Hey Cowbell, it can get more serious here than Twinkie Town for sure. Also, the mods can come down on you for some bizarre topics. Criticism of certain players or team employees or even name calling in jest can earn a reprimand. (thebomisthebomb aka gintzer from Twinkie Town)

Mauer has contributed nothing postseason-wise so maybe taking a gamble at a 2002-2004 World Series run would have been worth it. It has been a long time since 1991 and a title in the early 2000s would have really dulled some pain. Mauer is a borderline HOFer so it is hard to argue against his long term impact to this franchise - it's just that it has amounted to no postseason success and no World Series titles.

Having Duke change his arm slot sounds good on paper, however, there must be a reason he hasn't dropped sidearm more often. Good catch on the arm slot differences, it will be interesting to see if the Twins picked up on it too and try to change things with Duke.

The pay is painfully low. The blogs are not promoted enough on TD. My gut instinct is that most readers/commenters are happy with the content currently on TD. If you truly want to expand the blogs and independent writers, then get a separate website for that activity (which you could link to on TD). When I come to TD today I want the good content from the strong writers about 98% of the time. The other 2% of the time I will search around and look at the blogs. If the blogs had their own separate website I could focus my time there more efficiently and effectively. Right now, it is obvious that TD does not emphasize the blogs. John Bonnes has the time to be on the radio with KFAN. While not denying him the opportunity to run his career the way he wants to, it feels hollow that he speaks of a lack of time to curate the blogs on TD while expanding his media footprint elsewhere. TD might or might not be John's #1 priority - it is obviously not his only priority and my guess is that these other media opportunites of his greatly detract from the cultivation of TD blogs.

Pitching, pitching, pitching, the Twins need pitching. What will the Boy Wonders do for 2018 or are their eyes only on 2019?

Johan's election chances have always been small, although it will be a major disappointment if he gets kicked off the ballot right away. I honestly don't see how he could drum up enough votes to ever have a legitimate chance. Could Sid stump for him?

Johan had no recognizable or memorable that anyone outside of Minnesota would remember. Johan did nothing to make a lasting impression on anybody outside of Twins fans. He did have a no hitter with the Mets, however, that is just a blip on the radar screen. Johan has no "it factor" and that obviously is hurting him on HOF ballots. Also, no postseason success hurts his chances. Joe will be interesting when he is on the ballot. Yes, a Gold Glove at first base would be a nice feather in the cap and improve his HOF chances. Does Joe have a shot at 3000 hits?

'Dude', this would be cool I just don't see it happening. Also, if it does happen that most likely means no starting pitcher of significance was signed so that would be a bummer. I would like to yell "DUDE" at Target Field every time Duda came to the plate, though.

    Bring back Jake Mauer.

Dozier needs to be somewhere on the list. Although I do not want to see him traded, he might have some value at midseason as a hired gun for a contender.

Kinley has pictures of the Boy Wonders in compromising positions.

I don't like the slide rule or even the no crashing into the catcher rule. My point was they seemed to be put there for safety. In football, they make up rules on the fly, most of the time reacting to a call that went against a team like the Packers or the Cowboys in a crucial spot the previous season.

This is just another reason why baseball is superior to football. The football rules are too arbitrary and changed on a whim. Baseball is baseball and it seems most of the recent changes in baseball are for player safety (no barreling over the cathcer, no nasty slides into second base on the double play). There is an element of making it up as we go along with football rules.

Barry Bonds should never be inducted. Yes to Johan Santana.

Sign Darvish if you can and take your best shot at a title with Sano, Buxton, Dozier, Rosario, Kepler, etc. All this fretting about what will happen in four years is for the Boy Wonders to worry about. As a fan and Twins supporter for many years, I want to see them roll the dice now. It isn't too often a Minnesota franchise really goes for it. Why not now?

The moves have been underwhelming so far. A guy who might not play in 2018 and a 41 year old closer? Not exactly setting the world on fire when looked at from a casual fan perspective. Speaking to the guys at work they are rolling their eyes and saying same old Twins. Landing Yu Darvish would put a nice bow on the offseason. I am trusting the Boy Wonders have a few tricks left up their sleeve for this offseason.

I don't remember, yet am assuming that Colon's charm and popularity played at least a small part in him getting that Cy Young over Johan. Was the "Big Sexy" nonsense a thing yet when this happened? Johan should be in the HOF (just barely, though).
  18. theBOMisthebomb
I recommend the Twins take the next Johan Santana-type success story.
  19. theBOMisthebomb
Trade an outfielder for pitching. I am too high on Buxton and Kepler so what could the Twins get with Eddie Rosario as the crown jewel of a package?

The work they do is a tough job and thankless most of the time (unless a great guy like Bonnes goes out of his way to thank them). These moderators are on top of things and it is appreciated to come to a safe place and not get butchered by trolls. Although, they did delete one of my posts where I called Dick Bremer, "a bore, a hack and an annoying homer." I thought that was a bit strict and taken in context my comments were appropriate. Oh wait, don't remove this quote of my deleted post.

Well, I have lived in small towns in Minnesota over the years and have family that still do live in small towns, so I know of what you speak. It doesn't "matter" to me, I was just stating my opinion, and going to WCCO is a downgrade for the majority of people.

Hughes is similar to the food storage we have in our basement. We own it, it's ours, we hope not to have to use although in a way we are obligated not to let it go to waste. Maybe Hughes can contribute in 2018-2019. The Twins have nothing to lose. Is he is any way a trade prospect?

Since at least 60% of the state lives in the "cities" as you call it, it seems it would make sense to me to have a station that is based in the "cities" and doesn't sound like it was from two generations ago as the flagship of the MLB team. Well, if it helps people not from the "cities" to listen to the Twins on their transitor radios that is peachy keen by me. I am a "cities" person I guess, although I don't live in Minneapolis or St. Paul. I use technology from this century, like the internet, and the FSGO app, etc. so I am not the target audience for WCCO listeners.

You are right about the Vikings. Favre across the body did it for me - I could no longer give my heart and soul to that cursed franchise and had to cash in the 10+ year season tickets. It isn't worth the agony and the elevated blood pressue. I am much happier being a dedicated fan that realizes the Vikings will never win the big one until they actuall prove the can win it - and until then I will jump on the bandwagon when appropriate and not get emotionally invested in them. As for college football, North Dakota is not relevant because they win the JV championship. They just aren't relevant no matter how many JV titles they win and how many guys they send to the NFL. Play with the big boys and start winning there and then you will be relevant. Until then, nobody outside of North Dakota really cares.

The increase in strikeouts is sickening. That being said, I had not thought of it in terms of the Twins pitching staff recording more strikeouts. Let's start sending more batters to the pine after three strikes. Is this officially the end of the 'pitch to contact' era and that Twins Way?
