  1. I don't know what it was, but yeah, was a dumb move, and was different than the usual visa problems that many ball players face.
  2. It actually doesn't sound at all like Romero's situation. Romero was actually on his way and was stopped at customs/immigration and was not allowed in and sent back home. It wasn't a visa issue, at least from how it all unfolded. Visa issues with ball players are not uncommon. But, yeah ... hope it gets resolved quickly.
  3. No. Not this year. This from the Twins' website: 'Non-Game Day Policies – In accordance with Major League Baseball regulations, the CenturyLink Sports Complex will NOT be open for the public to view non-game day workouts in 2021. The only exception will be the Hammond Stadium Box Office and lower level Merchandise Store, which will be open from 10:00AM to 4:00PM Monday-Friday, and 10:00AM to 2:00PM Saturday-Sunday, beginning Wednesday February 25th, 2021 through Tuesday March 30th, 2021.' I'm sure that applies to game days, too. No access to the other areas and limited capacity to the stadium for games.
  4. Another good tune!
  5. I've been meaning to try to get to a game in Cedar Rapids for years now. I live in Chicago, so it's not an impossible drive for me ... it's always an issue with time and work ... difficult for me to get time off in the summer until the back half of August. Welcome to TD!
  6. I'll trade iffy IL weather for iffy FL weather this time of year
  7. Okay, putting on my moderator cap ... This is not a covid vaccination discussion. Some discussion is necessary because of restrictions still in place for ST, whether or not you agree with it, but, the ballpark IS opening up, and that is something to get excited about, albeit, continued adherence of CDC advice. Things are looking hopeful, but we aren't there yet. While early data is looking promising that the vaccines will also limit transmission, it is not conclusive and research and medical experts still warn that masks and distancing for the foreseeable near future are recommended. The Twins are following the science. Stop suggesting otherwise. For everyone else ... talk about ST, will you or won't you go, that's what this topic is about.
  8. Stay away from trees in and after an ice storm. Limbs break from the weight and come crashing down.
  9. My Mom is 91, lives in Florida, and her first dose is tomorrow. So yeah ... distribution is still being ramped up but isn't quite there yet. I won't get my first dose in IL who knows when. I am priority group 2, however, we are still in 1b with 1c next, so, depending on what they do with distribution, I'm not likely to see vaccination for a few months yet. Mask wearing is the best effective means, for now, to keep it in check. Yeah, it's outdoor seating and yeah, people will be distanced 'in pods,' but, people will be coming and going to get to their seats, and getting into the park and through the concourse, I can see the mask requirement and I think the Twins are wise to do their due diligence. We don't know the efficacy in transmission rates yet, so, due diligence is wise, imo. That said, I'm happy to see that there will be ST, and that there will be fans allowed there at all. If I am able, I will try to get a pair of tickets for when I'm there (you will have to purchase tickets in pairs or in fours, no single tickets), and I will gladly don my mask, if that's what it takes, to go to a live baseball game!
  10. They are still playing the same number of games, but are just playing the same cluster of teams who are closest, something they have been doing for a while, but now not even the occasional ‘far away’ team. If you look at their schedule, only two off days, which is typical. So pitchers should still be able to get their pitching in.
  11. I can't wait to hear more! This is really great!
  12. Back on topic, please ... and keep it civil.
  13. This is what I wanted them to do last year ... get a higher quality SS and move Polanco to 2nd, and trade Arraez when his value was high. While they will still find regular at bats for him, as you said, it is still a demotion, and who knows how that sits ... hard to say. I just don't see either Arraez or Polanco as good backups at 3rd, unless they move Sano over from time to time ... or still have a trade or signing to make.
  14. MODERATOR WARNING: This is a baseball forum, and not a forum to discuss Schilling's politics. It's enough to say 'I don't want him in the hall because of it' or 'Eh, that shouldn't matter, no matter what. He should be in the hall for his baseball record.' That's pertinent. But don't take the next step as we are not here to get into the specifics of a political debate.
  15. As just a regular poster, I'll say this: I actually wouldn't compare Schilling to anyone in history. He's a former ball player, not a historical figure, good or bad. And nor would I compare the Hall of Fame and its process for admittance, to any event in history, either. As to the merits or not of getting into the hall? Eh, there are some in the Hall I think are questionable to even being there, and several who should and aren't. I don't have a solution for changing that, but at this point, I don't really care who is in or who isn't. And, further, isn't there something in there about character? I don't know, but there are more question marks for me about Schilling than his personal political stances. Based on baseball merits alone, he should probably be in. But if there is other criteria being considered? Eh, don't know ... and that is very subjective, so unless there are more guidelines to that ... As I said, perhaps it is time to review how someone is/isn't elected to the Hall. As a moderator, I'll say this to everyone ... stick to topic and tread lightly. It's possible to make general remarks about Schilling, whether you agree or disagree, without finding yourself too far into the weeds of a political discussion, whether in defense or admonishment. And please ... rebut the post and don't weigh in on the character or tone of other posters. Use the report feature if you feel remarks have become too personal.
  16. I think it will be Arraez who will be playing more of a utility role and Polanco will get more time at 2nd base
  17. Okay ... let's not go down the broader road here discussing whether or not those vaccinated can still infect an unvaccinated person. There isn't enough data yet to support that one way or another and going with our individual speculations on that isn't a productive discussion. But ... I get the missing baseball part ... I have been to ST every year since 2001, and a handful of others before then since they started training in Fort Myers. I was lucky to be down there last February, you know, before, and got to see some practice and one game. And I would hate to miss this year. However, if the players are unable to get vaccinated by then, and that is a likelihood, their health and safety would need to come first. And I want a season to be played and don't want it shut down. If access is denied or limited, I'll deal with it, but I don't want the play itself shut down. Perhaps they'll figure out the logistics that serves the best outcome for all involved - players, staff, spectators; maybe vaccinated only will be allowed and only through a certain gate, and not near players warming up in the fields outside the stadium, and seated in the upper areas only. Not sure yet what will be. I get the impatience, though.
  18. The players may not even be able to be vaccinated by then, so that may also be a factor, too. We will just have to wait for announcements from the team.
  19. Before this discussion gets too entrenched and heading in directions that invite political disagreement, may I remind everyone that we have a 'no political discussion' rule at TD. It's unfortunate, especially during historic moments of this past week and the uncertainty of volatility moving forward, that we can't come together as a community and discuss events openly and honestly, but it has proven to not be the case when a small handful of people enter the conversation to troll and to bait. There are many places out there to have these discussions, so we ask you to please not go down that path here. Thank you. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/34140-political-threads-on-twins-daily-policy-update-please-read/
  20. I think we've gone around this enough. When they announce their new name, I'll reopen this for further discussion.
  21. Stop with the off topic 'What abouting' ... if it's not about Cleveland, specifically, it's off topic.
  22. I’m sure he wasn’t suggesting Cleveland name themselves that. And yes, given this discussion and its nature, I think Cleveland finally made the correct decision. The name was obviously causing plenty of divisiveness among the fans and indigenous peoples, who I think largely prefer to be identified according to their tribe, but I still read a lot of indecision there, too. The bottom line for me is that it’s the Cleveland ownerships decision to make no matter what I think of it. I happen to agree with and applaud the decision, but eh, whatever I think on it matters not as it’s a done decision and I’m not in their fan base. I do look forward to seeing what they come up with and hope it’s better than the Mussels or the Wind Surge.
  23. ROAD TRIP!
  24. Ditto what Ash said. Your insight and perspective on the life of a minor leaguer is great. Even if no longer a Twins affiliate, you still provide us with a good ‘inside look’ of things. Thanks,
