  1. No, a baseball site is not an arbiter of medical information ... but we are also not an arbiter of medical misinformation. That's the point of Nick's statement. In the forums we have removed discussion on BOTH sides of this issue ... both ... not just one, so you can claim bias all you want, but you are wrong. And we have given warning points to BOTH pro and con when they get combative, confrontational, rude (or worse) and refuse to stay to the topic. This is why we don't want to even go down this road of any comments regarding covid (or other topics such as politics and racism, etc) because the conversations become, well ... not even close to baseball related and the defensiveness and meanness and judgement and whatnot come out and it's just ugly. We want to discuss baseball, so leave your crap at home. But a front-page article is out of the moderators' control. As in ... we have no control what the writers write, and then we have to struggle with the fallout, especially when it appears there is a double standard. There just isn't in this case, though. Satire isn't for everyone; and some subjects of satire definitely aren't for everyone, especially known taboo subject matter. And we hate it as much as you, trust me, probably even more; yes, more, way more. And it sucks. Because people can't just 'let it go' ... they have to become 'old men screaming at clouds.' And that's when we have to step in. To try and redirect the discussion. You have choices. You can leave it alone and choose another baseball thread to comment on. You can discuss civilly or you can scream and rant and deal with the consequences. Or you can leave the site entirely, but we'd miss you in game threads. Your choice. And I'm locking this from further comment for the time being, because I'm tired and have stuff to do and I don't trust what will continue happening.
  2. Actually, many countries, not just Canada, have the same rule.
  3. Or the starting pitcher is already on the IL. There is no need to move them to the restricted list. What I had heard, 4 pitchers, including a starter and one position player
  4. And the taxi squad isn't just for those out with Covid, but also for those who cannot make the trip to Canada. I believe the Covid rules (as far as calling up players and their status on/off the 40-man) apply? Yes?
  5. If Alacala and Canterino can add to the mix positively, that will be just like making a trade!
  6. These threads are for baseball discussion. I live downtown Chicago and understand what some of you are saying why you won't attend games. But let's leave it at that. If you want to have a more in depth discussion on social issues, police justice, riots, urban centers, the media's role ... please visit our Current Affairs club and have that discussion there. But leave these forums to baseball. It has been proven time and time and time again that we cannot remain civil when delving into these complicated issues and we end up with the train far off the tracks in a heap, spilling each others' proverbial blood along the way over our differences of opinion on these issues. These forums exist for baseball. Let's leave it at that.
  7. We had this discussion in the Twins Talk forum a week or so ago. If anyone wants to catch up with that discussion, here's the link:
  8. Despite the fact that this writer opened this article mentioning Donaldson’s altercation with Anderson, this article is about the trade and where we are now with it. This is not a discussion about whether or not Donaldson’s comments were racist. So let’s move away from that because we cannot seem to have a discussion about that without getting overly defensive and snipey with one another. Those comments will be removed going forward as you’ve all said your piece on that. Back to the trade. i was upset when Donaldson was traded, and for whom, and that it wasn’t just Donaldson but our newly acquired SS AND our catching depth. I thought this was another one-sided, horrible trade and the Yankees just found another way to beat us. But at this point in the season I’m saying ‘Donaldson who?’ I’ve always liked Donaldson as the player and always wanted him on the team for a lot of the reasons mentioned here. But that was more the Donaldson that went from Oakland to the Jays, and that’s not who he is anymore. And I think he wasn’t fairly judged or reported on by a large portion of the writers here. That said, looking back where we are right now in the season, I’m really good with the trade. I like having Correa and Urshela on the left side of the infield over K-F and Donaldson. Both Urshela and Sanchez have performed better than my expectations. But the only part of the trade that still niggles at me and that was losing Rortvedt.
  9. As someone who was excited to sign Donaldson (remembering his days in Oakland ... that's the Donaldson I wanted), and as someone who thought I'd miss him, I concur with the above statement. Haven't missed him and I think he's been replaced just fine. And welcome to TD! Nice first post ... hope to see more from you!
  10. And re-watching Max's grand slam ... I want a DQ Blizzard ... darn it ...
  11. I wonder how many of us never thought that would be something we'd be saying ... but you're right. But that's what this team has been doing ... picking it up for one another.
  12. I said this not too long ago in another thread seeing specifically the turn around in Kepler … I think I said something along the lines of ‘I think they’ve finally found Rowson’s replacement’
  13. I’m glad you’ve come around to this! Seeing is believing ?
  14. Your goat bleats and giggles? Mine screams. Literally. Yes. Screams. (Google ‘screaming goats’ and watch a couple videos … mine does that.)
  15. Welcome to TD! Jump in wherever you can, whenever you want! Look forward to seeing what you put up in this space.
  16. Gio is the most underrated Twin by this fanbase

