  1. I heard Berrios is still trying to get stretched out from that WBC run..... Plus he abandoned his teammates during ST and he clearly doesn't care about the organization.... So be happy that Tepesch and his veteran leadership are joining the team.
  2. If they're given credit for Santana and Santiago so far are they not then responsible for Gibson and Mejia? The catching (at least defensively) isn't an area of concern right now but I would stop short of giving them that much credit for the start some of the pitchers have had.
  3. It doesn't prevent them from signing any FAs, and if they can't get anything meaningful for him at the deadline then I'm fine with that route. Meh, if he has a good first half they might be able to pry a decent pitching prospect away from some team. If there is one thing contending teams will overpay for it's pitching. Obviously he won't bring back any sort of top talent, but I would be fine with the Twins taking a gamble on a prospect in return for Santiago. I would hold off on an extension for sure as well. I wish I could say my feelings regarding deadline deals were more mixed if the team is around .500 but if they have an opportunity to move guys and bring in legitimate help for 18' and beyond then I'm likely to favor that. Also for the record I have zero faith in this teaming signing 2 significant FA pitchers this offseason. Even hoping for one might be a pipe dream...
  4. They certainly can, but the question is how much faith do you have that the Twins would dig that deep into the pocket books? Personally I would love to see him flipped at the deadline for an arm that they can control for 4-6 years on a rookie contract. They don't have to hold onto Hector, if they're willing to spend, which they would need to do to sign 2 pitchers, there will be other arms available as FAs this offseason.
  5. According to FSN pregame Hughes looks like his dominant 2014 self and Mauer is almost back to "vintage Joe," soooooo.....we've got that going for us which is nice.
  6. Buxton got a lot of love (deservedly so) for bucking the hitting approach the Twins were pushing on him and going back to what he was comfortable with and what made him successful. I can't get too worked up if Gibson trusts himself more in this situation. It clearly isn't working but I have just as much faith in Gibson righting himself as I do in the Twins turning him around; i.e., none.
  7. Idk which is more annoying; the Royals still wearing those WS uniforms or watching Gibson "pitch."
  8. Wow...just read about it. RIP Russillo & Kanell podcast for me.
  9. In fairness I expected more of these games by this point in the season....
  10. Hard to believe this team actually won the first two games of this series....yeesh
  11. http://imageserve.babycenter.com/2/000/309/VzhvFsp6DrMcUrr7PviZm6kMIhUmNzgL_lg.jpg No need to lock this up. I'm enjoying almost every post...
  12. If you do then Idk why you're so shocked by the 60-70% falling within the average distribution. So first it was an issue with defining mediocrity. Now that that is finally settled the problem is how many players fit the definition? Are you actually reading my posts or are you just trying to argue? Honestly. If you read them at all you would see I wasn't in favor of the signing because he was guaranteed a rotation spot. If they signed a guy to a minor league contract or a low cost MLB deal they were less likely to hold onto that mediocrity. I don't know how to make that more clear for you. I wasn't' high on Gibson or Hughes either but they were rotation locks as Santiago would be upon signing. There absolutely were a lot of question marks surrounding the pitching and Santiago was one of them so no, it wasn't a warm welcome on my end. You were higher on Santiago than I was. The End.
  13. Please no. I would much rather they pull the plug at the point when he can't be effective rather than wait for a total implosion. I'm more on board with your initial 3-5 prediction, and I would lean towards 3 given I have zero faith in him. He's the 3rd starter by default and isn't going anywhere for a least a few starts but my god watching him pitch is like walking through a mine field; you're on edge the whole time and expect disaster with every move.
  14. In terms of pinch hitting no, but guys on the bench see a significant amount of playing time in both leagues. I'm glad they have another bat too. They had three bench guys; a capable utility IF, a backup catcher, and Danny Santana. If DanSan is your only OF option off the bench and Gimenez is getting a start at 1B you're hamstrung.
  15. Batters get hit...it happens and almost always it isn't purposeful. Such is the nature of being a hitter. Its unfortunate that Jones was hit in the face but those freak plays do happen. When you say you can see why they don't want the Twins to do that again you make it sound like Haley was aiming for his face. I agree with a lot of the above statements. If the Tigers are so incensed by the HBP then why not go after Haley. I'm not saying that is the right move either but throwing at a player who had nothing to do with the incident is a chicken s**t move IMO. Oh and the cherry on top is the notion that Sano is somehow to blame for the "escalation," because he was upset after being thrown at and and shoved. What a joke...
  16. So a Twins hitter ACCIDENTALLY hits a Tigers batter in the face. Now Sano is supposed to "just accept," that he will have a 90+ mph fastball chucked at him? Oh and he is also the bad guy for apparently escalating the situation? C'mon....
  17. The definition of the word is "average" I had no idea saying that would be so "controversial." If its an honest misunderstanding thats fine. Its the reason I pressed for them to look up the meaning of the word. It took me 10 seconds to copy, paste, and post that definition so it certainly was accessible. The fact that there is apparently still an argument at this point stems from a willingness to misconstrue the meaning of mediocre. I think its pretty obvious I'm annoyed by this. Yeah, I clearly think he is mediocre as well. It isn't a compliment and it isn't an insult, the descriptor is fairly self explanatory.
  18. I would strongly encourage you to check out a bell curve and take a look at the distributions. That should answer your questions regarding percentile ranges. Again, the definition of mediocre does not have ONE THING to do with any points I had previously made. It has absolutely no bearing on the discussion, so if your goal was to distract by arguing semantics then congratulations.
  19. me·di·o·cre ˌmēdēˈōkər/ adjective of only moderate quality; not very good. "a mediocre actor" synonyms: ordinary, average, middling, middle-of-the-road, uninspired, undistinguished, indifferent, unexceptional, unexciting, unremarkable, run-of-the-mill, pedestrian, prosaic, lackluster, forgettable, amateur, amateurish; More
  20. Why don't google "mediocre definition" then look down at the synonyms....second one listed I believe Synonym = exactly or nearly the same Sorry....
  21. Holy hell....why don't you guys start another thread and you can argue for days about what defines mediocrity and the "preciseness," of synonyms. Seriously...that s**t has nothing to do with anything being discussed.
  22. Google it and tell me they aren't synonyms....
  23. Mediocre means average. If you want to say Ricky is a below average starter I don't care. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with any of the conversation regarding resigning Hector.
