  1. I have to admit that I also enjoy the all-star game. It's fun. I also think it should be a pure exhibition. I understand why the MLB made it determine home field advantage, but I don't think most players really care. Especially those all-stars from teams that are not likely to be on a team that makes it to the world series. I also like that fans get to vote for players to be on that team, and that has been a part of the game for a while. I don't fault the MLB for trying to make this accessible to more fans that can't make it to a MLB game to fill out a paper ballot, but clearly the implementation of this new system is flawed. There are better ways that they could implement this, and I have a feeling that this will get solved.
  2. This kind of flew under the radar, but Jordan Schafer has been released. Reported here: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/06/twins-release-jordan-schafer.html and here:
  3. I have tickets for that game too! I definitely wouldn't mind being there for Sano's debut.
  4. Happy bday, Bark. May you have many more years of entertaining us with amazing photoshop work.
  5. This is my take on the whole thing: 1. The strike zone was a mess all game. Molly was barking at Ripperger during the first inning. 2. This isn't the first time managers have complained about Ripperger's strike zone. He's got a reputation of not being very good at calling balls and strikes. Here's an article about Ron Roenicke complaining about Ripperger's strike zone last year: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/272986521.html It's a pretty good rant. 3. I don't think Torii got thrown out on purpose or to send a message. I think he was frustrated because they were about to get swept and he got called out on an obvious ball. Torii even said he felt it was a revenge call for complaining about a previous pitch. Torii seems to be a pretty emotional guy, and it's not the first time Torii has lost it on the field. This was a case of being fed up and letting a bad strike caller know that he messed up. That's it. Torii kept yelling and throwing his jersey because he was straight up mad at the guy, not because he was trying to set an example for the young guys.
  6. 100% correct. It is $100k limit. Anything over that limit is counted against the draft pool money.
  7. Well, if you look at that video of 8th rounder Kolten Kendrick taking batting practice and hitting balls into/over trees in the outfield, you'll understand why the Twins drafted that guy. The other 1B, well everyone explained those guys already. You never know though. Some of these guys might turn out to be something.
  8. You know that pitch is illegal now, right? But, seriously, you can't have 13 pitchers on your roster without some bodies. Duensing fills that requirement. And he's a lefty. Other than that... I have nothing.
  9. My guess is that they had an idea of how much it would take to sign Kendrick before they picked him. He's committed to Southeast Louisiana. If he were committed to a college with a little higher profile, I might be a little more concerned. I have a feeling the Twins will be able to sign him.
  10. Seems like left handed power has been the theme of the draft today.
  11. Marlins just took Travis Neubeck. Not notable except for his hometown of Hugo, MN. So that's kind of fun for a local kid.
  12. All I can say is that the ASG was fun to be at last year. The Home Run derby was probably more fun, but that also had a lot to do with the copious amounts of beer that was consumed before/during the event. The rain delay helped with that. As far as this goes, I don't think most of those players deserve to be at the ASG, if the rosters were actually constructed on who are the best players at the position. But, it is also based on fan participation, so if you don't like it, start voting.
  13. It sure does. Coincidentally, the Tigers losing seven in a row makes me happy.
  14. I assume the look on you face was something like this? http://evomo.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Walt-Kowalski.jpg
  15. WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!! HUNTER WITH THE DINGER!
  16. I can't believe the Red Sox were willing to give this guy a contract. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/68/Steven_Wright_1994.jpg
  17. Well, still over half the game to go, right? There's still time.
  18. Seeing these two together just reminded me of Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros.
  19. Credit should go to Jimmer for that one.
  20. I'd buy it too. And Moon Man is delicious. Nothing wrong with a little Spotted Cow, either.
  21. I would think that Kepler might be an alternative to Walker in this case. As much as I want to see Walker up with the big league team and smashing homers, I can't see it happening. You make some good points though. I think with the not being on the 40 man, and the fact that he strikes out too much will probably prevent this from happening. Good outside the box thinking though. He wouldn't have to play only DH. He could spell Torii in RF some times too.
  22. I bet New Glarus could make a that beer and it would sell really well.
