    Thanks for pointing out the examples. 6 to 4 trade to draft. Everyone is going to have their own definition of a pitching pipeline and I frankly don’t care where they came from. What we need is a true success story as a draft and develop guy and that hasn’t arrived yet after 5 years (2020 withheld). Ober and Winder are almost there but both have their fair share of injury history. Neither have topped 100 innings in a professional season.

    Why would it take twice the time to make up? And why doesn’t it appear that it’s effected other teams? There are tons of excellent young starting pitchers in the MLB today.

    A pitching pipeline can and should come from every avenue. Trade, waiver wire, draft, and international FA. Falvey and Levine made a savvy move acquiring Joe Ryan in the Nelson Cruz trade and deserve credit for it. At the very least he’s a backend starter and likely a mid rotation starter. The frustrating part of the pipeline is having a draft and develop example. Which Cleveland has several examples in the last decade who have become top of the rotation weapons. Every organization has a David Festa-esque player who does very well in the low minors because they are a 23 year old player. I’m not celebrating that if/when that player becomes a multi year mid rotation starter.

    I was trying to be nice… And perhaps Brooks Lee gets a bump to raise the ranking. Still, not even a little gutted?

    They had the 23rd ranked farm system on mlb.com at the mid season mark. Then traded away 4 of their top 5 draft selections in the 2021 draft in the last calendar year. Not even a little gutted? I’d bet they’re no more than 20th in 2023 preseason rankings.

    Those 2-3 weeks before the shutdown was the highest amount of activity baseball has seen in years. For some reason, Falvey and Levine were asleep at the wheel when every top starting pitcher was signed before the lockout.

    SS Noelvi Marte was the 11th rated prospect in baseball as the headliner. Along with an 18 year old toolsy SS and 2 intriguing arms. 3 of Seattle’s top 5 prospects in a better rated system than ours. Not including Royce Lewis like you suggest would have been a non starter. Even including him wouldn’t have gotten it done.

    I’ll forever be a box score junkie, but I have very little desire to see this team in person or on TV for the rest of the season.

    The only thing I’m certain about 2023 on September 19, 2022 is we have a lot of work to do. Bringing back the same core of players, manager and FO included, is not what I’d call a recipe for success. Something has stunk with this franchise for a long time now.

    The fans benefit the most, if the rules are strictly enforced. The pitch clock should eliminate 4.5 hour 9 inning games entirely. Banning extreme shifts in the IF will provide a more aesthetically pleasing experience.

    Concur. Jose Miranda may be the only Twins player to surpass 70 RBI this season. The last time the Twins only had 1 player with 70+ RBI was 1999. Marty Cordova led the team with exactly 70 RBI. This year was set up to be a real feast or famine lineup. More often than not we’ve seen famine, especially in clutch situations with RISP. If our pitching wasn’t great at the beginning of the year we would likely be 5-10 games under .500 right now. The offense has never held up their side of the bargain this season.

    When 29 out of 30 teams are on identical playing fields with analytics, you need something else to separate yourself from the pack. More intangible things like development, targeting breakout players in FA/draft/waivers, diversifying types of pitchers, etc. Falvey and Levine were instrumental bringing the Twins to the 21st century with data and technology. They have a poor track record with trades and free agent signings. Developing their own pitching pipeline has been a mess.

    Twins Daily is certainly carrying the water for Twins ownership today. This and Nick’s article should solidify your press passes working next year at Spring Training. We’ve seen 2 examples that caused Jim Pohlad to act and make a change in the FO. The total system failure in 2016, and Billy Smith spending on a top 10 MLB payroll missing the playoffs. Falvey and Levine bumped up the payroll in 2022 to $145 million. We’re on pace to finish below .500, with Target Field half empty all season. We will see if losing money sparks some urgency to make a change… If the Twins are really going to keep status quo, next year is going to be more of the same. Half filled Target Field and casual fans checking out of another season.

    First time it cratered was the mid-June series with Cleveland when Pagan blew multiple games. Then it rose at the trade deadline. And cratered to an all time low this week.

    All of the banked wins from April through the end of May are gone. May 25th was the first time the Twins were 10 games over .500. They’ve been performing like a 90 loss team since that date.

    Is this game recap available in commemorative print, PDF, or NFT? Seeing the Twins finish the game with more runs than the Yankees is a rare sight to behold.

    The time is now for the Gophers to make the Big 10 title game. The schedule is never going to be easier than it is right now. Iowa looks terrible, and we’ve got the monkey off our back winning against Wisconsin. Tons of experience on this team, with Morgan and Ibrahim as 6th year seniors. I would have liked to see Morgan air it out more in the 1st game… I fear the only thing he can read on the field is the RPO slant pass.

One day a sports psychologist is going to write a book and make good money about the Twins collectively pooping the bed the second they see Yankees pinstripes. It’s diseased. Also, I’ve seen plenty of Austin Davis to last a lifetime. DFA him and call up Evan Sisk from AAA.

    Yep. Enough time has passed from the lost development season of 2020. This was the first year where it’s totally reasonable to judge the quality of the prospect and pitching pipeline. The FO gave every indication that this was the plan all along by only signing Bundy, Archer, and Joe Smith. Then reality hit that Correa would actually sign here, and they changed course by trading for Sonny Gray. Even so, if we were privy to see the 2022 plan, they’d probably want Bundy and Archer to be serviceable until June, when guys like Balazovic/Sands/Winder could take over full time. We know how things turned out. I don’t know why the goalposts keep moving a year later to analyze the FO. Do I actually think the Pohlads will move on from them? No. But I’m ready to move on. I don’t think they’re the duo to deliver on their promises of building a sustainable contender, and develop a strong pitching pipeline.

    Garlick went 0-7 with 5 ks in the double header. He may just be a platoon guy.

    The lone positive was Louie Varland pitching well in his debut. Happy for him. Tim Laudner said on the post game “I don’t know if it’s in their heads…” talking about the Twins’ lack of success against the Yankees. I don’t know how it isn’t all in their heads at this point. They are 2-20 at Yankee Stadium since 2015. Likely 2-21 later tonight. Laying eggs against the Yankees is a tradition that hasn’t been overcome by hundreds of players, multiple FO regimes, or 3 managers.

    #1: The pitching pipeline depleting due to injury or performance. Winder, Ober, Alcala, Canterino, etc. getting injured for long periods of time. Balazovic and Sands taking massive steps back in AAA. #2: Emilio Pagan. Not even Alex Colomé single handedly caused as many losses as Pagan in a Twins uniform. #3: Alex Kirilloff. His career is at risk with his wrist injuries. We may never know if he’ll reach his star potential. #4: Miguel Sano. The last 3 seasons have been incredibly frustrating watching him play. Good riddance. #5: Derek Falvey. Trading for 2 high injury risk pitchers and both of them getting injured within 2-3 weeks after acquiring them.

    Did the Twins trade for a damaged goods pitcher again? Yikes. Didn’t turn on the game until I got a notification on my phone that Cease had a no hitter through 8. Perfect timing to see Nick Gordon get pummeled on the mound in the 9th. No hard feelings there… I want every team in baseball to embarrass any position player pitching.
