Agreed. The bar is so low to win the FS job over Bynum. 1st round safeties tend to contribute immediately…
What I’m interested in seeing later on is if Kwesi cuts his draft picks sooner than Spielman when it’s obvious it isn’t working.
Not going to pretend like I watched the whole preseason game… I just watched a couple of series in the first half.
The Good:
- Ivan Pace Jr has a knack for the ball and isn’t afraid to blow up blockers to get to the ball.
- Ty Chandler is taking his opportunity and running away with it. He looks like a lock to be the #2 RB.
- Jordan Addison had some nice catches.
The Bad:
- Interior OL still looks shaky. As does the OL depth
- McBride had a bad first impression. Looks more like a practice squad player.
The Ugly:
- Andrew Booth Jr. flat out looks bad. He is trending towards being a bust draft pick.
- So does Lewis Cine. I am very concerned about these 2 players making any impact for the Vikings.
Yep. My first Twins memory was some crap team in the late 90s when Bob Tewksbury was on the team and starting. The 2002 team was the first Twins team that captivated my attention. The beginning of Johan’s dominant peak!
Nothing rivals the incredible comeback in the 2nd half of 2006. They’re the team I think of when I’m ready to write off a Twins team and think maybe not?
I mean, they have an immediate need for a 1B, and they give the reps to a guy who needs to be put back on the 40 man over another perfectly capable player already on the 40 man. You’re right, it’s baffling.
Every time there’s a slight bit of positive momentum, this team makes sure to cut that out immediately and lose series to terrible teams… I suppose that’s just what .500 teams do.
I would argue just about any professional baseball player can pick up a 1B mitt and ramp up quickly to play passable defense. We just witnessed it last year with Gold Glove award winning 1B Luis Arraez.
Do you think Pace will get his snaps in the middle? I thought he’s an edge rusher.
Boy, that’s a young, potentially bad CB room. Career defining seasons ahead for Booth Jr, Evans, and Williams.
I have minimal interest seeing Buxton again until he can play in the field. Ideally; the staff puts together a plan for him to play CF short time for a playoff run. If he can’t play this year; then move forward with a plan (likely involving a major surgery) to get him on the field in 2024.
It’s crazy to think how much college football has changed since this thread began in 2015. It’s basically professional sports with NIL deals and the alignment of super conferences. All geography considerations being thrown out the window.
The sport is quickly transitioning to a 2 conference league. I’d guess in the next 5 years we’ll be down to 40 ish universities that can compete financially in the super conferences and the rest won’t matter. I have my doubts the Gophers can keep up in the future.
There really is no excuse why the Twins can’t win the division by 10+ games. Also, this team makes way more sense with Buxton on the IL and not clogging up the DH spot.
Exactly. Gallo was a reasonable gamble to hopefully bounce back to a 4 WAR ish player and either flip him for prospects or keep him for a playoff stretch. Neither of those things happened and he’s been mostly a disaster since his hot 2 week stretch in April.
