  1. Rumor has it that the Pirates have offered to exchange managers with the Twins in order to "win" the better odds for a top pick.
  2. I believe that the key constant in that equation is that the team has had the same owners during this period.
  3. ` If he was tipping pitches then the Twins coaches should have detected that.
  4. Great night for some of the young players, and I love beating the Yankees. Best win in a long time.
  5. Sometimes the children of a successful businessman turn out to be horrible at business. Which of these is better: 10,000 fans with average revenue of $30 per fan, or 30,000 fans with average revenue of $12 per fan? And I'm putting no value on the potential value of children becoming long-term fans. I would suggest a promotion where all seats in the expensive areas behind home plate and near the field are offered at 90% off for one night on a first come first serve basis, so that a lot more people can partake (at least once) in the splendor of sitting there. I hate seeing great seats go empty -- what a waste. There are some good ideas in this thread, but the fact that we have to post here suggests that the current generation of Pohlads are not good at operating a baseball franchise.
  6. I have that handing in my office, but I try to focus on the middle panel.
  7. Are the Twins hiring major league coaches?
  8. I hope that the next owner is someone who had to work hard & smart to build his or her fortune.
  9. I don't see anyone saying that. My point was that a young player could fail and be left with what seems like a fortune today, but might not last until he dies 70 years from now. On AVERAGE I suspect that an average schoolteacher is more financially secure over the long run than an average baseball draft pick. The difference is that the few players who have successful careers can make a fortune. I can see why someone who might make a fortune if his career takes off might also be worried about becoming a financially insecure "has been" if he washes out. In that context, changing his swing seems risky from his perspective. I appreciate his candor.
  10. Pro sports players need to make their money young so that they have enough for a lifetime. If all goes well (and considering his injury history), Lewis might make it to age 35. If he loses his swing, he could be washed up in 2 years. After paying taxes, Boras and living expenses Lewis might now have around $4 million of assets, but that might have to last him for 70+ years, unless he proves good at some other vocation. He needs to earn a lot more to guarantee lifelong prosperity. I feel sympathy for the young players who did not get big signing bonuses, especially the ones who skipped college. I wonder how they feel when they wash up and college scholarships are not available to them.
  11. If I was trying to sell the team I would focus on increasing revenues not cutting expenses. Trading the top two pitchers does not seem wise. How many more seats will go empty next year if they trade these popular players? If we factor in reduced attendance, how much would they really save?
  12. It seems to me that this is more a matter of seeing a potential silver lining than cheering for losses. I still root for wins, but after a loss I console myself with hopes of a better draft pick. Is it OK to cheer for Rocco to not miss any time due to illness? So long as Rocco is in the clubhouse I expect that the losses will take care of themselves. 🙂 Also, it seems to me that this is a good time to preview the young prospects, knowing that this might increase the losses during the balance of a lost season. Ideally, this will occur in games against teams that are out of contention so that it does not affect the playoff races.
  13. I have little faith in the Twins' ability to develop top picks into star players and to keep them healthy.
  14. After yesterday's performance I would prefer Gasper.
  15. It seems to me that the Twins need to do a better job teaching fundamentals in the minor leagues and, as needed, for the major leaguers. Bad baserunning decisions suggest poor coaching.
  16. I loved the velocity and the movement. If he can improve his command I think he can be a great pitcher. Maybe he had some yips. I hope he gets more starts.
  17. Great idea! I would pay an extra dollar for every pihranna they include on the tank, and an extra $100 if they use a very large tank with a starving great white shark.
  18. They won't "catch" the White Sox or the Rockies, but I think they have a shot at the Pirates.
  19. I wish that there was some way to force at least one Pohlad to attend every home game to share in the humiliation. At least the Twins are improving their chances of a top pick in next year's draft, which they may or may not bungle.
  20. I agree, but would also like a manager who inspires players to give 110% effort, like taking late night batting practice, as well as an organizational culture that preaches and rewards hard work and fundamentals. My sense is that the Twins' have not adequately emphasized working hard to play top level defense and in my mind that is one symptom of a culture of apathy.
