  1. It is a big blow. It will also mean a lot more time for Dyson and Orlando in the outfield, so the Royals are still going to have one hell of an outfield defense. I see a lot of their games being decided by one or two runs in the next two months.
  2. Was this all acquired from Kwik Trip and their creepy butcher guy? http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/tUv1ddWKTEk/0.jpg (Fun fact: The last type of meat he offers is really human meat).
  3. I like the idea. The team option is nice too. Having a nice reliable pitcher for the 8th is necessary if the Twins actual expect to compete in the post season, rather than just get there.
  4. 10 out of 10 for accuracy to style. 5 out 10 for appropriateness of style.
  5. I can't believe that anyone is yelling that.
  6. Because he wasn't fast enough this time.
  7. Agreed. It doesn't really make sense in the MLB. It's one of those rules that should be reserved for highschool level or below.
  8. 0-10 with runners in scoring position.
  9. poop x 3. Helped you out there, Chief.
  10. The Twins have had a base runner on 3rd in every inning so far. It's just a matter of time before one gets home.
  11. Also, Trevor May seems to have made a video to go with those pictures. http://m.twins.mlb.com/min/video/topic/75206220/v213312783/what-are-you-waiting-for-votedozier/?affiliateId=clubMEGAMENU
  12. This is probably the funniest thing I've seen today.
  13. Late to the game, but I have to vote Ruth as well. Nate Silver wrote a great article about this that was published in the book Baseball Between the Numbers: Why Everything You Know About the Game Is Wrong. It's the first article in the book and it's a fantastic one. It's actually a collection of Baseball Prospectus articles. In that case, he tries to normalize all the stats by using park factors and factoring in the talent of the league as a whole at the time. It's a great read, but a little numbers heavy.
  14. The Reds will be sellers too. They aren't catching St. Louis and they have few expiring contracts that they could use to load up the farm system. I think the White Sox should be selling as well. They'll be selling some pieces, but I don't think they'll tear everything down and start over. The Rays have been on a steady decline for the last month or so. I don't see them as huge sellers though. With the new wild card system, it really has made teams looks at being buys and sellers in the same year. There isn't too many teams willing to do a full tear down, because they get close enough to the playoffs. It makes for some interesting discussions/trades.
  15. I agree. There's also the possibility that they have seen a few guys that they really like but aren't eligible to sign next's year's signing period, so they want to ensure they have the ability to sign some next year. There are a lot of factors that are going into whether or not to go way over the bonus pool, and I'm not sure that we'll ever know everything that went into these decisions. I agree that it's not really Ryan's style to go all out like that though. Javier sounds like he could be a very exciting prospect though. I'm excited to see him develop.
  16. It's true. You have to go big to get those guys, but they signed when the rules were different as well, which made it a lot easier for teams to go really big on international prospects. I think they should go big too, but what if there was really only the one guy (Javier) that they really liked this year? (I find it hard to believe that he's the only guy, though). But to give one guy your entire bonus pool means they must have really liked what they have seen in this kid. So, I think the Twins are going big in a way this year. I'm sure the Cubs, Dodgers, Giants and other teams are going to get penalized in the new CBA for going over their pool this year. I can't see there being an agreement among all the other teams that would allow teams going over their limit this signing period to not face any penalty at all.
  17. Yes... No... I don't know. I do know that this is a very bad scenario.
  18. Well, that's also a fair assessment. I guess I should have said that it wasn't completely his fault today. He did walk guys, which was on him. I didn't see the wild pitch, but I have a feeling it was something that a more competent catcher would have stopped. The throwing error trying to throw out a running advancing to the next base on a walk... that's on Herrmann. Either way, if a pitcher goes 6.1 innings and only gives up 2 runs, that's a decent game. Especially when it comes with 6 strike outs as well. I agree with you on this one too, Chief. This loss belongs to the offense.
