If they roster him for the ALDS, whether he starts game one may depend on who the Yankees starting pitcher is. If its Tanaka for game one and Arraez is available, I'd say Arraez will start. If its Paxton/Happ, wouldn't be surprised to see Arraez sit and be available off the bench. Arraez slashes .355/.399/.488 vs righties as opposed to .274/.398/.298 vs lefties.
If they plan on having 2 traditional starters (Berrios/Odorizzi), bullpenning 2 starts, Berrios/Odorizzi for a 2nd start for game 5. I'd rather have Smeltzer instead of one of Perez/Gibson. Probably would swap out Perez, just for lefty for a lefty's sake. Then plan on stacking Smeltzer on one of the bullpen games. But I'm just rambling.
All this. Plus I believe Graterol and possibly even Alcala are eligible for the Rule 5 draft this off season. So they're going to need to be added to the 40-man anyway. At the expense of who? I don't know. Stewart? Hildenburger if he's not in the cards in the future? Poppen?
This. Cave is a marginal player scratching and clawing for playing time and his future beyond 2019. Exhibit A for "it's not over, until its over": https://www.espn.com/mlb/game?gameId=350710109
I'd imagine that most of those games will be day games as well. Which is nice. I'd venture to guess that 2-3 of those first 6 will be day games. I hate those late night west coast games as well. Sometimes wish I lived in the Mountain Time Zone
IF Dyson is right, the Twins have a decent 7th-8th-9th bullpen with Dyson, Romo and Rogers. Collectively, they won't blow your hair back, but more times than not, they'll get the job done. At least that's what I want to believe.
The Romo deal was sort of unexpected for the timing of it. I'd expect the same from any deal made today. That said, getting pretty anxious here with 75 mins to go.
I don't think its a question of who has more coveted prospects. Both organizations have plenty. I think its more of a question of who's willing to part with said prospects. 2-3 pitchers today please. Preferrably more of a priority on the bullpen.
