  1. If Mauer were in the game that would've been a solo homerun.
  2. Not a bird you'd see up here this far north and in the city. I used to feed the birds on my balcony ... mostly for live cat TV ... mostly got house finches, a few cardinals, had a single rose-breasted grosbeak once, must've been lost, then the morning doves started showing up. I drew the line there and stopped. Besides being incredibly messy, the next step after morning dove was pigeon, if they made it up that high to the 11th floor. My parents always had a lot of birds in their backyard, from humming birds to wild turkeys, was always interesting to see what showed up to their various feeders. There is a bird sanctuary not too far from me, but I've never been.
  3. Vermilion flycatcher. http://www.world-birds.com/birds/v/vermilion-flycatcher
  4. Beautiful! My parents were backyard birders ... always had feeders of different sorts up to attract different varieties. Orioles (of the Baltimore variety) were always so pretty.
  5. You were ninja'd by Dinger on that one. Late to the party isn't always fashionable.
  6. Heh ... I think a school in Hawaii should be the Nenes.
  7. Okay ... looking at the list of state birds, that might not work ... we'd have too many Cardinals followed by a number of Turkeys, Mockingbirds and Meadowlarks. Then we'd have to distinguish between eastern and mountain Bluebirds, and who would get Robins? But truly, Minnesota is the only Loon among the bunch.
  8. Maybe our sports teams should be named for our state bird. So which team gets to be called the Loons?
  9. Tallest man-made structure in North America? Um, hmm, taller than the Willis Tower? That was man made, I believe.
  10. I don't think there was much to remember.
  11. I think the Chachalakas would make for a great team name.
  12. Gibson pitched today as I thought (hoped) he would following ST. Yes, my high hopes were dashed, but I'm hoping we're seeing a serviceable change from him.
  13. I think at the very least those three should be in AAA, and soon. Some of these prospects can be given cups of coffee in the big leagues, see how they do and let them also see what they need to do to stay up. And whoever shows closest to ready, a September call up. I'm not in favor of DFA'ing or trading 3/5 of the starting rotation right now in order to throw these guys in there for the duration of the season, especially without any AAA time under their belts. I think that would be disastrous. But I do think AAA call ups with MLB cups of coffee are what should happen.
  14. Here's today's thread ... follow there: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/26622-game-thread-twins-v-angels-74-110-pm-cdt-1110-am-for-us-out-here/?do=findComment&comment=648046
  15. Congrats to Miguel and Ervin. I likely won't watch the game, but I'm pleased with the good representation.
  16. Game thread for Saturday, July 1.
  17. As I sat down this morning to read (edit) the game thread I was eating my breakfast. My breakfast was a toasted English muffin with peanut butter and honey on it.
  18. Wow ... that's a big decision for 20 seconds. And while you'd think most would have some idea how they'd go in that spot, it really sounds like he just wasn't prepared. I wonder ... had he gone much later, in the 3rd round as he was thinking he would, if his decision would be different?
  19. Congrats! Are you going to have a mortgage burning party?
  20. I've been impressed with both him and Royce ... they both seem very mature for their ages, both with very strong work ethics and desire. Nice interview. Thanks.
  21. Speaking of tuba concerts, the CSO is playing the soundtrack to the movie 'Jaws' this week. Our tuba player has been so excited for this ever since it was announced. His teacher played on the original soundtrack.
  22. Diving into that liquid pool of ish? Ick.
  23. Literally and figuratively that would be much appreciated from my perspective!
  24. Lol ... that's the one that makes Brian's head explode ...
