    I hope there's room in the budget for both the obvious (Machado) and creative solutions. I think we both agree this team needs star power. Machado fits the bill! Creative ways to lure him to Minnesota: - Front loading the hell out of his contract where he sees a majority of it upfront. - Give him opt outs every season after year 3 of the contract. That way if this team crashes and burns, he can get out of here. - Give him the Bobby Bonilla contract and defer payments to him well beyond his playing career.

    This is a defining off-season coming up for Falvine. More financial flexibility and prospects to trade than I can ever recall. I want them to put their stamp on this team and be BOLD. The boldest move they could do is recruit and sign Machado. Front load the hell out of that contract and give him $60 million next year if that's what it takes. Be creative. Be bold. Put your stamp on this organization Falvey.

    Couldn't agree more. I posted in one of the other Dozier threads he's going to thrive without needing to be the star of the team. I would be rejuvenated too if I was traded on a team that made the WS last season.

    Was it worth getting these guys right now at the expense of taking a drop from Dozier to Forsythe? Don't we have some other guys in AA that should be up in AAA as soon as April 2019 like Rooker, Weil, etc?

    If you read the rest of my post you will see I question where this person fits into the organization. We're not going to agree on this so I'm moving on.

    Fair. I don't think the Twins needed the 2 prospects from LA regardless. I could live with the swap of Dozier for Forsythe if the prospects were worth it. These 2 don't sound like they are. IMO of course.

    Certainly. No outlet or scout is right all the time. From the limited reading I've done on this guy, there are outcomes ranging from everyday OF with 20 HR potential to a stiff 1B with limited MLB upside. He'll probably be somewhere in the middle. So where does he fit in here? I don't see him moving ahead of Granite, Wade, Cave, etc. as a 4th OF. I don't see him moving ahead of Sano, Mauer, Rooker, Morrison, or Austin as a 1B/DH. I've been wrong before and will continue to be wrong. This just doesn't look good.

    As a general rule of thumb we should cheer for the Twins to get the better part of a trade. So I care. And this trade looks like a clear loss right now.

    Other people on Fangraphs don't believe in Raley and say he struggles recognizing/hitting breaking balls. He is ranked #64 out of 65 on Fangraphs' recent article "Ranking the Prospects Traded at the Deadline" https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/ranking-the-prospects-traded-at-the-deadline-2/

    Possible I guess. Not likely. They sound like players a team can pick up at any point in the off-season. Nothing worth taking an obvious down grade from Dozier to Forsythe.

    The problem is the return is worse than keeping Dozier. They swapped Dozier for a worse 2B making the same money on a rental deal, and 2 players that aren't special and probably won't factor into any plans for Minnesota. The other trades you can squint and see what Falvine was trying to accomplish. This trade is a head scratcher.

    Bravo Tom! Thank you for combining all trades into one article and where they slide into the organization. I concur with your thoughts and grade on the Dozier trade... There was no financial advantage nor any upside to the deal. I didn't think Lynn could be given away... so acquiring 2 living baseball players is a plus! It's taken a while to develop a bullpen arm as good as Pressly. I don't think he'll be simple to replace.

    Somebody's gotta do it to justify Dick N Bert's livelihood. My fair weather approach is applied to all sports I like. If the team is good I'm all in. If it's a lost season I find other things to watch.

    We can only hope that's the case. If they want a quick bounce back to contention it needs to happen. Everyone loves their new shiny toys but they can certainly afford to lose a couple of prospects now.

    I could see them signing someone like Annibal Sanchez again and actually sticking with it. More or less AAA depth that won't kill the team if he has to start 3-4 games in a row for them.

    My thought when I typed that is if the Twins find themselves in contention in 2019 they should be the ones trading for rentals. We don't always have to be the team to sell pending FAs.

    I'll continue to read the wonderful game recaps on this website to stay up to date. I will not watch more than a few innings the rest of the season.
