5 days before the deadline, and the Angels are 52-49. 3.5 GB in the wild card, 6.5 GB in the AL West. Heating up a bit, going 7-3 in their last 10 games. In recent days, Baltimore and Tampa became the front runners to acquire Ohtani. Both organizations have highly rated systems and enough top 100 prospects to make something work. All of that said, I still don’t see the Angels trading Ohtani. They’re never going to get full value in a trade for the best player on planet Earth. This is a type of trade that defines legacies for GMs. I think too much is at stake, and they keep him to try and make the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

The first name I would ask about as an opposing GM is Kirilloff. He would be the most expensive to acquire, but you know they’re asking.

All I’ve been asking for all season is scoring more runs consistently. 5 runs was the magic number and odds are they will win a lot more games than they lose. Now that might be looking more like a reality.
