  1. He struggled in the 2nd half last year. He struggled to start this season and he was getting blown up recently. Idk why anybody should be "embarrassed," for wanting SWR in AAA.
  2. Yeah I'm not usually too concerned with injury timeline stuff but the whole Royce saga this season feels like pretty gross mismanagement from both a health and performance standpoint.
  3. I don't think it's a collapse so much as this is pretty much who they are; an atrocious offensive club with decent (although injured) pitching. Did the Twins magically get another series scheduled with Baltimore? Kidding. Kinda.
  4. Not that I disagree with the overall point, but if it's the same leg I'd say there's a pretty good chance it wasn't close to healthy enough to be playing in the first place. When you have to tell somebody not to run out ground balls Idk why you're penciling them into the lineup, especially when they're very clearly struggling at the plate and in the field.
  5. "I’d love to see him get a little more time and provide a bit more utility. Let him start against lefties, give him some time at DH and slide Larnach to the outfield, or give France the day off at first base once in a while." Hard pass. Bride and 4 something OPS can collect all the cobwebs. The Twins are doing a terrible job of utilizing the roster spot, but giving Bride more playing time isn't the solution.
  6. You're paying a premium either way if that type of player is the target. At that point you might as well pull the trigger at the deadline if you're remotely serious about winning postseason games.
  7. Cool, you can maybe squeeze more WAR out of some unnamed prospect over X number of seasons. That lacks an incredible amount of context if you're actually trying to measure "impact on winning." That accumulation of talent has to coalesce in a short window of time. Waiting for the stars to align (which is essentially what you're arguing for) is a great way to ensure mediocrity. Most prospects aren't long term assets.
  8. He's been pretty damn solid the last 2 seasons. I was down on his ability to stay healthy, but you can't deny he's been a key contributor to a rotation that has carried this team.
  9. Compare him to his peers. Bottom tier in terms of 1B slugging. Bottom tier in OBP, and FWIW Fangraphs has him as a bottom tier defender as well.
  10. So are we just going to ignore the fact that the Twins have one of the worst pitch framing duos in baseball?
  11. 28, 16, 15. Those are his IP each season, the last number being to date. No, he's not underappreciated in the least.
  12. Yeah, sadly I can believe that. There was at least one post about Alcala being a "bottom half of the bullpen weapon," in the article about trading Duran. I get that fans can (at times vastly) overrate their own guys but if you can't put Alcala into a game that's remotely competitive there's zero point in keeping him on the roster.
  13. They had lost 20 of 21 games coming into today...
  14. Single, walk, homer, double before he could record a single out. Tell me more about Alcala's "stuff."
  15. Yep, plus some outsized expectations magnifying the struggles.
  16. If you're reaching back 2 decades to find an example are you not proving the rule? The stretch that has them sitting over .500 also included 12 games against the dregs of the AL where they went 11-1. Above average offense from this current lineup? Yeah I think that's a stretch.
  17. Who was complaining about the starting pitching going into this season? I mean c'mon, the entire offseason was a Matthews/Festa hype train. The bullpen? Again, show me the posts en masse calling for change anywhere other than the fringes. The concern was a lineup that was injured and/or just plain bad. They added more vets hoping for a bounce back season (mixed results) rolled the dice on younger guys like Miranda and Julien sticking (poor results) and crossed their fingers on the health (mostly poor results) of expected major contributors. Have those concerns been quashed? Nope. If you're taking a victory lap at the very least don't fabricate the argument you're gloating over.
  18. "Bride has impressed with Minnesota." What? He has been the definition of replacement level for the Twins. Both he and Keirsey are a wasted roster spot. Keirsey's "strengths," at least are things this club needs; defense and the ability to take an extra base. If I have to choose between two bad players I guess give me Kiersey.
  19. Idk if the shift in Buxton's handling the last few years is applicable here, but if the idea is that Royce dogging it on the bases prevents another injury it's beyond time to rethink that. Move at full speed, at all times, until you can't, or if you're currently unable to do that, then 100% go back on the IL. This half in half out stuff isn't working.
  20. Idk you can watch that attempt to get back to 2B and think his best shot at getting there was to pull up and toe tap his way to the bag. There's no world in which Lewis actually pivoting and making an effort to dive back somehow makes him slower. Misreading a ball in play isn't what's being questioned. Yeah, mistakes happen, whatever. FWIW Lewis's lack of game time over the last 4 years doesn't matter. That play happens at all levels of baseball, and he has played plenty of ball in his life. It was a tough read and he got caught. The issue is giving up outs on the bases. This team, and Lewis as an individual, aren't good enough to do that. Honestly, nobody really is.
  21. The mental gymnastics here are bordering on Olympic level.
  22. Does locking Ty France into 1B create this WAR surplus? The results thus far are a resounding no.
