  1. At one point I had Vazquez, Giles, Yates, Smith, Diaz, Lugo, Iglesias and Garrett on my wish list but due to more recent rumors, their team's recent actions and injuries, I've felt I had to mentally cross most of them off. Though only in pencil, the sellers could just be gaming everyone, or have a change of heart.
  2. Right, if I have to settle for Daniel Hudson and Roenis Elias I will, but ugh, if that's the best this team can do, whether it's anyone's fault or not, this deadline is going to be a big let down after the flurry of rumors that have been flying for the last month.
  3. What if Sergio Romo ends up being the best reliever traded? Not just for the Twins, but the entire league. I'm worried that if the Pirates don't move Vazquez, there will be nothing but Romo-esque types available. This is disappointing, MLBTR is quieter this morning than it has been in two weeks. Bad vibes. Hopefully it's just the calm before the storm.
  4. I'll be pretty disappointed if there's not a significant addition to the pitching staff, preferably two or three. I'm starting to worry that very few pitchers of consequence are actually available though. I mentally departed with Kirilloff a week ago, so I'll hope there isn't a top end pitcher who gets moved who could have been obtained using him.
  5. Yeah, I could still make a list of players I'd want who I actually think will be traded, but that list is significantly shorter than it was a week ago when it looked like half the league was for sale. Still have 6+ hours for teams to change course though.
  6. I'm glad to see Celestino growing some pop, I used to think he had a Jarrod Dyson kind of ceiling. Becoming even a marginal MLB player like Dyson obviously is still a long shot, but I'm a bit more comfortable that he now does have a higher offensive ceiling than that.
  7. Seems like Giles is out, or at least he should be. Sounds like Syndergaard has mostly been a bluff this whole time. I've always been of the mind that AZ was too good and wouldn't actually sell, we'll see. If the Giants end up deciding to go for it and Pittsburgh holds on to Vazquez, we might not see as much activity today as everyone thought.
  8. I don’t get this move for SD. Trammell has to be one of the most over-hyped prospects out there. He is only a corner outfielder and his only plus quality is that he’s young for his league. At some point you have to be a plus hitter if you’re going to be a corner bat and get a top 50 ranking, don’t you? It’s almost like he’s being ranked as if he played SS. Reyes had 5+ seasons of control left, I’m not a big fan of his either, but what is the bonus to swapping these two?
  9. I wasn’t big on the move when reported, but after hearing his interview I was looking to extend him. He found out he got traded at 2AM, caught a flight to Chicago at 5 AM for a 1:00 game. When La Velle asked why he did that for a game he would never pitch in, his answer was that “We” were only one game up and “We” will do anything to make the playoffs. I don’t think he’d even met the team yet.
  10. His interview with La Velle five hours after he was traded, he sounded like Jeff Spicoli after a pot of coffee.
  11. I bet Cleveland gets back Renfroe or Reyes, plus a couple prospects. Yawn.
  12. Yeah it’s a shame, should have good markets for baseball down there. Can’t imagine attendance will really improve as much as they hope if the Rays move from St Pete to Tampa.
  13. How about start with “if” there are no trades instead of “when” so as not to start the game thread out on a grouchy note four posts in.
  14. Agree with Colina as well. If he keeps mowing them down in AA he's going to be impossible to ignore come end of the season.
  15. I'm surprised how many 2019 picks made the list, five total and four in the top 16? That seemed high considering I wasn't enamored with too many of those picks.
  16. Yeah too bad. I was all gung-ho about free agent relievers last year, I'm quite confident there are multiple posts somewhere around here were I proclaimed there were close to two dozen of them I'd love to get my hands on, and those four weren't anywhere near my favorites. Oops.
  17. If I was the Rockies, I'd be telling the Astros, Twins, Padres, Yankees and Braves to show them their rejected Syndergaard proposals if for no other reason than to stir the pot.
  18. Right, but we're hearing chatter about every other pitcher with less than 3 years of control on losing teams. Some winning teams as well. Why Ray and Syndergaard but not Gray? Matthew Boyd has even more control and we've been hearing his name for over a month now.
  19. They seem to love left handed corner bats, can never have too many of those in Denver it seems. Probably let them pick either Kirilloff or Larnich and one of Raley or Blankenhorn then toss in Jake Cave for good measure and they'll let you take whatever right handed human being you want from their roster.
  20. I'm still surprised there's next to no chatter about Rockies players being moved. I'd take an under-the-radar Jon Gray deal.
  21. If Syndergaard and the Mets' controllable bullpen pieces end up staying put, I"m going to come to the conclusion that all this talk about selling was some kind of weird ploy to hide the fact that they were planning on being buyers all along and after Marcus Stroman. That team looks really, really good. Outside of that messy front office/coaching staff dynamic.
  22. Even if they don't have a deal yet, I'd probably pull him tonight in case something terrible happens which would make it difficult to deal him tomorrow.
  23. If I was interested in other pitchers, I'd probably prefer not to talk about it, but that would have also gone for Stroman and Syndergaard. I know there's a catharsis for us to hear the rumors, but strategically, I don't know that it's always for the benefit of the team. MLBTR chat just suggested that the Mets may go ahead and pull a Jaime Garcia and re-flip Stroman. He's not a guy I care for, but the Mets turning around and flipping him to the Twins for what everyone but the Jays perceived as the better offer sounds about as nuts as I'd expect from both organizations.
  24. I'm not going to be happy if they come away from this deadline with only Romo in their hands, but I don't know about holding their feet to the fire for free agents. They didn't get Darvish or Kimbrel, but it seems to me they've gotten more of them that they've been rumored to be attached to than most teams the last two years. Certainly the organization has signed way more legit free agents the last two years than ever before.
  25. Using the lists are fine for evaluation, it's the 'Someone's lying to me because there's no way the Blue Jays wouldn't have preferred Kirilloff or Graterol or Larnich' that's going to drive me crazy today.
