  1. Doesn't the regular season usually start on a Sunday or Monday? I'm glad I came to TD today, because I was looking forward to the season starting on April 1st. Happy April Fool's day to me.
  2. I'm worried that Buxton may indeed follow that blueprint. He constantly looks like he is on the verge of catastrophic injury out there and appears to have very little awareness of the location of the walls.
  3. He was better in 2017 and he was better prior to 2016 in the field. He had a bad year with the glove in 2016. I'm not sure why - maybe he had some communication issues playing with some young guys, maybe he didn't put as much work into that side of the ball that year. I think I remember him acknowledging some struggles and putting extra work in to get better during the offseason prior to last year.
  4. I will be glad to accept that bet. How much would you like to wager? BTW, the over/under is 120.
  5. I agree with everything except one word - "getting." The guy is just old, no getting about it. I am not looking forward to the experience - I haven't even strapped in yet and I'm already ready to get off the roller coaster.
  6. Makes me question whether or not you're a Vikings fan.
  7. I would say it does close to the opposite (and is a bit less subtle). I think a cutter is usually held closer to the outside seam with a bit more pressure from the middle finger, causing it to bear in on the lefthanded hitters. (I ignored that fact that you were asking Parker, but I wouldn't mind hearing his more-informed take too.)
  8. 0 PA, 69 PA, and .577 OPS. Two propects of some sort and we know Florimon.
  9. And I thought I was irrationally optimistic. In 2014, Hughes was better than he ever had been before and better than he has been since. If he can get back to 75% of that, he could still be useful, but I would still give long odds against even that happening for any extended period of time.
  10. Is that the right movie, or did they let Chargois go because he has an ugly girlfriend? (No confidence.)
  11. Liriano just signed for $4M + incentives (another likely $1M). I would have preferred that to 3-4 years of Lynn.
  12. Go with your first instinct - not tough at all. It's an excellent article, but the headline really detracts. Plus, Cody isn't a fragile newbie blogger; he can handle the truth. That was the perfect response.
  13. I'm more optimistic about Gibson than I ever have been in the past. That may be a bit of damning with faint praise, but I also think he might have made some changes that can lead to sustained success. That bit about the slider is encouraging as well. Hopefully he doesn't forget how to do everything that works like he and Buxton seem to do in the off-season.
  14. I have always liked him and wouldn't object. Take a mulligan - sign him and release Sanchez.
  15. If they get 4/60 that would probably be better the 17 now and betting on 3/43 or more at age 32. I'm not sure where you would draw the line. Would 4/50 be better? 3/42? A pitching arm is a fragile commodity and I'm sure there is a desire to lock in as much total compensation as possible, and players will likely accept a lower AAV if they can lock in enough years.
  16. So there's hope - maybe they will notice that the right arm hasn't been attached to the body for the past 3 years
  17. To paraphrase the horrible old song, if that's wrong, I don't want to be right.
  18. I've heard Nuke as a verb, but definitely not Lalooshing.
  19. Apparently we passed on the rowboat, motorboat and helicopter and will be waiting for a couple of the young guys to become Cy Young candidates.
  20. I had forgotten that. You're now in charge of the grudge department around here. (I don't want to sign him because I don't think he's any good anymore.)
  21. It was really only one colossal thread, and it was AWESOME! None of the Darvish threads will hold a candle to that one until they hit as least 500 posts.
  22. There are some subtleties, like slight turns of the body or the wrist on certain pitches, or not rising up too high to catch a pitch near the letters. But for the most part it's just difficult to actually do it at a top level while also worrying about so many other things. There always were guys who had the reputation as being good receivers. What's new is the attempt to actually quantify the advantage (or disadvantage, depending on the catcher.)
  23. I don't remember too many people being OK with Correia, and I remember a lot of people being upset about the Twins wasting a roster spot and $10M or so on a replacement-level pitcher.
