  1. If there's more college age pitching in the Appy League then maybe I'd send him there if they feel he's not being challenged in the GCL. If it's a horse apiece, then I guess I'd keep him in Ft. Myers as well if only to get more time with the instructors down there. If he has any chance to be a SS, I'd like to see them do everything possible to continue that development.
  2. As far as I know they haven't made any trades. I wouldn't expect a ton in season. As far as the pitchers they add on minor league deals, every club does that. I was never expecting that method of acquiring players to be a big part of putting a team together. Like I said, I'll give them the year to evaluate; come snowfall they better be making the trades and free agent signings needed to put together a contender.
  3. It hasn't but I understand why his track record is appealing to others. I admitted I've been wrong predicting his demise every year but I still don't care much for crafty lefties; not just him.
  4. Ha, it is really difficult to determine if this is a tongue-in-cheek pot-shot at the Twins or not.
  5. As far as the AAA scouting skills, is there someone you're referring to? Or do you just mean the Breslow/Rucinsky/Tepesch/Wilk stuff? Yeah, none of that was impressive. I'm not sure it was supposed to be though; I sure hope not. I always said I'll give them the first year free to evaluate. After that I'm going to expect to be wowed by their moves because I'm not settling for half measures made to desperately try for a .500 record and one-and-done playoff appearances.
  6. I wasn't a fan of Quintana last year either when his name was mentioned as a trade target for teams. I've never been a believer. Perhaps it was always the fact that he was a scrap heap pick up who had been DFA'd by two different teams despite the fact that the teams had never even needed to use an option on him. These kind of guys always seemed to be a flash in the pan who's bubble soon burst. I always thought he was a smoke-and-mirrors lefty though I'll readily admit that for the previous five years my lack of faith was in no way supported by his results. He clearly proved me wrong every year. But he's still a 2 1/2 pitch pitcher with sudden control issues. I'll never trust him. I don't know what's up with him this year, but I'd guess the sudden loss of curve in his curveball isn't helping: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/velo.php?player=500779&b_hand=-1&gFilt=&pFilt=FA|SI|FC|CU|SL|CS|KN|CH|FS|SB&time=year&minmax=ci&var=pfx_z&s_type=2&startDate=03/30/2007&endDate=07/12/2017
  7. I'd like to think the new front office has their teams looking for the undervalued guys. I'd rather look for the upside guys you can buy low on. Get our own Arrieta, or Straily or Scherzer (2009) or Kulber or Robbie Ray. Except for the elite arms, trading for good-not-great pitchers rarely seems to payoff for the buyers. I don't think many of these guys available are elite.
  8. Perhaps, but as we saw with the Dozier situation last winter, demand is more important. It'll probably always be relatively high for pitchers though I concede.
  9. He hasn't been nearly as good this year and he's all of a sudden developed an issue with walks when his success has always been based almost exclusively on good control. Also, he's all but a two-pitch pitcher now as he rarely uses his change-up. I mean if you can get him based on the value of his numbers this year, sure, I'd be interested. I doubt the White Sox would trade him under that pretense though. Also there's the issue of helping the White Sox reload. Yuck.
  10. I agree, that's why I wouldn't bother with any of these mid-season asking prices and would wait until the off season when the selling teams have to also compete with free agents who cost zero prospects.
  11. Of the names bandied around, only Chris Archer really interests me. Nearly everyone else looks like injury or regression candidates. If this team is trading away top prospects, I'd rather they go big and get a guy who would be #1 with a bullet, not a Gray or Straily or Quintana who have big question marks. So I'd wait until the off season because I doubt there's an package the Rays would accept for Archer that didn't either include Sano or Berrios.
  12. If "the swing itself is fine and he’s strong as heck" I wish he'd explain why he doesn't think he can hit high level pitching. Also, yes, I'm in love with Brent Rooker.
  13. Interesting they are calling it Stranger Things 2. Like it's a sequel, not a new season. Until recently, sequels have historically been panned and the 1980's might have been the worst offender when it comes to terrible sequels due to all the bad slasher films. I wonder if they are intentionally playing up that angle to set and then (hopefully) break expectations. The first season wasn't really self-aware though, so I hope the second doesn't come off like it is.
  14. I agree that labeling Stewart a bust is premature due to his age and the fact that he's still not using options. However assuming that he does make it to the majors, it looks like he's surely going to be a high contact sinkerballer akin to Blackburn and Gibson so even if not a bust, he's not someone I'm really going to look forward to taking up a rotation spot. I've personally moved on. But it was still the right pick knowing what everyone knew back then. He was number #4 on pretty much everyone's board, mine included.
  15. One month I might really dig Reusse, the next he might get nothing from me but eye-rolls, but he's a really good picture-painting journalist and no matter what his take happens to be it's compelling and well written. Good for him.
  16. Interesting, except for this quote: "Twins fans can look forward to slap singles, drag bunts, stolen bases and great outfield defense." He may underestimate what Twins fans look forward to these days. I'd much prefer drives to the gap.
  17. That's interesting because didn't we just read something from Falvey or Lavine about player input and one of the numerous things mentioned was seeing how the players felt about pre-game batting practice? Can't remember what article that was from but it vaguely caught my attention as it's basically baseball dogma that batting practice must be done. Cool. Do something different, I like it.
  18. I'd guess it's just your typical atypical Sunday lineup. Sunday off-days to regulars is pretty common. Molitor is a lame duck manager too, he's managing for his next contract. I think he makes plenty of poor decisions but I'd think it unlikely he's intentionally failing to spite a pitcher.
  19. Yeah, I'm not really interested unless the plan is to let him regain some value and flip him for a (very minimal) return. But his spot is inevitable I'd think, he's not signing here if it wasn't.
  20. I can't imagine Colon came here instead of going back to the Mets unless the Twins promised him a rotation spot. I'd guess he'll be in the rotation after the AS break but whether it's Santiago's or Gibson's spot will be determined by Santiago's health. I'm surprised both Colon and Gee don't take both of their spots though. Perhaps Santiago's attitude after his last shelling is indicative of his normal behavior and the team wants to hold off as long as possible putting him in the pen because the team knows he'll be disruptive if demoted? Also, giving Gibson, not Colon the honor of getting shelled by Houston might just be intentionally setting the table for a "straw that broke the camel's back" kind of scenario. Otherwise, wouldn't Mejia really be the team's 3rd starter at this point?
  21. It's probably just me, but I get the sense that if Molitor was to be asked who his team MVPs were, he may say Castro and Giminez in some order, stats be damned. And not only Molitor, but front office guys also. Just a feeling and I hope I'm wrong; I'd like to see Garver regularly.
  22. I love Buxton's speed but Glynn's read was fantastic, and he's had quite a few unorthodox reads this year. He's a fantastic 3rd base coach. Being comfortable with the unconventional makes me think he could be a good MLB manager. Somewhere.
  23. Right but he was 25 last we checked in on him. All I'm saying is learning some life lessons the hard way can often give a young person the motivation they need to correct course. I know I had a few humbling experiences that made me change my ways.
  24. It would have been nice. The opening of Target Field coinciding with the end of the Twins run of relevance put them in a tough spot. I'm sure they felt they couldn't completely sell out and stockpile assets for future use after getting their new ballpark. The half measures they took didn't work anyway though so hopefully they see it's better to commit one way or another in future situations.
