  1. I guess I missed it, why is Adrianza playing LF tonight? There's just no excuse for starting a light-hitting utility IF in a corner OF spot out of position in a meaningful game.
  2. Kind of sad to me that your AAA utility player is your starting DH in an important game in September and your idea of a pinch hitter is throwing out Adrianza. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of Vargas.
  3. I miss the days where the Twins had Nathan and Rincon, if they were ahead after 7 it was over. When Joe was on he was dominant. Was fun to see.
  4. I'm not sure if Kohl Stewart has made some adjustments or not, but looking at his last 8 starts he has 40 SO in his last 44 IP. While the other results have not been real great, it is encouraging to see the strikeouts moving up significantly. He's still only 22, from most reports, he still has the stuff. Hopefully he's finally figuring things out.
  5. I agree with giving Slegers a chance at this point. Now with Garcia gone and dropping rapidly out of the race, no point in wheeling Colon out there either. Personally I think Slegers is likely a AAA/AAAA starter that will fail, but he's earned at least a shot to prove otherwise.
  6. I think they should protect Thorpe, he might not make it thru again being left-handed, still relatively young, and having some success in High-A. I don't think there's a lot of danger on losing the position guys, maybe Palacios. I can't imagine somebody taking Diaz, kind of hard to stash a DH type and probably not worth it for a guy that has only played in Low-A and hasn't exactly lit the Midwest League on fire. They'll have to choose who they like best among some of their relief prospects, may lose a guy or two there.
  7. I didn't see him getting out of that inning without any damage, nice surprise.
  8. Sometimes you really wonder what Rosario has got going on in his head. That was sad.
  9. I think the Twins are more than a little short of just Garcia to carry them to a playoff spot. I wouldn't have an issue moving young guys like Ynoa as part of a package for somebody they could use beyond this year. They've been entertaining but I don't think this team is good enough to be trading away prospects for short-term rentals. Eduardo Escobar is batting clean-up tonight. That's not good.
  10. If Dozier doesn't have to try to reach around the catcher blocking the plate, he's safe (Possible he was safe anyways, it was pretty close). Slowing down the video he moves his foot over the plate prior to catching the ball. I'm not sure if that is legal or not per the rules, but personally I've never agreed with that or other position players being able to throw their knee down blocking a runner from sliding into a base. If you're standing there with the ball, fine, you can get in the way of the baserunner. If you use another part of your body to physically block a guy from touching the base only to allow more time to apply a tag just doesn't seem right to me.
  11. Maybe they're giving Gordon some time off? Seems like he's been struggling lately. Nice to see Stewart pitching well and racking up some strikeouts.
  12. I get that people want him gone, but lets look at our options at this point. Santiago, suddenly can't even throw 90 mph. He's been just as bad for a long time now. Duffy was about just as bad last year and hasn't pitched well lately. Colon was even worse this year in the NL. You can say minor league pitchers x, y, and z can replace him and perform just as good, but in reality we've seen that is just not true with the guys we've thrown out there. I would be fine with sending him to AAA again and trying other people, but if they fail even worse, such as Turley, I would rather have him to fall back on.
  13. I know a lot of people have the opposite opinion and I'm no expert but I'm still not thrilled with it. To me, if Lewis was #1 on their board, they don't get turned down by another player at basically the same bonus before selecting him. Just looking at the history of players selected at the top of the draft vs players selected at the bottom of the first round and below, it's not worth it to play games with that top pick. Hopefully they hit on one or more of those guys picked afterwards like they did on Berrios, but history shows there's a real good chance we'll never hear from them again beyond the minor league reports or as fringe major leaguers. I like Enlow at #76, but they could have just selected him at #35 or #37. I think they reached at both #35 and #37. I think Lewis is a good prospect, and I really hope he turns out great. With him I worry about the offensive side. So far he's started out ok, but he's also in the GCL. I just wouldn't take a guy that high based mostly of tools. I would never have taken Buxton back in '12 at #2 either.
