  1. Swap Deduno for Pelfrey immediately. Eventually someone else will pitch their way out (Corriea) and Pelfrey can have another shot. Until then, he can give us 3 effective innings at a time out of the bullpen instead of imploding after 5 in the rotation.
  2. Rough game. Nice comeback. Burton coughs it up. I would have liked to see them move Burton. I suspect we'll see more of this. Fien will be the set-up man by May, IMO.
  3. The FSN contract and national contracts went up. The payroll went down. This more than offset the lost ticket/concession revenue. I'm not mad, but the payroll shouldn't be $85 million again. Spending even $8-10 million on a bat, any bat, would help this terrible offense immensely.
  4. It's not that bad...but there's no explanation for it. He cleared waivers, what was the harm of stashing him at AAA or even at AA and seeing what happens? Otherwise, why not just release him a week ago and be done with it? $$? The payroll is $20 million less than what they claim it could be. Don't give me $$.
  5. Why can't Mauer be the emergency catcher? How often have we had to use one? Ever? If Mauer has to catch 2 innings a year due to some weird circumstance that's a non-starter? Really?
  6. This is ridiculous. Catch Pinto twice a week. DH him twice a week. That's plenty of AB's. The odds of Suzuki getting hurt in the 50 games Pinto DH's is unlikely. If it does happen, for pete's sake we have a 1B who's caught a few hundred games. Having him catch a few innings in an emergency is not a problem. Good lord.
  7. 98.5% of Twins fans will never know or care about this PR 'disaster'. Folks like those who post on this board are the only ones who will care.
  8. Lineup: 2B: Dozier SS: Escobar 1B: Mauer LF: Willingham RF: Arcia 3B: Plouffe DH: Parmalee/Collabello CF: Hicks C: Sazuki/Pinto Bench: Pinto/Sazuki Colabello/Parmalee Pressley Bernier or Barlett Put Florimon on the DL for a bit, let's see what Escobar can do. If he hits at all, Florimon comes up and is the utility guy. Pitchers: Nolasco Hughes Corriea Pelfrey Gibson Bullpen: Perkins Burton Fien Duensing Thielbar Swarzak Deduno Wouldn't mind if they trade Corriea and put Deduno in the rotation, but seems unlikely
  9. It looks like they're really going with Kubel at DH? If so, there's not much upgrade in putting him in LF so Willingham can DH. I'd like to see them keep Parmalee and Collabello for DH. In that case, Parmalee could play LF when he plays and Willingham could DH at least some of the time. Either way it's a marginal upgrade. If Pressley/Mastro hadn't had terrible springs, Hicks in LF would be an option.
  10. If anything they should be fielding offers for Corriea not looking to add a left-handed Corriea. Huge pass.
  11. From what they are saying, TJ was never seriously considered until mid-November. If he'd had it then, he almost certainly wouldn't have seen MLB in 2014. The only difference is he might have gotten 1-2 months in a AA/AAA. That part is not a tragedy.
  12. The Twin's luck blows. Even when they have nice things (Mauer, Sano) they get hurt and have the beginning of their careers F'd up. That said, this would have been far worse a year from now. It's shocking that once again 'rest and rehab' failed the Twins in epic fashion. That never happens.
  13. You're right. This isn't the NFL. There's no salary cap. The Twins had a payroll of $110 million in 2011. Their local and national TV revenue has gone up significantly since then. They can easily afford a $110-120 million dollar payroll in 2015 and 2016. So no, I don't think Drew causing them to at $95 million in 2015, or 15% lower than their payroll 4 years s earlier should cause them issues. There's zero reason to worry significantly about the payroll, unless you're a Pohlad heir. And Chief is right, they'll be reluctant to give Jon Lester a big contract. But they'll almost equally reluctant if the payroll before doing so is $85 or $95 million. They always say the money is there for a player if they need it and they tend to view each offer in a vacuum. The payroll could be $30 million and Terry Ryan would not vastly overpay for a FA. It's against his religion.
  14. What % of second round picks pan out? 10%? We have a black-hole at SS, no long-term answer in the pipe that would be blocked and an $83 million payroll. There's really no excuse for not doing it, IMO. If Drew doesn't pan out, we're out a 2nd round pick and some money would wouldn't otherwise spend.
  15. This. The offense looks terrible right now, and Florimon is the darkest of the black holes in the line up. And there is no Buxton or Sano coming at SS. We have a need now and for the next couple years and a chance to address it. To pass on filling such an obvious hole over a second round pick is why I can't stand Terry Ryan sometimes. Always worrying about a tomorrow that never comes.
  16. Florimon is never going to hit well enough to be an every-day player on a decent team. And there doesn't seem to be any sure-things in the minors at SS. If there's a position that screams to be addressed via FA trade, it's SS. The payroll is at $83 million, they could certainly afford to sign Drew or make an offer for Jimmy Rollins.
  17. Phil Rogers ranks the Twins in the top 5. Shows how much these lists are worth. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/phil-rogers-washington-nationals-minnesota-twins-score-high-marks-on-offseason-report-card?ymd=20131231&content_id=66251300&vkey=news_mlb
  18. If they do sign Arroyo, I would think/hope Corriea is traded.
  19. The first time they block a starter in AAA who is truly ready because they want more starts out of Corriea/Pelfrey, I'll worry. There's one spot open now. There will be another by June 1st. Everyone who's deserving will still get their shot. And as for leaving no money for a bat, the current payroll is ~$83 million. Exactly the same as last year and $20-$25 million less than 2011. If we're out of money to spend, Jim Pohlad should be ashamed of himself.
  20. Suzuki is OK. But are folks just writing off Doumit catching? I'd much rather let him platoon with Pinto and go find a RH bat to platoon with Kubel at DH.
  21. We're willing to end up with Collabello at 3rd all for the sake of De Aza? There's guys in FA who could easily give us what he will. Plouffe is more valuable, period.
  22. I don't hate it, but if his signing means we don't get Garza or Arroyo I'm not a fan. Even when he's pitching 'well' he's a human rain delay, which I think explains some of the hate.
  23. Darrin Mastrianni says hi. Davis is more proven, but what Mastro does all of the above for cheaper. I know last year was a wash-out but I think he'll bounce back fine.
  24. Doumit's agent reiterated that he's fine to catch in 2014. Given that, I don't get the concern for a catcher. If we're going after Rajai Davis, Doumit won't be DH'ing as much. Let Doumit and Pinto split time at catcher with Hermann as the 3rd/bench guy.
  25. Unless he's going to start in CF, I'm not sure I understand this too much. I'm reasonably comfortable with a Pressley/Mastro platoon in center (or Hicks if he lights it up.) Davis has not been a regular CF'er since 2010 so I have to imagine he's either being looked at as a 4th OF'er or they intend to DH Willingham.
