  1. They still have that courtesy runner rule in HS baseball (for the pitcher and catcher.)
  2. I wouldn't mind the Twins playing the Brewers every year, but that's because they usually aren't very good, not because of some rivalry between the teams.
  3. I knew someone around here would have the answers.
  4. I was going to look for that link and comment "at least they aren't doing this." Thank you for posting it for me, so all I had to do was add my comment. With a runner placed on 2B, how often would the team's first move be to use the new intentional walk rule to put the force in order? Maybe they can look into adding the DP/Flex rule, too. http://qcofficials.com/Aces96/Rules/DpFlexRule.html
  5. There is almost no chance he's claimed. He would become a free agent and the Twins would owe him his full salary (minus whatever some team signs him for, IIRC, which would probably be the minimum.)
  6. I'm just curious, does the no-trade clause affect waivers? If someone claims him, does he have to either go or retire?
  7. I sure don't. I'd be shocked (but not upset) if he didn't clear.
  8. I missed it - I was all set to flip between the basketball game vs Iowa and the hockey game, but the basketball game was too good and I forgot to flip back. (Got the W in 2OT.)
  9. Did you ever get the feeling the new FO reads this site, and they are keeping DanSan as long as they possibly can just to spite us?
  10. Hopefully this roll has a few more sheets left on it.
  11. Grossman is coming off an outlier of a season, but I think it was an outlier both with the bat and in the field. I didn't see as many games as I would have liked, but then they didn't win as many games as I would have liked, either. Did his D look as bad as the numbers? The numbers have never been that bad before. His OBP last year was great for a 4th OF and it almost matched his MiLB OBP. He's only 27, so the improvement with the bat may have been real, not just an outlier. I understand the desire to just fire them all, but I'd rather replace them with someone better first. Cleaning house completely and losing 120 games would mean even fewer butts in the seats and less merchandise sold and, ultimately, fewer $$ available to turn this mess around.
  12. Aren't we all? I thought that was in the site registration requirements.
  13. It has been 40 years? Getting old... (My kids would be sure to correct the "getting" part.)
  14. Initially I thought that Santana has been at least as good as Radke was, but it isn't particularly close. It's easy to forget (or to have never realized) how good Radke was because he played on some bad teams and played in an era when run production was through the roof.
  15. 1st thought - we will hopefully move Santana but there's no way we are getting anything for him. 2nd thought - oops, wrong Santana. (I just saw the quote about his batting average being ouch and it stuck in my mind.) It would have to be a pretty good haul to give up that Santana.
  16. A solid #3 vs. a weak #5 (or a rookie who needs another year in the minors) is a big difference.
  17. Our pitchers haven't been the problem. We need the rest of the league to follow suit. (Is Nick Blackburn still available? He was working on the slow-pitch body toward the end of his time with the Twins.)
  18. Well, we sure as heck don't want to see you bunt
  19. Maybe the Twins could convince the league to adopt slow-pitch softball pitching rules.
  20. Don't left-handed batters have a significant advantage in the time to first? (I don't know the actual numbers.) If so, this is even more impressive.
  21. Just a basic overview - not enough to really figure out how to throw any of the pitches except the fastballs. It turns out I used to hold my two-seam fastballs "wrong." My fingers went on the bottom of the u-shaped seam just above the label - the spin still crossed just two seams, but I preferred the feel of pulling down on the that one seam. Maybe that's why I wasn't very good (or maybe it's because my "fastball" was in the upper 70s.)
  22. I thought this commercial with David Ortiz was pretty funny. One of the main reasons I quit playing tennis is my kids were far more interested in playing the Ortiz way. By the time they could even hit two returns in a row my knees didn't let me keep up with them. (It's a family tradition - I did the same thing to my dad.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHg-xcsvq3Y
  23. Slowey might have been at least a bit of a thing anyway if he hadn't gotten hurt. (The epitaph of 95% of all pitchers.)
  24. Guerra struck out 7.0/9 in 11 years in the minors. He had a great change-up, but not much of a fastball.
