  1. I do, because managers have changed the way they manage, and I think we need to reign them back in a bit. In the top of the 7th, the Nats used 6 pitchers to face 8 batters. That's ridiculous. I prefer baseball to chess, and that looks more like chess.
  2. I think that's sarcasm. I hope it's sarcasm. The problem isn't the commercial, it's the break. A couple of changes I would like to see: 1. We already require a pitcher to pitch to the end of one AB; make it 3 AB or until the end of the inning. (No more LOOGY is a good thing.) 2. We give the pitcher 8 warm-up pitches. Give him 1 min or 3 pitches from the time the team makes the substitution. They don't need to warm up while we're watching; they have a bullpen for that. A couple of pitches to get used to the mound should suffice. In the top of the 7th, the Nats used 6 pitchers to face 8 batters. That's ridiculous. I was really hoping the game would go 18 innings so we could see Bryce Harper pitch with an elimination game on the line.
  3. I think Ortiz was younger and better during his time with the Twins, but they let him go because he was blocked by Morneau. P.S. - Anyone who says they predicted at the time that Ortiz would be driving off into a Cooperstown sunset while Morneau would turn into ... whatever it is he turned into, a marginal player on a bad White Sox team - is either a liar or the biggest pessimist ever.
  4. $8M sure doesn't go as far as it used to, but I'd still save it rather than spend it on Plouffe. The Twins can afford the salary, but not the roster spot. Definitely non-tendering Milone as well, and thinking long and hard about Santiago (but probably keeping him.)
  5. We now you can...just won't. It's a long off-season. We can wait a couple of days.
  6. I'm guessing you know this and just mistyped, but Rule 5 draftees have to be on the 25-man roster, not just the 40-man. Your point still holds, since it's less likely he'd be kept on the 25.
  7. I say yes. Garver has 22 games at AAA and so-so production in AA. Murphy was a train wreck all year. I see little reason to believe that would be a successful combo at the MLB level next year (and for most of my time here I have been using "Irrational Optimist" as my member title.)
  8. You mean I gave up too soon? I hate it when I do that. Go Twins!
  9. On yesterday's list, several people were surprised Vielma was ranked so low, and I thought the same thing. It's always difficult to weigh potential for players at different stages of their careers, but I'd have a tough time ranking him behind a pitcher whose career consists of 11.2 innings in the DSL and who is coming off TJ surgery. Really, I think I would have him above everyone on this list - MLB-ready glove at SS, good OBP, young enough to progress. If he doesn't have a MLB career, I will be more surprised than going 0-5 on any of today's list even making it to the majors.
  10. When in doubt, go with sarcastic. It's the default setting on the game threads.
  11. Say it a hundred times next year and it will be enough said.
  12. I think for once we are running the right way.
  13. So it's still OK to disparage him?
  14. Your science is blinding https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2VNxmn0lNA
  15. Definitely not worried about Korean teams
  16. We need to use all that now and save the aged 12 games stuff for next year. (A couple of bottles would be nice.)
  17. If his ERA stays over 6 he's going to be in the family business full-time pretty soon.
  18. I think once or twice a week is the wrong way
  19. I wasn't there but, but that night was expecting a replacement for a photo someone (turns out it was you) had posted the night before of mindcrime's reaction to "As the Game Thread approaches the brutal 8th inning wall of another blowout, Brian and Chief arrive just in time to pass out 'Likes' to weary posters..." I guess I'm still waiting. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/23973-article-game-thread-twins-v-mariners-923-710pm-ct/page-5
  20. It turns out the problem was he never got to face Twins pitching. (Should pitching be in quotes, or are we not quite there yet.)
  21. Good call. I was pretty confident they would get it wrong on replay and a 2-run HR would follow. This year that's called playing the odds.
  22. Really? Late to the party tonight, but I thought last night's game thread was one of the best ever. I'm not sure there was actually a game, but the game thread was fun.
  23. I'll kick in a few buck for it of that's what it takes.
