  1. Eddie isn't staying on a 1-year team friendly deal. Not being offered arbitration is a slight, even if it's a "business decision." He might sign for $8 somewhere, but not in MN. Players move on when this happens.
  2. I agree. And it's a position, like the 4th catcher, where it's possible to get a few MiLB FA or timely waiver wire claims to fill the void. It's how they got Adrianza, after all.
  3. 6 IF feels light. Excited to have real Twins news. Playing GM is fun, but I prefer the real roster talk. How many days until pitchers & catchers report*?
  4. I remember the Berrios extension rumors, but not Buxton. Sorry. No need to be insulting about it. Also, these are conversations that happen behind closed doors. Contract discussions that make the papers are generally rumors. It's often helpful to get a feel for what's going on, but it's not the full picture. So whatever was reported in 2018 is not necessarily reflective of anything in 2020.
  5. Has he commented on this? (If so, wow they ask them early these days...personally I wouldn't even be having the extend or trade conversation for another year.)
  6. Hand is definitely unusual. But Cleveland is kind of the early 2000 Twins: They have a good roster but they have to get creative within their budget to maintain any kind of success. (And they'd pulled it off so far.) The last 2-3 years have trended toward more players taking the QO. Stroman and Gausman don't surprise me at all. Well, Stroman does. But as a person and player, he surprises me more often than not.
  7. My prediction is a "normal" market for SP and premiere RP this offseason, then a slow market for everyone else. Pitching is always is too much demand. Even in these odd times. Strike fast if you want somebody with a proven track record. You can add projects and 7th-inning types later.
  8. If trading him creates a hole in CF, then you only do so if you're rebuilding.
  9. SS isn't a weakness on this roster.
  10. When the Twins are bad we get bombarded with "I'd rather be in St Paul jokes."
  11. Eddie has been a great player for the Twins. It's just time to move on -- more because of contract and depth than anything else. To be cliche, it's a business. I'd rather not see him non-tendered, because I feel like that's a slight to his skill. But I won't be heartbroken if it happens either.
  12. And if not the Twins, imagine watching a division rival's top prospects play on the regular. We can all be amateur scouts.
  13. In the past I was skeptical of these rumors. For most indie teams, it would be a great opportunity but the Saints have a unique brand and a strong following. But I wonder if Covid has changed that tune a bit.
  14. How is it sensational to report the facts? Here's the headline I see on ESPN: Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa charged with DUI stemming from February arrest, court docs show.
  15. Analytics definitely existed in 2005. This is interesting, if only because the two players somehow do remind me of each other -- I think it's more about the spark their personalities provide to the clubhouse though, which is pretty irrelevant to this discussion and completely subjective.
  16. I disagree with your entire post, but this part is easily refuted by looking at alcohol-related statistics. It may not make him a "bad person" whatever that subjective term means, but it makes him unfit to be a manager. He repeatedly breaks laws, endangers lives, and shows addictive behavior. Those are not qualities I want in charge of my organization.
  17. I think the defense was much improved in 2020 and given the short season, we shouldn't make too much of the stats anyway. I also agree with the premise that the team should improve DEF wherever possible (but not that they should favorite it over other elements of the game). I think there is room to do so in replacing Marwin. Replacing Rosario for Kiriloff/Rooker/Cave may not be an improvement, but time will tell.
  18. That was my joke. I can't imagine a team taking a player with so little experience and such poor performance in his most recent sample. Last year he was a long shot. This year I don't think it's worth considering.
  19. Twins have made a lot of late offseason deals under this FO. Lynn and Morrison bombed, but Marwin and (I think others I can't name right now) worked out. I expect more of that philosophy this year for useful role players (bench, bullpen, etc).
  20. A lot of people use (or blame) data without understanding the data.
  21. It's weird that the Central is making the splashy moves so far.
  22. Zero risk to a DFA claim in October when you have 33 on the roster. Worst case for the Twins is they drop them later (which is, of course, less than ideal for the player).
