  1. I don't follow closely either tbh. I like catching Saints games in person and that's about it.
  2. I guess? Don't get me wrong, Idc enough to get worked up over the swap but McCusker seems like a AAAA player at best to me. If they want to get him ABs I'm fine with it, but I'd rather see Larnach moved in order to do so. I think we absolutely know what Trevor is at this point.
  3. Yep, who in AAA replaces him and gives you a better shot at winning games? Also, it's sink or swim at this point, and not just for Wallner.
  4. There's plenty of consternation about Correa too....
  5. You can probably cross Larnach off that list, at least in pencil. He's at best an average bat at a premium offensive position, he plays subpar defense, and he requires a RH handcuff. Wallner (with more power but probably worse defense) is a repeat performance next year away from being in a similar boat. Ideally you're not paying guys arbitration for replacement level production.
  6. Way too many fans will fixate on the check swing because it's easier than acknowledging that following that pitch 4 straight hitters reached base, one of whom (Ruiz) can't hit, and never had to even take a swing. That's called choking. This game wasn't stolen, the Twins gave it away.
  7. For sure. I didn't want to read too much into the 3rd person references but they stood out to me, it's almost like he bought too much stock into the early hype, much the same way fans did.
  8. Wasn't aware of the Royce quotes until reading this. Last year you could chalk it up to a young player experiencing failure for probably the first time in his life. There's probably some of that at play again this season. His quip about the team having a short leash with him is totally off-base though. He's been terrible for roughly a full season now and he's still getting MLB playing time...
  9. Kudos to you for still having your eye on the ALC title. That wagon has to be about empty by now.
  10. The sad part is that I can see that stat being ironically used as some sort of positive takeaway in a post game article.
  11. Smh, so teams like Sacramento, Miami, or Pittsburgh aren't making arb eligible for prospect swaps? Context matters. Results matter. If you're a fan of what Cleveland did the last few deadlines, if you like the way they look, and you want the Twins to emulate them then I've glad you've found some path to happiness with this directionless franchise we choose to follow.
  12. A 1 to 1 replacement is nearly the best possible outcome, and the odds of that are immensely small.
  13. I'm guessing almost every FO is following a process with a chance to work. Moving an arb eligible player for a prospect in and of itself isn't some genius transaction. The results do actually matter here, especially if we're going to point at Cleveland and say "be them," or argue that they've kept themselves afloat competitively with their moves over the last few deadlines. They just committed a year's worth of playing time in exchange for replacement level production, they had to turn around and trade for a broken SP the very next deadline, and they're still sinking playing time into an OF who is a negative WAR player. I don't want to be Cleveland.... If we want to say the jury is out because Manzardo hasn't had enough time, ok, but I'll say it again, Cleveland isn't a team I'm interested in emulating. If it's just about the constant offloading of arb eligible talent for prospects that seems like a zero sum game at best, unless you're very consistently selling poison pills.
  14. Buxton signed long term. Garver was moved, Idk if that was W though. They hung onto Dozier for too long. Maybe Kepler last year but selling during the 2023 deadline would've been questionable. Ervin Santana if hindsight is allowed. The fact that it's difficult to come up with names kinda says it all no? There hasn't been much for young, arb eligible talent, or established and still contributing talent for this club to consider selling.
  15. I'm not pounding the table for the Twins to hang onto expiring deals. In fact it's the opposite, I'd love to see them at least seriously try to pair actual value with what's expiring and shake things up. Idk if I necessarily want them dealing SP with 2 years of arbitration left a la Civale, but that's an entirely different discussion. My opposition is holding up Cleveland's last few deadlines as some sort of blueprint. Their 2024 pickups were, and have been, atrocious. To date (I'll die on this hill) they've gotten nothing from 2023 either. Like I said before, Idk why we're putting them on a pedestal. Bad teams can and do sell soon to be "expensive," or expiring contracts too.
  16. No, I'm closing the book on the idea that Kyle Manzardo, Lane Thomas, and Alex Cobb helped keep afloat Cleveland's chances at competing the last few seasons. It's likely more semantics than rigidity. If you want to rebuild I'm not necessarily opposed, but if you're investing years into your return before you can hope to see any type of production that's cashing out IMO.
  17. I'd prefer they deal some of their own "big time," players but that's likely a pipe dream. You have more faith that a France and/or Kiersey won't be replaced with another France and/or Kiersey acquired in some low wattage swap or the waiver wire, but roll away, I have zero attachment to 95% of the roster.
  18. If the idea is to stay competitive, keep the window open, yada yada, i.e. the premise of this article, then yeah, the gains do need to be rather immediate. Sinking years of (MLB or MiLB) investment into players hoping to get passable MLB performance is what rebuilding teams do. If Manzardo never becomes anything more than a plodding 1B who hits the occasional HR, yep, it's a bad trade, because not only did you fail to capitalize on Civale's value at the time, but you've also continued to give away valuable playing time to Manzardo. Saying Manzardo has done nothing to help Cleveland the last 2 seasons isn't the same as closing the book on his career. Joe Ryan is a terrible example here. Not only was he immediately inserted into the rotation post trade, he was, ya know, actually pretty good for an entire season+ before "settling," in 2023. Even that season, relative to his peers, Ryan was an average pitcher. Manzardo has been a bottom tier 1B since he came up.
  19. So factor in that ownership (and organizational) malpractice has destroyed public sentiment and the subsequent revenue standing (if we're actually going to believe the numbers) is reflective of that fact. This is a mid market team with one of the wealthiest ownership groups in baseball but anytime the topic of winning comes up we're supposed to act like they're a poverty franchise...
  20. Is the premise of this article not about retooling over cashing in/out? How does plugging in a replacement level 1B for the last 2 seasons count as retooling?
  21. Concur, which is why I see moving fringe and/or expiring pieces are rearranging deck chairs.
  22. Sure, his .1 WAR (yes that's real) in basically a full season at 1B will fit right in.
  23. Sure, process can sometimes outweigh results. I wouldn't punt on a season just to acquire a prospect like Manzardo but YMMV. Their deadlines have been eerily similar to the Twins, i.e. spare parts or a lot of nothing. Idk why we're putting their recent deadlines on a pedestal.
  24. Yeah, Cleveland did essentially tank their 2023 season. They've gotten absolutely nothing from Manzardo, and their 2024 acquisitions were a net negative. I guess we're going to celebrate the fact that they didn't try compete in a very winnable division in 2023 or add any type of impact talent at either of the two previous deadlines because things are going so well for them in 2025 right?
  25. Buying, selling, standing pat, it doesn't matter what this FO chooses to do, my point is that whichever direction they chose to go, external factors, i.e. what they perceive a team like Detroit to be now and into the future, shouldn't be part of the equation.
