishment". People always hate politicians, but only now after 240 years of the same thing it needed to change? Well done.
  19. Should have gone with a Latino running mate. I'd trade Virgina for Florida right now.
  20. Cheering for Iowa, Wisconsin and Detroit in a Minnesota sports thread. Hope none of these middle class angry white men voting Trump were depending on their 401Ks for retirement.
  21. I care less about the president than what will happen to the SC. I feel so ashamed.
  22. I'm really questioning these guys' ability to do simply statistics on the fly.
  23. And don't think the networks aren't aware of this and don't want to milk all the drama they can. They don't want folks going to bed at 10:00. Not that I'm still not nervous.
  24. Losing faith in Americans. I'm starting to make some scarlet T's and I'm demanding all those voting Trump to wear them.
  25. I was in line behind an overweight, slovenly middle-aged guy who almost certainly never in his life had much luck with women, so my thoughts immediately were that he was surely voting Trump. That doesn't make me a racist but some kind of prejudiced certainly. Then I thought if I were in a movie the guy would turn out to be an eloquent and open-minded literary and sociology expert who would start dropping Susan B. Anthony quotes and defy my unfair expectations.
