  1. Whitey Herzog, is that you?
  2. As @ashbury said, just because the team is taking advantage of the weak schedule, that doesn't mean that they're for real. I'm not quite as pessimistic as he is, but I'm also a realist. I think "real" is relative. Given the division, they should be favored to win it. I even upped my expected win total on the season largely because of how bad the division is. But that doesn't make them a legitimate and real contender. I said before the season that this team will go as far as the young guys will take it. The young pitchers have stepped up so far, but they've shown chinks in the armor too. The young bats have done a decent job overall, but still need plenty of work as exhibited by last night. The Kershaw's and Verlander's of the baseball world are what they'll be facing in the playoffs almost every day.
  3. Wrist issues are always problematic for baseball players. Until he's healthy, I worry that he'll have concerns with the bat. I don't know what the answer is, but he probably should be in St Paul, but I understand that isn't really an option at the moment. Hopefully he's able to find his groove wherever he's playing. And I think he should be playing every day if he's able. No sense sitting on the bench unless his wrist is the issue, but then he should probably be back on the IL.
  4. Thanks for another great write-up, Seth! Much to be excited about throughout the organization. I had missed that Enlow was coming back this week. Good to see him back on the mound even if he did get kicked around some. Not too surprising, but add him back onto the list of pitchers that I'm paying attention to.
  5. I haven't been keeping real close attention, but it seems like Martin is still finding his way on base despite not hitting all that well. And once he does get on, he makes it count. At least he still seems to be putting in good PAs and isn't pressing. That's an encouraging sign.
  6. I've been impressed by Lewis' defense as well. I don't see any reason that he can't stick there. Celestino has also held his own very well. He's learned from that early big league experience and we're seeing the benefits of that now. Hopefully Paddack's injury isn't too bad and just requires some rest. Kind of a brutal series, but they came out with a sweep. It definitely wasn't pretty, but I'll take it.
  7. Tonight was a good night to view some of the future of this club. Another nice outing from Winder, a first HR from Miranda and Lewis' first big league hit and some nice fielding to go with it. Overall, I'd say that was a pretty fun night for the young guys. Hopefully this is just the beginning.
  8. Welcome to The Show, Royce!  Hopefully you're here to stay!

  9. The FO definitely put all of their chips in on Jeffers to perform, so it's great to see that he is.
  10. I'm looking forward to getting an extended look at Kirilloff at 1B. Have you heard anything about his wrist? Is he still dealing with any lingering pain or stiffness it in?
  11. You know, when BSN+ was first announced I was adamantly opposed to such a concept and price point. The concept was ridiculous, I thought. But this is a game changer! I "can" still listen to every game on the radio or follow via Gamecast but get Laudner Street Justice and Laudner level services too? ? I can't contain my excitement! Where do I sign up?!?
  12. Not worried at all. Like others have mentioned, just let the kid be an on base machine. Sometimes that natural thing is the way to go. There's still value in that. And if he's not going to stick at SS, then find him a home. I he's plenty athletic that you can probably stick him anywhere and he'll be just fine, but it'd be nice to let him focus on one position.
  13. Congratulations to Dusty Baker on his 2,000th win as a manager!

    Quite the milestone!

  14. I do think that a pitcher will be the first called up, but I could see a scenario where Correa is healthy and Lewis is knocking down the door to be brought up and then Buxton gets hurt. I could see them calling Lewis up to fill in. I'm not sure that I'm necessarily excited about that, but if he's really beating down the door to be called up, I think it makes some sense.
  15. This is the type of team that I had hoped to see but didn't expect to see. Hopefully this continues because this was a fun series.
  16. and you were right to do so! That's totally fair! Self awareness lags behind what others already know!
  17. I've watched this gif so many times that I'm starting to question my own sanity.
  18. I think they go hand in hand. And they both take time to consistent at. And one will breed the other in the process. In other team sports, great chemistry will often beat superior talent. That said, I think that the only real answer is... Yes.
  19. I'd be very interested in an update at the 40 game mark. Especially if the starters continue their trend and offense continues to warm up. The quarter mark of the season is also a reasonable place to look at reasonable trends and what direction this team is really headed in.
  20. Nice write-up! Interesting in-depth look at how the FO identifies a player they think they can get value out of both on the acquisition front and on the field. I think you see that with Joe Ryan as well. It doesn't seem like they're doing anything drastic, just minor tweaks or pitch mixes to make a guy more effective.
