  1. And it’s just as speculative what you are saying, too. Injuries happen. Period. It’s extremely unfortunate, mostly for Royce, but it’s just as speculative to say he wouldn’t have been injured if he weren’t out there. Injuries happen. And no, he was not necessarily our future SS. I don’t agree that he would necessarily remained a SS for the reason you stated … it’s one of the most important defensive position. In equally short sample sizes, it was noticeable that Palacios was better at the position, and that Correa is better than both.
  2. I don’t think he missed the bag, to be quite honest. The fact the call wasn’t overturned resorted in very loud boos from me
  3. It’s just a game, it’s just a game, it’s just a game … ?

"It's the end of the world as we know it!  And I feel fine."

  4. Oh well, tomorrow is another day …

  5. We are down more than that … Ryan, Gray, Ober, Winder, Paddack, Dobnak and Maeda. Maeda was the only one we knew about well ahead of time.
  6. I’m sorry, but who gave up? I’m not sure I get what you are saying with that?
  7. Well, not exactly back to back with a day off between, but that’s a minor quibble, and it is a question, why there and then. But the whole BP construction is problem no. 1, usage of that BP is no. 2
  8. Joe Ryan, Sonny Gray, Bailey Ober and Josh Winder might. Seriously … I don’t blame Rocco for that. I do blame him for continuing to use Duffey in certain situations, but other than Smith (who has shown some spots recently) and Duran, the FO hasn’t given him enough to work with. But sheesh, at this point, move on from using Duffey at all when the game is tight, no matter the inning.
  9. I agree it’s not good to just dump a guy after so many years, but it’s also terrible for morale to lose games that are winnable and put them out of reach most times they are used. Move Duffey to a mop up role or when we have a commanding lead until he comes out of it, and if he doesn’t, then make the tough decision. I give it to the trade deadline
  10. Whiners are wieners

  11. This was actually stated at the press conference announcing Baldelli as the new manager. Not word for word, but this is what they said ... the like-minded ness in approach.
  12. This is something I’d think about. I don’t know who was ready or warmed up, but I guess because we had a 5-run lead they wanted to push him to work through it? But I’m glad he did eventually come out. I’m not sure I would have put him in, but with a 5-run lead, damn.
  13. I think they played a good game all around and beat a good team. Lots of things happen during a game … some we like, some we don’t. We won. That’s the bottom line, the goal. We can nitpick all we want about how it should have gone and say what they did was all wrong. But, we won so it couldn’t have been all wrong.
  14. Duran was likely going to get the 9th, too, then got hit by a pitch. There is no traditional closer in baseball anymore. That’s the game today.
  15. That’s not what he said. They are going to use Duran in high leverage situations, where you should be using your best BP pitcher. They are going to look at possible matchups and plan accordingly. If it’s the 9th, it’s the 9th. If it’s the 7th, it’s the 7th. If it’s one inning or two. The idea of a traditional closer, who only comes in to pitch the 9th is no longer a strict thing in baseball today. This isn’t a Baldelli thing or even a Twins thing, it’s a baseball thing. If Duran hadn’t been hit by a line drive yesterday, he would have been back out for the 9th. But, even so, when your team is ahead by 5 runs, you should be able to call on one of your ‘lesser’ pitchers to finish the job. Sheesh, we won. We won against a good team on a winning streak and took the wind out of their sails. We took 2 of 3 from them. We beat a pitcher yesterday who has been very good. And we did it with a decimated roster. That’s team effort from the players, managers and coaches. Well done!
  16. ha ... close to my mantra ... 'It's just a game'. I've often stated I have no control over what anyone does, so I just can't get too worked up about. Sure, during a particular game, I'm either cheering or swearing ... but then it's over, until the next game, and it's a new day, new game, new possibilities
  17. wow ... that's got to be the highest in the majors right now ... but I haven't checked. Any win is a blessing with all of those out
  18. OKAY ... ENOUGH ... YOU HAVE ALL HAD YOUR SAY ABOUT COVID AND THE VACCINES AND CHOICE AND PUBLIC HEALTH AND CANADIAN LAW. GET BACK TO BASEBALL AND QUIT GOING DOWN THESE RABBIT HOLES OF DISCUSSION. IT'S UNFORTUNATE THAT ROSTER MOVES HAD TO BE MADE, BUT IT IS WHAT IT IS. GET ON WITH IT.
  19. Because it doesn't matter in the end. Truly. It just doesn't. It's what the law is, and we have no power to change it or affect it. And it leads the discussion into the weeds, imo. <shrug> So, what do you think of those being called up to replace those who are restricted?
  20. Did I read somewhere that this is possible come playoff time? That special waivers may come into play?
  21. I don't know the whys and wherefores of Canada's law ... do you? Were you in Parliament that day? Or in Trudeau's office? Maybe on the surface it's inconsistent, but I don't know what they have based this on so I won't make a claim that is unfounded. But many countries switched their entry policies from tests proving negative, followed by quarantines to vaccination requirements. Whether or not that is inconsistent, maybe it's changed based on more knowledge and more input from professionals, of which I am not one.
  22. This year, those entering Canada are subject to random testing as well as a vaccine requirement. Many countries, not just Canada, have vaccine requirements. Some are lifting them. Last year the vaccines were just rolling out so they didn't have a requirement at the border. They do as of January. It's another country. They get to do what they want no matter how unfair it seems to some.
