  1. How about another dark horse candidate: Tyler Duffey.
  2. Thanks for posting this. You weren't kidding. That is a fun read.
  3. To hell with sample sizes!
  4. Look at all those guys that have trademarked their names. They probably have a good mind for business, or decent business managers at the very least.

  6. Sickels posted a great article about Sano a few days ago as well. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2015/8/22/9189335/miguel-sano-superstar And good job, Brock. Good talking points for the day.
  7. Ok. One more Russia joke for me, and I might have to be done.
  8. Maybe in Russia, water has sworn off you!
  9. You're right. You never did call for a change in draft strategy, so we shouldn't imply that you were doing that. I'd say though, that it is probably just as likely that Sano could be hurt next year rather that a few years from now Gordon might be up. Sure, Sano will be older, but he still should be pretty much in his athletic prime, so I don't think there is a huge risk either way. Would I like to have Turner right now? Possibly. It would help out with the current SS situation. Would I rather have Turner than Gordon? I don't know about that. Who knows, Gordon might really click and end up on the super fast track to the majors. There are just so many unknowns.
  10. In mother Russia, baseball plays you!!! http://www.getbranson.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/yakov.jpg
  11. If Sano and Buxton turn out to be the players everyone thinks they will be, I would hope that the Twins would be getting them to sign an extension. If Gordon is up by 2018, Sano and Buxton should still be under team control and with the team anyway. You're right. I'd like to see Gordon have productive years with the big league club while Sano and Buxton are with the team. I'd also rather have a constant flow of good players on the team, even if some of them leave for free agency as well. It's a tough call to make, but I feel like drafting the best player available is generally the best call.
  12. Turner looks like he could possibly provide some value right now, giving the assumption that he would have developed into the same player had he been in the Twins system the entire time. There's really no way to know that part for sure. Let's assume he would have developed into the same player. He would probably be a nice piece at SS for the Twins right now. But I don't think you can judge the entire draft just because he made it to the big league team quickly. It could be that Gordon turns out to be a much better SS, possibly a better player overall. I don't think you can say the Twins picked the wrong player until we see how things turn out. It could end up being that Turner was the best player of the draft, which would mean that 11 other teams besides the Twins picked the wrong player, and San Diego screwed up by trading him to Washington. We'll just have to see how things play out.
  13. I think someone will sign next year for sure, and I think he will end up getting to 3000 hits. I hope he does. He's still good enough to get some at bats, and he hasn't been holding out for more money. I think he just wants to play baseball. As far as his Japanese fanbase, I can't comment on it for sure. But, I was in Japan in 2010 and Ichiro was all over the place. TV commercials, posters, etc. He was still a giant star over there. He was still playing pretty well at that point though. There was even a point when I was asked if I knew any Japanese sports stars by some school children. When I said "Ichiro" they all got incredibly excited. These kids were definitely not old enough to remember seeing him play in Japan. I don't know if he still draws the TV ratings from Japan that he once did, but I have a feeling that he's still a big name there.
  14. I don't know what I said about the Liriano trade when it happened. I don't think I want to look. It may have been something similar. But the fact is, even if Escobar is mainly a utility guy for the rest of his stay with the Twins, I'd say we got the better end of that deal. I think it should be pretty obvious to most people that Escobar should be the starting SS for the rest of the season. He should have been starting at SS for a while before, like other have said. I just look forward to seeing him there the rest of the year.
  15. I think it's really hard to determine if some of the moves that Cherington made were all his idea, doing what owner John Henry told him to do, or some combination. I get the sense that ownership had some involvement with some contracts, but he went along with it. I think a good GM has to be able to talk ownership out of bad personnel decisions some times. There might be some owners that no one could convince to change their minds. Maybe John Henry is one of those guys. I do know that the Red Sox are considered to have a great farm system, and that Cherington also signed some bad contracts. Cherington is also responsible for getting rid of some bad contracts that were on the books that were not his doing. I think he could end up being a good GM in the future. I don't know if he is one now though.
  16. I couldn't agree more. Ruben Amaro Jr is another guy that I wouldn't want in charge of my team. He's done alright getting rid of players this year, but he waited several years too long to do that, and signed some bad contracts.
  17. Sure we did. We let the Blue Jays beat us 4 times. We only let the Yankees beat of three times.
  18. Chasen. You know, like "Chasen some tail, bro!"
  19. They already said day to day for Hicks. They should just call up Buxton, but if they don't want to put Hicks on the DL, I don't know who they'll move off of the roster. I predict that they won't do anything for a few days. Not that I agree with that approach.
  20. I picked the wrong time to start listening to this game. Ugh.
  21. I wonder if people would be this disgruntled right now if the Twins had been consistently playing at their current winning percentage, rather than the big swings we've seen. As of today, the Twins have a winning percentage of .496, which would be good for 80-81 wins over the whole season. If they had been consistently playing at this clip, would there be so much animosity towards the FO right now, or would people be happier because they were on pace to win 10-11 more games this season?
  22. The problem with the whole idea of "making a serious effort to make this a playoff team" idea is that we, as fans, do not get to hear about all the trades that didn't go through. We assume that just because Jepsen was the only trade that happened, that this was the only one that TR was discussing. I find that part hard to believe. So, you really can't say that TR didn't try to make the team better because we don't know. The fact that more didn't happen just means that TR or the other GM didn't find the right combination of players that they felt was appropriate (perceived) value for both teams.
  23. Yup. I was wrong about the "why" part. The getting a 4th option part isn't super straight forward. Something about how he wouldn't finish his 5th year of professional service by the time his 3 options years are done. I'll take the 50% of being right on this one and try to learn the reason behind the 4th option in my spare time. Thanks for clearing that up, Seth.
  24. I think he gets 4 option years because he was signed as a 16 year-old.
