  1. I liked it better back when that was the Red Sox' motto/war cry.
  2. Even in that case, the $8M would only be a rounding error. We would consider giving those guys $500M combined, but that $8M we spent on Pineda would make us think twice?
  3. Wasn't the payroll record set before the latest TV deal kicked in? For the last few years, spending would have just been in the pursuit of mediocrity, so payroll has been low, but based on the increased revenue, $130M - $150M is where they ought to be over the next few years.
  4. I feel very strongly both ways! (Those old Lite beer commercials had some great lines.)
  5. I'd say it's A and B - too much to give up, but right on what it would take to get it done. I'd pass at that price. I'd think a bit longer about the reported asking price of Nick Gordon, Tyler Jay, and Zach Granite.
  6. Feel free to make this a recurring post.
  7. This will ensure the debate will continue long after everyone who saw him play is dead. If it got to the point where most of what was left of his memory was the numbers, the debate would have died away eventually if he wasn't in.
  8. Sign me up! I've never been and I spend most of my 24 years in the AF avoiding PACAF (especially Korea), but they weren't offering me that kind of money. I did manage to spend 11 years in England, Belgium, and Germany, so I'm sure I could adapt. Chicago, on the other hand... (ducking)
  9. One interesting thing about this is it looks like $50M is the magic number - if a player declines a QO and then signs for less than $50M in total guaranteed, no picks are awarded. I'd say 4/48 plus $12M in fairly easy incentives is more likely than 4/$60
  10. Cleaning out the fringes of the bullpen, I see.
  11. There is one big difference - Mick Jagger is still singing Satisfaction, while his baseball-playing fellow entertainers from that era have been forced give it up 30-40 years ago.
  12. Cubs history = 107 years until next championship. Cubs fanbase will show up as long as they sell beer. The money is an issue, what is the Cubs payroll these days? I think the biggest issue is management, and there have been positive steps taken to get better there. We're just starting offseason year two.
  13. Substitute Yankees for Dodgers and you have mine. My real second favorite is the Jays for as long as they keep their current manager and pitching coach. (Both have ties to my home town.)
  14. I saw most of the Killebrew era as the Killebrew-Oliva era, and I would add Tony O to that list of greatest Twins ever (whether or not the HoF agrees.)
  15. I don't feel bad for the fans, and that sting is what I consider the silver lining around the dark cloud of the Yankees winning again.
  16. Unfortunately, he's just a spectator - not on the roster for this game.
  17. Nothing - we're just getting warmed up.
  18. That would be right around never. (+/- a couple of years.)
  19. Three kinds of people - those who can count and those who can't
  20. My daughter plays, so I guess I am (when I'm not umpiring).
  21. I'm surprised they didn't get the call the first time.
  22. It's working so far. Got any more Yankee memorabilia? Or goats? We can send over more bourbon, and you have at least three walls left.
  23. I interpreted the "strike early" as build a decent lead. The best chance to win is to do that and then have Santana shut them down. A low-scoring affair can quickly turn into a battle of the bullpens, but if the Twins are up 6-0, I don't care who pitches for the Yankees.
  24. I think we have Kyle Gibson's answer.
