  1. I’m afraid you’re going to be right. I hope Joe Pohlad does have it in mind to fire the FO if they miss the playoffs again.
  2. Gotta love when a reliever with a 10.22 ERA mows down the top of our lineup with ease.
  3. Yeah, it was nice to see the offense be okay for a stretch of time. The offense today is what I’ve seen more often that not over the first 90 games. Wouldn’t surprise me if we hear from Rosenthal and other National guys that The Twins are open for business after this game.
  4. This team is certainly doing their best to force Falvey’s hand to sell. I don’t know how you can possibly look at buying trades if we get swept by KC.
  5. Hunter agrees to the band aid contract. Works for me.
  6. Both of these teams have essentially bought their teams over the last couple of years. It’s interesting to see the strategy work out well in Dallas, and disastrously in Queens.
  7. The Hader situation is nearly identical to ours with Sonny Gray. A team trading for him will need to make the return more valuable than a QO draft pick. So, as we’ve reasoned in other Gray trade discussions, a draft pick in the 40 ish overall range is like a borderline top 100 prospect. I don’t think 20-25 innings from Hader is worth someone like Raya or Emmanuel Rodriguez.
  8. Good topic! I would not stake my professional reputation on this year’s team doing damage in the playoffs. We’re not one good bat or arm away, so that eliminates any splash moves like Soto, Goldschmidt, etc. I’m seeking talent with ideally 1.5 years or more of control. Open to all varieties of trades… The roster flexibility trades such as moving a LH hitting OF for a catching prospect. The selling trades such as moving one of our pitchers on an expiring contract for prospects. And the minor buying trades like players unlikely to make the 40 man roster for a bullpen arm. As I typed that out I think my theme presenting this to the Pohlad family is balance. We have a gluttony of talent at certain positions (cOF, 2B/3B) and sparse at other positions (C, CF).
  9. I like this development. If there are that many buyers, then the Twins should zag the other direction. There is no other team to fear in the AL Central. I would call every team in the AL East and SEA/HOU/TX. See who is starving for pitching and willing to overpay for Gray or Maeda.
  10. With nothing to go on but a gut feeling, I think there will be a trade completed today before Polanco is activated.
  11. The only spice I would seek this year is shopping the guys on expiring contracts. They might get blown away by an offer from a pitching starved team.
  12. Ask and you shall receive… MLBTR - Marlins Show Interest in Tim Anderson
  13. Buxton activated from paternity leave, Larnach sent back to St. Paul But really, I’m most curious about the upcoming transaction when Polanco is activated.
  14. Agreed. Over the last decade if we bet the under on Angels wins every year we would have our mortgages paid off. I don’t blame them for taking this path… No one in baseball wants to be known as the executive who traded away the modern day Babe Ruth. That’s a legacy defining move. If the Angels don’t acquire a star player, that GM isn’t getting another chance to be a GM.
  15. From the White Sox perspective, I wouldn’t hesitate selling off anyone not named Luis Robert on their MLB team. Who cares if the rotation is 5 Aaron Sanchez types for the last 2 months? They’re way out of it.
  16. I give Falvey credit for not investing further into a sunk cost if they didn’t believe they could fix Lopez. Terry Ryan would have milked every day of control Jorge Lopez had before giving up.
  17. They don’t have much of a choice but to go for it this year. There’s no way to get fair value in a trade for the best player on the planet, even when he’s a rental. Selling Ohtani also brings a huge risk of alienating and losing their fan base.
  18. Arte Moreno can’t help himself by going for it this season. Ohtani has been taken off the trade market, and the Angels will try to make the playoffs for the first time since 2014. To bolster their postseason hopes - they're currently four games out of the final Wild Card spot - they've added Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez from the White Sox. On the other hand, the White Sox begin their fire sale. Who else could leave their organization in the coming days? This changes the dynamic of the trade deadline considerably. Many executives and insiders mentioned how Ohtani was holding up lower-octane trades and decisions. Now that the best baseball player has been taken off the market, expect to see the floodgates open in the coming days. View full rumor

  20. Joey Gallo was a 4.7 bWAR player in 2021. Even though I hate his style of hitting, it made sense why Falvey chased the upside. Nothing wrong with gambling on 2022 being a fluke and rebounding back to a 3-4 WAR player. We could have kept him for a playoff run, or flip him for a decent return… Whelp, that hasn’t happened. He’s a replacement level player, and time is up. Do the right thing, Falvey.
  21. I’m out of the loop on a tragic diagnosis for his son reading through these comments. I was confused by the trade from a baseball standpoint. But this trade appears to be more of a personal life decision that both GMs agreed to do. Kudos to all involved.
  22. Wow. They gave up Lopez and his 2024 arb 3 season for a rental reliever.
  23. The options are pretty limited. DFA Joey Gallo or Donnie Barrels. Option Castro, Wallner, or Julien. Roll with a 12 man pitching staff and option Sands or Winder. I know what I would do. It’s time…
