    But it also makes the Jason Castro signing make less sense in my view. Why are the Twins signing two veteran free agent catchers for the 25-man when they need to find a long-term solution? Forget about Gimenez, I want Garver, Murphy or mystery door #3 to at least have a shot to overtake Castro by next year if not earlier. I'm fine with the Castro signing, but it's not like he's so good that the team shouldn't be actively looking for a young guy as an improvement.

    Good were making jokes even though I was a bit sad about this one. So I was wondering if the Bill Paxton death meme was going to be "Game over man" or a picture of Bill Pulman saying "RIP Bill Paxton".

    Was that before or after the Falvey and Lavine hiring and the Johnson & Johnson scouting director switch? Just wondering because Wright looks more like a vintage Terry Ryan kind of pitcher. On the other hand Deron Johnson lately seemed to go the other way and take the bigger FB/higher ceiling arms.

    That's the feeling I get, though to be fair, they probably do actually care about the players and do want them to have success, it would be hard to get into coaching if you don't have at least some interest in young people. They just seem to care about their job security much, much more. Unreasonably too considering college baseball coaches don't get fired nearly as much as their counterparts in the higher profile football and basketball ranks. I'd bet they justify it to themselves because the pitcher says he wants to go out there for another inning, they then conveniently forget that athletes, and young men in general, have a tendency to have low impulse control and a vision only of the here-and-now and these young men need an adult with a big picture view to reign in their recklessness.

    After Greene I've been most interested in Faedo. That might change though if he keeps throwing 120 pitches per game. Man, the velocity will leave his FB before he's 25 if he keeps getting abused like that. Seriously, It's still February, some of those coaches from big programs seem to have next to no concern for anything past the June college WS. A playoff by the way that Florida is almost certainly going to be part of whether Faedo throws 119 pitches in February or not.

    Russell Okung is also now available. The LT market is looking better each day. Not great, just better. Two weeks ago Matt Kalil probably thought he could sucker a team into multi years of guaranteed salary despite coming off of a lost season. Not so much anymore.

    I know it's unorthodox, but I agree with the Twins retiring his number, he seemed to have their number.

    It was 27 years off on me. I think in this case calling me 64 was a compliment though.

    If I was going to censor you I would have hidden your post. I'm not a fan of people turning their assumptions into facts. I think it's fair to say, "I THINK he looks out of shape." I think it's unfair to factually claim, "He's out of shape." That basically goes for all opinions on all subjects, not just Sano's weight.

    I also think a losing atmosphere and team-wide struggles are contagious. I don't know why, but I'd guess if you are surrounded by dejection and poor confidence you probably can fall victim to a self-fulfilling prophecy of similar nature. I wonder how he would have done had he debuted in 2015 when the team was amped and in a pennant race? 2015 and 2016 were light and day for Duffey who basically got the spot most of us were hoping Berrios would grab.

    Why would you think he can't play defense? I've never seen anything to suggest he would be a liability.

    The dreaded 5/12 seed match up. Yeah, that does sound exactly like something that would happen to the Gophers at this point in their development.

    That's the rumors we're hearing, but I think the Rubio for Rose stuff is just speculation and not at all based on anything the front office has been saying. For what it's worth, Rubio is playing as many minutes now as he ever has despite the fact that Thib's supposed PG of the future is already on the team. There's a lot of smoke so I believe the talk that Rubio has fallen out of favor, but at this point without more evidence I'm still taking it with a grain of salt.

    I went into Goliath wanting it to be both smart and realistic in terms of how the legal system and those within the profession worked. It wasn't terrible but it seemed like a John Grisham story with a genius do-it-all protagonist lawyer and an evil-beyond-reason villain. John Grisham stories weren't bad, and there was a reason all of them got made into movies, but I think I've been spoiled by TV lately, I wanted something different. Better. Maybe my perspective was simply based on my mood as well.

    So what are people's thoughts on the Wolves' interest in Derrek Rose? Speculation is that Rubio could be shipped out which makes sense considering the position redundancy. Rose would be a rental, so basically he'd be acquired to try to get the Wolves in position to get trounced by the Warriors in round one of the playoffs. On the other hand he has an expiring contract which is positive if the team wants to bid on a good free agent next year. If Rubio and Rose are both gone next year, are we cool giving Dunn the keys to the car?

    Ozzie Smith didn't get into the HOF because of his bat. The only reason people wouldn't say that he couldn't hit was because he is a beloved icon and it would seem rude to do so. Vielma also has a career .327 OBP, which isn't very satisfying considering there is no slugging to prop it up.
