  1. What?!?! Clemens is better in every aspect of the game. Yours truly -Roger
  2. Not going to be upset with Lewis; that's shaping up to be a pretty poor draft class. Yeah, you probably pick Hunter Greene in hindsight? But, he's on his second TJ, so good chance he's already done.
  3. I agree Falvey had zero to do with the debt. But no other team has reported losses even a fraction of this. So I'm beyond confident that the 500M in debt was due to Minnesota Twins LLC holding a K1 ownership percentage for the Pohlad's real estate and car dealership businesses. This way they could allocate the losses (but also allocate earnings for other K1 holders) onto the franchise and try to pawn them off onto a prospective buyer for the team.
  4. I'm not giving any owners credit unless they start flexing with the payroll. If the Twins are better this year, the reason and the solution for next time the franchise is in a funk seems obvious; just fire the stinking manager. Might not be his fault, he might be the greatest human who ever walked the planet. But a fresh voice in a stale room should always be the first step. Outside of Billy Gardner, it's basically been a guaranteed 10 win improvement every time.
  5. Yeah, it seemed when Joe was running things initially he was excited to be playing with a new toy. He wanted to spend money and rebuild the roster. So when Joe was riding high at the Twins 30-year peak as as King Pohlad because the team finally won a playoff series and fan interest was high, I found it highly unlikely that the guy who still had champagne in his hair was actually the one who pulled the plug on spending and being competitive. That really felt like it came down from whomever was actually holding Joe's leash.
  6. Things may be going well on the cheap beer front. As a beer snob I wasn't going to wait in line for Coors Light anyway. And agreed. Tip your servers. These people are almost all volunteers anyway. Working for good causes getting a small cut from the concessions to raise money for their charities or clubs or whatever. Tip all servers, but especially ones giving up their day for good causes.
  7. I haven't been during this iteration. Last time they did this, it was only available at three stands, which means you'd have get there early just to wait in line for 45 minutes and get just one $2 beer. But as much as I don't like what's going on off the field, or the disinterest in paying for good players, I'll give Tom credit for being very visible and very open to the media at a time I was convinced the entire family was going to hide in a cave.
  8. Ugh, gross. Why did the Red Sox give the White Sox so many prospects for such a crappy pitcher?!?!
  9. Not to bump your research, but this one is currently irking me: The Saints currently only have one relief pitcher under the age of 27 on the roster. And that one player, Marco Raya, is the only one they drafted. Can this team please stop trying to fortify the pen with older players other teams don't want?
  10. Barnes is one of those where you wonder why in the heck the team never put him in the bullpen, which was pretty clearly the place he was supposed to be. But he was in the upper minors the years the Twins were using Rich Hill, JA Happ and Matt Schoemaker in the rotation. Even Griffin Jax. If a guy shouldn't be a starter, he shouldn't be a starter just because you're desperate. You can grab someone off the waiver wire instead who will likely be just as ineffective.
  11. Morris might have been one of the last of these kinds of starters I moved to relief, but I've been in favor of this all winter. I think this move would have worked out better if they'd done it during spring camp where he could focus and learn the nuances of his new role instead of stretching him out, but I do like this bad-news/good-news dynamic. Sorry, we're moving you to the pen, BUT you're finally getting promoted to the show. Hopefully it works out as well as it did for Jhoan Duran and Taylor Rogers. I hope at minimum they get two more of these guys in the pen from St. Paul by midseason.
  12. I’d like to trade down two spots with the Cowboys. Because right before the Steelers seems like the spot some dumb team might trade up for Ty Simpson. If you could get the Jets or Browns 2027 1st…….
  13. As fans of the sport, we should want MLB to appeal to all of the country’s best athletes. Instead, due to horrible brand promotion and poor accessibility mostly due to no push by the league for communities to continue cheap municipal run leagues instead of expensive club leagues, MLB has voluntarily given up a huge pool of talent to other sports. You absolutely should give a damn about diversity. Giving everyone the same access now sets up the league, businesses, schools and society as a whole, the broadest talent pool in the next generations.
  14. Infield hit after pretending to blow out your ACL? Baller move.
  15. Claimed and DFA'd three times? You sound like the Orioles.
  16. Anyway, back to the Hope-o-Meter. The Twins beat Tarik Skubal yesterday. We get a couple percentage points back for that?
  17. Odorizzi is bad now? In the trade, the Twins only took on his final arbitration years, the final of which he was the best starter on a 100 win team. Any team that's unwilling to pay arbitration to a mid-rotation starter could only count a trade a win in terms of saving the owner money.
  18. The Reds have DFA'd Christian Encarnacion-Strand. The Twins are now free to (half) remedy one this site's most mourned trades. As a right handed first baseman, he could really give Kody Clemens a run for his money in the On Base Percentage department. Seriously, not serious.
  19. ****Moderator note***** Some tangent posts have been removed, back on topic please.
  20. I took the bait and looked at your map. Every pro baseball team in the nation is in red. Strange that even stadiums like in Milwaukee and Kansas City are in red considering they are all alone in a sea of pavement and nothing else around it. Almost like pro stadiums draw enough people that the fans themselves are causing the crime that is skewing the data? Can't be, but from your same link, here's a 'Violent Crime' breakdown of the North Loop: 80% of the violent crime is assault and the rest is nearly negligible? Surely it's a coincidence that professional sports stadiums ALSO report a high number of assaults due to intoxication and heated fan arguments. Could it be that it's the STADIUMS and the million plus entitled fans they draw each year that are actually bringing the crime to the neighborhood, and it's not the NEIGHBORHOOD that brings the crime to the stadium? Anyway, can't move the team to Charlotte or Nashville. Or even Omaha or Des Moines. And if you wanted to stay in market, you also wouldn't be able to move the team to downtown Duluth, Rochester, Sioux Falls or Fargo. Sorry for the tone, but this propaganda has all gone too far. I know the propaganda isn't being created by average folks like us, but it is absolutely being digested and disseminated by average folks like us; we're doing the bad guys bidding by doing so.
  21. He didn't exactly answer the Clemens comp because OBP history alone should make Roden the preferred choice.
  22. For sure, but by then most fans will have stopped watching. And getting fans to watch was very clearly the goal of this organization this offseason. And like usual, they absolutely bungled it.
  23. I'm really tempted to go with the Last Word fallacy, but alas, I am unable to lock Ash's blog entries.
  24. I think Gabriel Gonzalez is the one they are eyeing for the switch. Looks like he did get one game at 1B in St. Paul so far. I'm more than fine if they move on from both Wageman and Sabato.
