edit: forgot to quote when I first posted That would be awesome. I still have the jersey in my closet. That's probably the only reason it would be awesome. Maybe next year is the year he finally puts it together and wins a Cy Young. (I've been thinking that for a decade; why stop now?)
I don't think we will know for sure for another year or two (when Murphy makes his first all-star game appearance while Moya is serving up BP coming out of the Twins' bullpen.) (Yes, THAT was sarcasm. I hope.)
We still have September call-ups to come - can we get to 50? I think great pitchers get more calls because they hit their spots and the catcher can actually frame it instead of stabbing at it. I've seen a lot of pitches hit the zone but called balls because the catcher was set up on the other corner.
Minor league attendance tends to fluctuate a lot based on day of the week and special promotions. I'm curious how much of that was Tebow, how much was Friday night (with many people taking Monday off to start a 4-day week-end), and how much was "Fireworks Friday" (with the 4th just around the corner). The team site didn't miss the chance to play up the appearance:
I saw the two they one, although for 1987 I followed it in the Stars & Stripes newspaper and had to wait for family to send me the video tapes to watch the games. I didn't see the 1965 series - we were in the process of moving at the time. Plus, I was 10 months old. They lost, so I got caught up on the experience by watching he Vikings in a few Super Bowls.
Maybe it was the camera angle, but that Sano HR didn't look like much coming off the bat, but he's so strong it just carries. It didn't look anything like the Vargas shot yesterday, but it wasn't that much shorter. If he ever really get ahold of one...
Yeah, my first thought when I saw he had that was "they have this doctor hanging around with only one patient and decided to try to get their money's worth out of him."
I think Legion ball play by NFHS rules, and aggressive, intentional contact is normally rules malicious contact, an automatic ejection. If you lower your shoulder and run into a catcher or other fielder, it's an easy call.
He might want to ask politely, because a response is pretty easy to come by: Year ERA G GS IP H R ER BB SO ERA+ FIP WHIP 2016 6.43 26 26 133 167 103 95 32 114 66 4.73 1.496
For the record here, yes, I would have preferred Greene. I thought he could have been elite at either position, while with McKay I was skeptic at both positions.
I thought it was more likely he would be mediocre at everything but wasn't likely to be truly special at any one thing even if he focused on the one thing. I really didn't want a 1B at 1-1 unless he was a once in a generation sure-thing hitting talent.
