  1. I honestly do not think that the team as it is currently constructed is that far away.* They lost 15 via walkoff, so I think shoring up the bullpen could go a long way in getting even closer.** I'd start with Joe Kelly, Andrew Miller on the cheap, and Familia/Herrera.*** I'd also shoot for Pearce as a placeholder at 1st, and LeMahieu/Jed Lowrie to plug in at 2nd. *This is entirely dependent on Buxton and Sano coming back as the 2017 version of themselves, not the 2018. **I don't know what is giving me this rosy outlook. I should probably get my head checked. ***This is video game wishing/spending ****Is it March 28th yet?
  2. I'm not saying you're wrong. What I was trying to say was spend the money on someone(s) not named Machado. I didn't convey that well.
  3. Machado is tempting. Heck of a talent. Don't really like him as a person. And think the Twins would be wise to spend his $30+ million per year on 2-4 different players. Wonder if Machado is kinda like a Pierzynski type. Where you like him when he's on your team, but loathe him when he's not. Oriole fans may have more of a insight on that.
  4. If they had parted amicably after last season, I'd say make a play for Dougie Baseball. Managed Buxton and Sano in the minors I believe. Doubt he'd come here now. But I've been calling for him since Gardy was fired.
  5. I'm going to miss Joe Mauer. Glad I was there to witness it first hand on Sunday. In regards to his HOF consideration. I think that he is at minimum worthy of consideration. Just his 9+ seasons as a catcher alone, he is worthy. 1st ballot does he get in? I don't think he will, and he won't. JAWS has him ranked as the 7th best catcher of all time. He is only 1 of 10 players to play at least half of his games as a backstop to collect 2,000 hits. He's literally at 50%, but still. And of those 10, 6 are Hall of Famers (Ivan Rodriguez, Carlton Fisk, Yogi Berra, Mike Piazza, Gary Carter and Johnny Bench). I've never understood the argument that he hamstrung the Twins with his contract, or blamed him for signing the thing. This is my long way of saying that Joe Mauer is the best pure Twins hitter I have seen in my 32 years and I don't think I'll see a better one in my lifetime. That makes me sad to type and I wish I had appreciated him more when I could.
  6. I selfishly am hoping he returns for at least one more year. I fell this may be a "don't know what you got, 'til it's gone situation". Don't feel I've fully appreciated Joe Mauer's career until very recently. I was always more of a Morneau, Span, Johan, Thome kind of fan. Joe was just always...there. Steady. Not flashy. Taking walks. Hitting doubles instead of dingers. My gut is telling me this is it. Whenever it happens, I will be sad.
  7. The silver lining of this being the last road trip is that they can't get walked off anymore. What are they up to now, 15 walk off losses? It's the little things.
  8. Always https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdMJrxCldzg
  9. He plays for the Clearwater Thrashers of the Philadelphia Phillies organization. His name is Mickey Moniak. Don't think he's in the plans for the Twins quite yet as he's not in the Twins' organization. Royce Lewis was drafted in 2017.
  10. Much like in the show Parks and Recreation, somebody needs to be the Jerry. Somebody on the roster needs to be Belisle. Poor Hildy drew the short straw.
  11. Saw Dozier's first career home run on 5/13/2012 at Target Field. Mothers Day that year in his 7th career game. My parents were with me, as was my now wife. I've seen many of his games since, several stick out. 2 walkoff home runs in a week in 2015, walkoff grand slam this year, and too many to count last year and 2016. It's gonna be weird without #2 playing 2nd.
  12. Total agreement. Like I said, I don't think they should trade him. Nor do I think they will. But I'm also in the camp (probably alone) to wait and sell anybody until after the non-waiver deadline. There is too many games left with Cleveland in August. I need to stop letting hope creep in.
  13. Think he had a thumb/wrist issue somewhere around that time frame as well.
  14. Sell high I would assume. Not that I'm advocating for it, but it's probably the thought process.
  15. Feels premature. The numbers look good, but do they mean anything? I guess I was resigned to maybe seeing both Buxton and Sano in September, but no sooner. Did not expect to see either of them at all until 2019.
  16. He's entered or is entering Rondell White territory. As with most of the lineup outside of the Ed's, they seem to be sleepwalking through the season. Which is a shame, as the pitching has been much improved.
