  1. It sure seems like he has been around longer than that. Maybe it's just that 2009 is further in the past than is seems.
  2. Maybe he means we need to put a couple of them in less stressful situations, like working the checkout at Wal-Mart or pitching in Rochester, and take the pressure of pitching in the majors off them. .
  3. I didn't see the game, but an average velocity on the 4-seam of 86 is concerning. It was speculated that one of the reasons the A's demoted and then traded him was a loss of velocity, and so far it appears they were right. He will have a hard time succeeding unless he turn into Jaime Moyer (and convinces the umpires) or rediscovers about 5 ticks on the fastball.
  4. So has Levi Michael decided to become a prospect again? I had written him off as a bust, but maybe it was too soon. He still doesn't hit for power and he's playing 2b instead of SS, but even when he was hitting .229 his OBP was .331, which is acceptable (except for the fact that it was at A+ and he was a college guy repeating the level.) This year he finally figured out A+ and it appears to have carried over to AA, although we're only talking about a little over 200 AB combined. Is it realistic to hope that maybe we will get some value out of that 1st round pick after all?
  5. It's dangerous to ask for "thoughts and analysis" on the night of the pub crawl.
  6. One thing we can say is his second start was an improvement. That's the advantage of setting the bar low enough - some improvement is almost inevitable. Still, you can't tell much about a young pitcher after one or two starts. If you could, Andrew Albers would be our ace right now. May is still a good (but not great) prospect, and that hasn't changed. It would be nice to see him have some success in the next 6 weeks.
  7. I'd settle for Craig Kusick
  8. You didn't like Les Straker as the #3?
  9. People always talk about there being so much foul territory in Oakland, but it appears the problem is actually fair territory is too narrow. First Dozier missed the tying HR by inches on Thursday, and then Willingham misses one by inches on Friday. It has been that kind of season.

    Why I Liked Bill Smith

It looked like the Twins got their pockets picked on paper, trading undervalued assets for overvalued ones. It wasn't as bad as Capps for Ramos or the JJ Hardy giveaway, but it was bad.
  11. It Hicks switch-hitting again or has he stayed exclusively right-handed? I know it's only AA and he's done it before, but his line is at least encouraging: AVG AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO OBP SLG OPS vs Right .280 93 19 26 6 1 2 11 16 16 382 .430 .812
  12. I agree - let's not mention them (or at least hope we don't have to.)
  13. I'd be surprised if the contract even mentions a position. He signed a contract to play baseball. I don't think too many teams are lining up to trade for an average 1B with a huge contract and a rough injury history.
  14. I have enjoyed most of the tournament, but the Argentina-Netherlands game was extremely boring. It's not just that it went to PKs at 0-0, but there were so few decent scoring chances. At halftime I said it was going to PKs. I'd like to see them change it to 10 players and allow more subs. If not that, then maybe just take one player off for each OT session and keep playing until someone scores. (Maybe cut that off at 7 per side.
  15. I can't help you. I used up the last of mine in June of last year. Ok, that's not quite true. I managed to score some back in March (that seems to be the season for it) and I find an occasional hit now and then, but it never seems to last very long.
  16. I hope he makes one soon, because he's one for his last 28, his last HR was June 14th, and he has had 1 extra-base hit since then. I think he will snap out of it, but he has looked a bit run-down lately.
  17. That was good. Where is the like button when I need it.
  18. I thought it was going to compare the teams to MLB teams: Germany = NY Yankees. Win a lot. Arrogant. Hate them. US = KC Royals. Lots of prospects. Always rebuilding. Never get there. We would be short a few MLB teams, so... Columbia = St. Paul Saints. Can't compete with the big boys, but always a lot of fun. That's just a quick start off the top of my head. I don't know enough about soccer to finish the list (and there might be a better match than Columbia for the Saints.)
  19. Can the bring back the Whalers name? They already have a mascot, although they might have to rename him (from "Pucky") http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q124/cdnuniguy/Mascots/puckythewhale.jpg They could even use the Brass Bonanza for home runs. http://www.brassbonanza.com/hcc/whalers-audio/brass-bonanza
  20. I'm not even ready to concede that yet.

    My Twins Mt. Rushmore

I did a list in my head before I clicked the link - perfect match. I did think about holding off on Tony O and saving a spot for Mauer, but I assumed we were ready to break ground now and he's not quite there yet, and no sure thing to get there now. Blyleven might be worth an honorable mention, although he built a fair amount of his resume between his two times with the Twins. Johan's list isn't very long, but the peaks were awfully high. He has two of the four Cy Young awards in team history, and he should have had a third. Does TK deserve an honorable mention?
