    If this game doesn’t highlight the extremes of Twins baseball, I don’t know what will. Excellent offense, terrible bullpen, brain farts on the base paths, and players who had the day off getting one under any circumstance. It’s July 6th and there’s a ton of work to do fixing the bullpen Falvey and Levine. Time is ticking. 2 back end bullpen arms are needed at a minimum.

    I’m game. I’m also setting the over/under of 0.5 games before someone complains about the robot and hammering the under. Tonight, I’d like all 9 of our players to bunt in their 1st PA. Damn the numbers, I’ve got a gut feeling at least one of them will end up a hit.

    His gut feel could have been to take him out before things got dicey. Bundy is a back of the rotation starter, after all.

    2 biggest buzz kills today was Correa sawing off half of his bat grounding into a double play. And Celestino grounding out to 1B with 2 on base in the 8th inning. Disappointing that Buxton wasn’t available even in as a sub. That was a critical point in the game that made all the sense in the world to PH Buxton.

    The Sano situation is like when you’ve been living with a significant other and break it off. Both of you have lined up to sign a lease at separate apartments, but there’s 2 months left on your current lease.

    There is almost 0 chance this will be the same bullpen tomorrow. Everyone is shot. An immediate sub that can be done is DFA Thornburg and add Ian Hamilton to the MLB team. Evan Sisk is Rule 5 eligible this offseason and probably worth a look to see if he needs a 40 man spot. I’m not exactly thrilled to see Cano or Minaya again, but desperate times call for desperate measures I suppose.

    My translation, that @wsnydeswill appreciate, is Pagan hits them long and straight on the driving range. Once he steps on the 1st tee, his drive is sliced, chunks it in the rough, and ends up with a triple bogey.

    I’ll still beat the drum to move Archer to a bullpen role. I get why they haven’t done so, with most of his incentives tied to getting 9+ outs in appearances.

    We’ve had enough games against Cleveland to know that the Twins are likely the better all around team. Just makes it annoying that Pagan alone narrows the gap. Winder was excellent today. Bundy should be sweating over keeping his role in the rotation, because Winder is ready to take it from him. Welcome back Jorge Polanco! And hey, who would have guessed Arraez can also hit left handed pitchers?

    Much needed break for the the bullpen tonight. We needed a blow out win to remember the AL Central has belonged to the Twins for some time now.

    Concur. End of thread. No reason to willingly guarantee someone’s mid 30s seasons unless they are HOF bound.

    Good list with a small correction. Enlow is already on the 40 man. I’d add him to the list of people on the 40 who could be dropped in the offseason.

    I would love to hear it as well. Unfortunately I think we’ll get a quick acknowledgment and good luck to him from the FO and Baldelli. Vikings fans just learned this year why Norv Turner left mid season in 2016 once the GM and Head Coach were fired. Unless Falvey, Levine, or Baldelli are out the door too they’re not going to air the dirty laundry.

    I would rather see 71 year old Tom Kelly in Zubas as a stogie in his mouth feeding the pitching machine instead of position players throwing 40 MPH floaters. If I were at Target Field and saw Nick Gordon warming up on the mound, I’d walk to the car.

    I’m not sure position players will hurt their arms when they’re throwing 45 MPH floaters to home plate. I would love to see a team decide to bat around and score 20 runs because a position player is in there. Because the way things are trending, it’s making a mockery of the game. We’re better off having a concede/forfeit rule in place than continue seeing position players pitch every week.

    Multiple times today I was bracing for the worst. Still can’t believe Joe Smith wiggled his way out of the 7th unscathed. - Excellent start by Smeltzer. 6+ innings in 6 of his 8 starts. Keep it up! - Nice to be back tied for the division lead - Cleveland’s true colors will be showing soon. Good luck navigating through 7 double headers with a 13 pitcher staff.

    There was a time in baseball history where throwing in the towel and using a position player to pitch was a rare sight to see. Heck, I’m sure people tuned in to witness the comedy and see a position player actually try on the mound. For example, Jeff Francour pitching 2 innings in 2015, topping out at 88 MPH and mixing in 4 different pitches to boot. Or Ichiro Suzuki taking the craft seriously, throwing 87 MPH and mixing in 3 different pitches during his outing in 2015. And of course, Willians Astudillo who threw mid 70s and the infamous 40 something MPH eephus. Back in 2011, we only saw 8 appearances by position players on the mound. The number has exploded in recent years. 2017: 65 2018: 78 2019: 90 2020: 50 2021: 95 2022: 23 as of June 1. Can’t find exact number up to June 23 It’s also not just the sheer number of position players pitching that’s making this once novelty incredibly boring. The way they’re now pitching is 10 year old little league status. If position players are now being informed not to try at all on the mound and throw 40 MPH floaters, what are we doing here? It’s no longer entertainment. The problem is only going to continue getting worse with the rule in place to have a max of 13 pitchers on staff. Teams will continue to throw the white flag down or up by 6 runs to save their bullpen arms for another game. Paying fans will watch professional baseball players lob pitches 40 MPH for an inning or 3. And the product will suffer.

    The highs and lows during this game was crazy. Really disappointing that 10 runs wasn’t enough to win. Even more disappointing that the bullpen gave up 7 runs from the 7th inning on. I still hold the belief that Cleveland is playing extremely lucky baseball and it’s not going to last throughout the summer. It will all even out. The question is, can we cobble together a bullpen internally and keep the ship from sinking over the next month?

    He gave it a ride but wasn’t enough to win it. The middle of the order had a bad night, and it was amplified in extra innings. If Correa or Kepler hits a fly ball to the OF we walk away with the win.

    I’d go up to 8 years and include any opt outs or vesting options necessary. I’d also feel pretty comfortable with the FO or future FO getting out of the contract before the 8 years are up.
