  1. Moderator warning: Enough. First, this discussion has gone well off the road. This topic is about Cleveland. If you want to continue this discussion about Notre Dame and other team names, approriation or whatnot ... you can PM one another, or start a discussion regarding team names in the Sports Bar forum. But I expect respectful discourse and a certain amount of hearing one another. Second, Brock is right about the 'whataboutisms.' Stop doing that. Whether or not anyone's intent, it's part of what has driven this off topic. And now we're not talking about Cleveland, and this thread is now being equated to 'What about them? huh? If this, then that.' That constitutes thread jacking. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/8228-twins-daily-comment-policy/?p=164092 If you have nothing further to say about Cleveland ownership deciding to change their name, move along.
  2. It’s called negotiating in bad faith. I’ve been on the wrong end of that before and it is not commendable.
  3. Cleveland Bullfrogs ... I like it!
  4. The Rockers
  5. Just drop the surge part ... the Witchita Wind
  6. Chuck Yaeger... from a few days ago ... RIP and, it must be said, Godspeed. And now today, Charlie Pride, a COVID-related death, RIP.
  7. Well, as long as they blow away the competition, I'll be all right with it
  8. So ... what do people in Wichita think of the name?
  9. I always qualify that home run on his first MLB at bat ... it wasn't just his first at bat, but the first pitch of his first at bat. Also ... I like the 'forced balk' play, too, as a career highlight. I don't know if it's truly a career highlight, but it was an awesome, gamer move and he scored the tie-breaking, winning run of the game off that.
  10. It's the 'surge' part of the name that is weird to me ... maybe just leave it at 'wind' ... but then that opens up the door for other jokes. I suppose tornados or cyclones is overused in that part of the country
  11. I hope he doesn’t land there ... if he does, it will haunt us
  12. Not surprising, but I'm still sad. Sigh.
  13. I was looking forward to trying to get to a game at Pensacola, but I guess that's how it goes. The Wichita Wind Surge? That's kind of ...
  14. That is probably the only place I'd sit if/when I go back there for a game. Anywhere else, and you miss seeing part of the field. As I said, Wrigley is historic, and for that reason everyone should go to a game there for the experience of it, but I would not spend money to attend games there regularly.
  15. No, I'm not a teacher. Teachers are not paid during the summer. That is not paid vacation leave. I just have a really good job.
  16. Only 22? I get 10 weeks You haven't been to Target Field yet? Or did I miss the reference? I actually don't mind where the ChiSox play ... not great, but I don't think it's awful, either, just kind of meh, nothing special, and much prefer it to watching a game to Wrigley. Yeah, yeah, yeah ... Wrigley is the historic place, and yeah, everyone should see a game there, but visibility is poor and seating cramped in most of the park, not to mention the logistics of getting in and out. Loved AT&T ... and didn't mind the chill, because, well, I was prepared for it ... it is San Francisco, on the water, after all. Milwaukee ... eh, sitting in a coffee can. Haven't been to a lot yet ... even with my 10 weeks paid vacation. And I love the Twins ST facilities ... it's done very well, imo, and enjoy both ST games as well as Miracle (ooops, Mightly Mussels) games.
  17. NO ONE, not one person, said she should have been hired BECAUSE she was a woman. And she was not hired because she is a woman ... so just stop with that line, because no one is saying it. She has been in the running for a GM job for a decade, because she is that qualified. She was hired because she is that qualified. But it IS a big deal because she is the first woman to occupy the job. And, for the record, there is a disparity in the job market for women and minorities, and it has nothing to do with qualifications but is completely about 'immutable characteristics'. She has broken a barrier, and that should be noted. Should we not honor Jackie Robinson then, too? She has been qualified for this job and in the market for a GM job for a decade, and has finally been hired because of those qualities, and yes, she should be judged by the job she does. However, she is the first woman in that role, and that is important. Maybe not to you, but it is important. And yes, it would be great if everyone was blind to the 'immutable characteristics' for equality to exist, and yes, I hope that's the goal for everyone. But, sadly, we are a million miles away from that. In a perfect world ...
  18. It's not 'dumb' to make a big deal out of it because it IS a big deal. She is the first woman ever to hold that position, and, it was a long time coming. She is eminently qualified and has been passed over FOR YEARS. Inequities in the job market for women and minorities is real, whether or not you choose to acknowledge that, and it is a big deal when someone breaks down a barrier, because they've probably had to work harder and be better than their competition just to get in the door. And it should be lauded and celebrated, and attention should be drawn to it. imo. What wouldn't be a big deal if yet another white, male was hired for the job.
  19. That was quite the ending to the game last night. Wow! And go Rays’
  20. So, so very sad He was an incredible musician ... his talent and skills were obvious even to those with less trained musical ears.
  21. I <3 Rosie ... and that’s all I have to say on that
  22. I think you could read it as someone who wants to stay and is signaling that. If you are going to read into things, that would be my take.
  23. Make sure to join us in today’s game thread! When so many venues are closed, we can still enjoy the game together online! http://twinsdaily.com/topic/42345-astros-vs-twins-game-1-928-1pm-central/
  24. Ack! She’s alive and well!
  25. If they want to complete the impact ... they need to get a robe for the Squirrel
