  1. Here's a little post-game dance music : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBXAzVN7PYg
  2. I just got home. Did I miss anything?
  3. That depends on who your starter is and how many pitches he has thrown. If it's an elite starter and under 100 pitcher, he gets another inning. If it's Pelfrey and he's close to 100, he doesn't.
  4. Was told today by the doc that I need to lose weight. I have to tell her she was wrong - I have 36 lbs. worth of eating to do.
  5. I think she voted for it before she was against it.
  6. Just the standard .05% that any given pitcher's arm falls off after any given game. Not much better than that, though. I guess you could add another .45% chance that the Twins find someone to give them something of value for him. Call it .5%.
  7. Definitely more blessing than disguise. My first thought was surgery is a pretty extreme measure for a fake DL to clear space in the rotation.
  8. I've got to say this site is pretty darned good on it's own, not just "compared to that ..."
  9. So are pinto beans actually pintos? If so, are they the horse or the car? If they are the car, that would explain the explosions out the rear end that they cause, Sorry I missed the game thread, but when the oldest kid is out of the house and #2 thru 5 are at camp, there is no one left to keep # 6 occupied except Mom and Dad. (Clean kitchen ... play with 10 yr old - easy choice). (For my wife the choice was "let him entertain 10-yr-old" or "let that ogre destroy my kitchen by trying to clean it" - easy choice for her too.)
  10. Is there supposed to be a limit on how many times you can vote in a day? I voted until I was sure I had reached 35 (the limit from the regular voting), then I kept voting, then I started counting until I reached 35, then I kept voting until the game was over (another 10 minutes), then I voted some more because Dozier hit the walk-off. My guess is I voted 200 times tonight, and they all to register (except the 3 or 4 times I mis-typed verification code.) The "Your last vote was at..." time kept updating, so I think it was working.
  11. I don't think anyone is saying it's a fluke - his production has been pretty consistent for several years over several levels. It's just that his type of production in the minors doesn't normally lead to major league success. I did find one comp who turned out to be pretty good (until he hurt his hip.) He didn't spend much time in the minors, more because of who he was than because of his development, but he struck out more than 33% of the time in his 236 minor league PAs, and continued to strike out a ton while he finally became an outstanding MLB player by learning on the job. I'm sure Bo Jackson was a better athlete than ABW, but by all reports Walker is very athletic. The Kingman comp (post 54) is interesting, but his K rate was lower than 25% in the minors, he went straight from college to AA (he was the top overall pick in the draft), he only stayed in the minors for 682 PAs, and he was in the majors to stay by August of his age 22 season. With this comp, ABW is Kingman lite, at best. There is a possibility Walker will have a successful MLB career, but those K rates should really put a damper on expectations. despite current production levels, the odds area against him.
  12. Combined last 10 games (to the best of my ability): .419/.493/.718; OPS 1.211
  13. And I thought all we had was a spoon. http://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/01/05/28/c7/the-famous-spoon-bridge.jpg
  14. Good choice. I like him because of a local connection - he went to Western Oklahoma State College, which is about a 10 minute walk from my house. I will add that I'm not particularly happy with WOSC right now, although it's probably more my son's fault. Their reputation is local players aren't welcome, so my son is going half-way across the state because he wanted nothing to do with them. I'm sure some of it is he wanted to get out of the house, but I might only see him play when he has a road game a 10 minute walk from my house.
  15. I think that says more about the one list that had him #1 and about the prospects the Twins had a the time than it says about Blackburn. I did find this on Gleeman's site - a May 2013 article "Revisiting the best Twins prospects of the 2000s" I disagreed so much with Baseball America ranking Nick Blackburn as the Twins' top prospect in 2008 that I made a bet with the magazine's editor, John Manuel, that Blackburn wouldn't get 70 career wins. I'm feeling pretty safe about the bet now with Blackburn stuck on 43 wins and his career at a crossroads, although in retrospect he did turn out better than I expected even if 819 innings of a 4.85 ERA is nothing special.
  16. Even if he's on a fast track, he's too far away for me to want him to be next.
  17. The only thing better than the Twins winning 13-2 is listening to Hawk while they are doing it. He's as annoying as can be when they are winning, or even when the game is close, but it's fun to hear his tone when they are getting blown out.
  18. The song covered it: Bob: ... I think there’s something wrong with your logic, Larry... Larry: Well Bob, the lady at the zoo said it, and who am I to tell her that she’s wrong? If there’s a tail, it’s a monkey. No tail; ape. It’s easy! Bob: But Larry... a kite has a tail! Larry: Then it’s a monkey Bob: A comet has a tail! Larry: It’s a monkey Bob: A bubble doesn’t have a... Larry: Then it’s not a monkey, If it doesn’t have a tail It’s not a monkey... Bob: It’s an ape? Larry: Exactly! I knew you’d catch on! Bob: Larry, we might need to talk about this. I don’t think the lady at the zoo meant...
  19. If it doesn't have a tail it's not a monkey, it's an ape. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--szrOHtR6U (Since you were talking about inane posts)
  20. No mention of throwing in Duensing, so it's hard to tell.
  21. One of my favorite headlines was in Baseball Weekly after he was the PTBNL in the Hollins trade and then announced the name preference: "Player Really to be Named Later"
  22. I always like reading game threads after I know he outcome. I know, one HR doesn't offset all of the scuffling, but it probably buys him a bit more time
  23. The Twins stuck with Santana in 2000 mainly because he was a Rule 5 guy and they wanted to keep him. If they could have optioned him, I'm sure they would have. I didn't go back and review the numbers, but there's not much in common style-wise. Meyer is 6'9" (vs. 6'0"), is right-handed, throws much harder than Santana did, and has a slider as his #2 pitch. (Santana had possibly the best change-up of all time, although I'm not sure if he learned it before or after 2000.) It's not a very good comp. That said, the long-relief role can be useful for pitchers of different styles, and it can be used effectively as an evaluation tool and, hopefully, as a springboard to bigger things.
  24. I don't think anyone wants the goal to be for him to become a long reliever, but those innings can be valuable for development. Long relievers still face major league hitters, and someone has to throw those innings. It might as well be someone you are preparing for a bigger role.