  14. Still way too early to say anything on him yet. A little weary of a guy that tore up the college ranks and yet the industry was not terribly high on him. Usually that means there's some issues there. There are reasons he wasn't a top 10 pick. Let's see what he does next year in his first full season, if he's struggling in Cedar Rapids or Fort Myers then we can worry.
  15. Gibson has been a huge disappointment, 1st round pick, was once a top 50 prospect per MLB and Baseball America. I don't think he's going to succeed anymore in a Twins uniform. I think he does have the stuff to be a possible #3 starter. He just seems to lack command and confidence in his pitches or what he's doing out on the mound. He would probably benefit from a change of scenery. I could see him possibly succeeding with a different team if he clicks with the right pitching coach somewhere, he does have talent.
  16. Agreed that Gonsalves could go up to Rochester after another solid start or two. Even though not optimal for the 40-man roster I'd like to see him start a few games at the end of this season to get him a taste of MLB to give him an opportunity to see what he's in for and give him the opportunity to see what he needs to work on in the offseason.
  17. Surprising move to be sure. High level view is while he has been in the system awhile, he was a 2nd round pick, missed an entire season due to TJ surgery, probably also lost additional time being part of the grand experiment of converting relievers to starters, allegedly could throw mid-90's, had good numbers this year, and was left-handed. Obviously there must be something else, loss of velocity, injury they don't think he's going to bounce back from, something. Just hope he doesn't have one of those Alex Meyer type syndromes where he's miraculously healthy a couple weeks after he ends up on a different team.
  18. I guess that something big the Twins were planning was they saved so much money on their top 3 picks the executive lounge at Target Field will now feature a free nacho bar.
  19. I guess ability to play SS, good speed, and questionable hit tool are in such high demand maybe they should just solve their pitching problems by trading Ehire Adrianza for some young arms?
  20. This is sickening, toolsy hs SS, has massive bust written all over it. Have seen nothing about him remotely worthy of #1 consideration. To take a massive gamble on athleticism may as well just take Green or Gore. Just to have money for later slots-look at the history of picks 30-40, not much talent there, most years 1-2 players pan out. Compare this to the top 10, your key players are in the top 10 and you shouldn't mess around.
  21. Well, this sucks. I had thought his "floor" when drafted was supposed to be an elite closer. Unfortunately shows us what a "floor" truly is for a quick to the majors college player. You just never know.
  22. The more I hear on McKay the less I like. I know he's thrown a pitch here and there with more velocity but seems to work with a low 90's fastball and loses velocity as the game goes on. A large Ted Lilly doesn't sound like anyone you would want to draft #1 overall. Let's let go of the fantasy of him playing both ways, there is no chance a team is going to launch such an experiment with the #1 overall selection in the draft. I place near zero value on his bat if you draft him as a pitcher. By the time he would wash out as a pitcher he would likely be 4-5 years removed from hitting. Odds are he would reach the majors with a different team. Just my opinion but arguing for a guy due to his high floor is an argument for shooting for mediocrity. If the high floor really was legitimate I'd be ok with him, but as we've all seen from these various "quick to the majors" types the floors for prospects that get thrown around are ridiculous and most do not arrive nearly as quickly as advertised. Maybe the scouts see something else in him, maybe he's got just impeccable command of all his pitches. I just worry the margin for error is going to be a lot smaller for him.
  23. A lot to like about the pitching staff, starters and bullpen. I don't see much to get excited about with the position players. I see Vielma's ceiling as utility infielder. Gordon needs to go on the Miguel Sano diet plan. Someone get that kid a cheeseburger.
  24. Thorpe will be a guy I'll be following closely this season. I'm trying not to get too excited though, I'm guessing it has to be pretty rare to miss 2 full years and come back successfully. We may have been spoiled by Romero last year.
  25. I see him fitting in a bit better with a N.L. team. Extra outfielder, late-inning pinch runner, defensive replacement. He has 39 career doubles in 1,309 minor league AB's. I just don't see him making it as a regular, unless on a terrible team with a lot of injuries. If they ever expand the roster sizes it would be nice to carry a guy like him to steal a base late in a game or run down a fly ball in the gap.