  17. Ooooooooh .... aaaaaaah ....
  18. Then you're not doing it right
  19. Talk about mischaracterizing what I said ... I didn't say they were confused ... but when Royce did as he did, yes, they need to figure out a new plan, and that's what they are doing, and what I expect them to do. It's not a misfire, or confusion ... recalculating, yes, because I hope they are always doing that, because they should. They can't stand pat and stick to some 'almighty plan' as you suggest they are doing. I'm saying ... I don't see that, at all as you suggested.
  20. At this point, I'm not going to continue other than to say ... I don't think they've made a mistake here. At all. You seem to think it's all about some misfired plan or expectation and now they are confused. I just don't agree with your characterizations.
  21. Okay ... every scenario you pointed out is a negative reflection. I get the 'feels like' but maybe try and take a more neutral stance than the one you wanted/expected/thought should be and reevaluate a little. Yeah, no one is objective. I get that. First ... are you sure you want to use Baddoo as a comp? Where is Baddoo now after a huge break out year for him? He's regressed, a lot. I still think he can be everything he was last year, but, it's time for him to readjust and catch his breath. He will. And this was apparent in the latter half of last season. I mean, many thought that Miranda should have been with the team this year as our starting 3B after his breakout year last season, and he faltered. It doesn't indicated that he will be a bad player in the major, it just means he needs to adjust. Royce started the season in AAA with a bang, and after 11 games in the majors, did everything anyone could ever hope/want/expect. He has shown he belongs ... at some point. I think it's just way too early to christen him to the majors from here on out. Yeah, I DO get the argument of letting him play until a time he needs some adjustment (assuming that happens because it almost always does at some point). And yeah, I also get that he is more talented that those others, too, and maybe he won't need as much. I get it. You wanted him to stay based on his year this year, based on how you projected him to be. I just don't think it's a negative he was sent down. Unless we released someone or traded someone, there wasn't a spot for him. Yeah, I'd have sent Miranda down before Lewis, but, I also believe Lewis will be the one called back up when we send down our 14th pitcher. He will also be the first call if any position player has an injury ... so they want him playing every day, in multiple positions, to get him ready, because he will be back up. Second, maybe it's not about sticking to an almighty plan ... but maybe that plan has been in flux since we signed Correa. Just maybe they are trying to figure out a way to keep Correa long term. Maybe this is part of the new plan, getting Lewis ready to take over 3rd or an outfield spot because Correa is going to be our SS next year, too. What if Correa doesn't opt out? What then? So, I don't think it's about 'sticking to a plan', I think it's about ... okay, that plan is in flux and there are a lot pieces and a lot of 'what ifs' that are happening or could happen. I don't think it's a bad thing to not jerk the car around with a 180 because Lewis did so well in his 1st 11 games in the major. Maybe it's like ... whoa ... I think we need to take this exit instead and have the GSP remap the route. Third, I don't know squat. But this is just how I think of it all. I don't think Lewis going down is all that bad. Wouldn't have been my choice when it happened. But I'm also fine with the decision. Yes, the right here and now is important ... so is the planning for June, July, August and September to get us to October and November. I don't want them to be doing things because of next year ... but I think thinking as far forward as the rest of the season is definitely something I want them to do. Okay, I'm out of breath. I hate long posting.
  22. Some of the overblown, emotional outrage people express about sports I find, well, a little hilarious

"Fan" is short for "fanatic" for a reason!

Guess I'm less of a fan than most, then :)

That may be a compliment! :)

  23. Yeah. Just Kepler alone this year compared to last year. Wonder if they’ve finally found a replacement for Rowson? (Wait, we do have a new hitting coach this year, yes?)
