  1. Not too far off - 17-10/2.90 and 15-12/4.01. And almost 4 w/30 HR. I couldn't remember if they just made it or just missed it, but Kirby had 28.
  2. I didn't realize Viola and Blyleven were that good. My memories of that season are still in old-school stats (top of my head - 17-10/3.20, 15-11/3.70; 4 guys w/30+ HR - I'll check how I did in a minute). I haven't gone back and looked at how good they were according to the modern stats.
  3. I've been a Vikings fan since 1970, so I can. I also saw the 1987 Twins go on a run in October despite having pitching staff that was almost as bad as this one, so I can see scenarios going the other way, too.
  4. Eddie Rosario stuck a pretty big pin in that voodoo doll! I think we're resigned to the fact that he's not getting fired, but we still wish he wouldn't bunt so much.
  5. Last year we would have counted that as a win. And a quality start.
  6. Hopefully he signs in the NL so the game count goes the other way. ` I guess I could hope KC overpays to re-sign him, reducing the likelihood they pose a threat to the Twins over the next few years.
  7. I think that's a young Tom Cruise, before he learned the proper technique: http://i2.cdn.cnn.com/cnnnext/dam/assets/150323201742-erin-pkg-moos-mission-impossible-5-tom-cruise-00001504-large-169.jpg
  8. Probably wise advice, since I'm still waiting for Liriano to win his Cy Young.
  9. I know this thread is old, but I'm catching up on some reading. Homework: Memorize the names Phil Cuzzi and CB Bucknor (just in case MLB implements your rule suggestion.)

    Falvey

My guess is his answer will be that professional sports are about selling entertainment and making money, and that's certainly true. I'm usually more entertained when my team wins, but so is everyone else. That means there needs to be some degree of competitive balance. The Yankee fans might not agree with that, but I prefer it when they are in a down cycle. The whining and public outcry among their fans adds to my entertainment value.

    Falvey

I was fine with Melville as well. He was a former top prospect who had injury issues and is now healthy. I still would like to see him get another shot at some point. Falvey was given lemons to work with. He's making lemonade as best he can.
  12. Just to emphasize your point, Joe West was suspended for three games for calling Adrian Beltre the biggest complainer in the game, and his comments were nowhere near as malicious as what Kinsler said. West's comments were in response to a direct question (at least, that's the only way they make sense) and were really fairly light-hearted: "It's got to be Adrian Beltre. Every pitch you call that's a strike, he says, "Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!' I had a game with him recently and the pitch was right down the middle. He tells me, "That ball is outside.' "I told him, 'You may be a great ballplayer, but you're the worst umpire in the league. You stink.'' I think Joe West could have told that with Beltre sitting next to him and there would have been no ill will between them. (Beltre would have laughed and said "it was a foot outside, Joe" but that would have been it.) The Kinsler comments were personal, vicious, directly involving the guy's livelihood, and will impact the fans in every game Hernandez umpires in the future. (Most fans couldn't tell a great umpire from a horrible one, but they can sure repeat what Kinsler said.) My guess is MLB has a process for teams to address grievances with officiating, and I'm pretty sure ranting to the media isn't part of it. I thought a 3-day suspension was the baseline they should have started with, and the $10,000 fine was less than a slap on the wrist. (His salary is $11M for this year, which equals $67,901.23 per game, or $7,544 per inning. He was fined 1.3 innings' salary. How will he feed his family?)
  13. I think you left out a few o's. Sanoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!
  14. Or he could have waived him around and done a big fist-pump when he scored, to make up for last time..
  15. If only he was capable of lobbing the ball over the plate when we're down 16-0.
  16. Not really a nickname, but I'd love to see Santana with Johan on his uniform.
  17. Subtlety apparently isn't his forte. (I thought Bilateral would be a good one to add to that list.)
  18. If you really cut it loose up to 160 your drive time is only 12-1/2 hours. The jail time might be a bit longer, though. No predictions on the hospital stay.
  19. He honest, how many were thinking the same thing before that hit?

    Enns this experiment now!

RE: "If Enns can be sucessful in the Majors then I am coming out of Retirement!" If you thought last night was a quick hook...
  21. Last year? Are you sure? I just remember an uninterrupted string of misery last year. Was it 2015? 2006? 1988?
  22. Actually, I don't know who. There are too many "you-know-who's" on the 40-man.
  23. Would adding lime to moonshine make it almost drinkable too?
  24. Far too many of those - Oliva was great but..., I know Bostock had already left but ..., Castino, Koskie, Liriano*, Ortiz (for different reasons), Morneau, and now Mauer. Edit - One more to add - Scott Erickson was absolutely dominant for a little more than half of the 1991 season. He had a bad start, tweaked his elbow (not necessarily in that order), missed a start or two, and was never the same. Maybe it was smoke and mirrors, but I think it was more than that. * - Santana had one of the best 4-5 year runs in history, and for 2006(?), in the middle of that run, he was the 2nd-best starter on the team until Liriano hurt his UCL.
  25. If it was the Bud Light Lime talking, you'd be discussing our World Series pitching rotation.
