  1. You are correct that it's nearly impossible to be stopped for speeding.... The date: May 2014. I was cruising on I-35 somewhere between Dallas and Austin, traveling 88 in a 70. I look back and see a State Trooper gaining traction on me in the side mirrors (the car was filled to the brim with stuff I was moving down from MN). Brand new, less than 24 hours in my new state, I thought "oh ****, I can't afford a fine right now." I signaled to the right lane and slowed down, anticipating the cherry lights to flick on. INSTEAD, the trooper kept right on moving, going well above 90 MPH, and the sweat stopped dripping down my face.
  2. I think it's still fair and valid to have those discussions with your buddy about player performance and whether or not he should still be on the team. Pro athletes know their performances on the field are filmed, stats are recorded, and compared to athletes internally and externally. Shouldn't be different than questioning whether Bill on the sales team is doing enough to keep his job. His "stats" are recorded in salesforce and brought to light at the sales meeting on Monday morning. Bill outside of work may be rescuing puppies and donating all of his earnings to charity...still valid to question what he's paid to do.
  3. Luckily you can find a couple of safe sanctuaries online with integrity and policies in place to comment on your interests. TD is certainly that for me. I couldn't tell you how many times I've typed in a comment for political/sports discussions on social media, and deleted it all. There's too much stupid involved in social media that it's not worth the trouble.
  4. If the argument to keep Buxton in AAA for the short term is to get him back up to speed, fine, I can live with that. If the argument to keep Buxton in AAA is because of his previous stats and not earning it, that's where I disagree. If we took a poll of all TD posters, the typical range we would see on wins this season would be between 75-85 wins. That's not going to be enough for the playoffs even on the high end of that scale. I would rather sacrifice a couple of wins this year by giving Buxton the at bats and MLB experience to hit the ground running in 2016. Otherwise what's the topic going to be going into next year? I can already see the articles in the Star Tribune now.... Buxton has less than 100 ABs in the MLB..... he's not ready to be the full-time starter. Someone equivalent to Jordan Schafer gets signed to handle the RF or CF position until early June.
  5. The real question that relates towards the Buxton dilemma. Where do you view this team? Do you think they can get through this slump and still be contending in September? Or did you wave the white flag and it's over? If it's the latter, then Torii should begin the decline in playing time to make room for younger talent. A 39 year old should not have the most playing time out of all OF options on a non-contending team.
  6. Jobs with the highest job security in 2015, Ranked: - Minnesota Twins General Manager - Pope - Supreme Court Judge - Dictator of North Korea
  7. Well done jaimedude, there lies my frustrations with this team. Just a few short weeks ago, we were pretenders with a contenders record. Hence why there was a lot of debate on making a splash at the trade deadline, or making minor moves. Even the more conservative approach posters (not on the Tulo bandwagon) wanted more than just an acquisition of Jepsen. Flash forward to today, and literally ALL of our banked wins from May are gone. Now that the cards are shown, the Twins are folding their hand the rest of the way. Now should be the time to get rid of the old, and in with the new. But here we are, still in the middling gray area between contending, and rebuilding. Instead of choosing a direction and going with it, TR and the FO stalled out the car, and that's the most frustrating part.
  8. I can only speak for myself and not the other posters, but I'm beyond the point of restoring this already-sunk season. I want to see him get as many at bats as possible the rest of the way and build some momentum going into 2016. My fear is he'll only get a couple of weeks playing part time, and claim going into next season he's not ready and stay in AAA for April-May 2016.
  9. This all sounds so familiar... http://twinsdaily.com/topic/18449-arcia-optioned-to-rochester/ We all sounded so confident that it would be a matter of weeks at the most until we saw him again.....
  10. It's getting exhausting ripping every decision that TR makes, but he deserves every rip towards him. Are we ever going to get away from this gray area of not contending, yet not rebuilding? Doesn't matter what side of the fence you were on before at the deadline, win now or wait; This is a terrible move to still employ Robinson and demote him.
  11. Is there any other reaction to this than LOL what a joke?!
  12. 100% on board with that. I didn't watch his last start, but from what I read he was having troubles with velocity barely getting it to 90 MPH? If that's the case, let him rest, rehab, whatever he needs to do to get right again next season.
  13. From the Twins? Or another team? Haven't we learned that we only got 2, MAYBE 2 and a half months of good Pelfrey out of 3 possible years?
  14. The month of May feels like so long ago. If Cleveland can't be the slump buster next week, it's going to be a long month of negativity.
  15. Not sure, but I do know the Blue Jays are 10-1 since the Tulo trade. Weren't they worse than us at the time and foolishly spending money doing so?
  16. Contest: drink of choice to forget about this afternoon game? Me: Deep Eddy's Lemon Vodka chilled.
  17. So most Sundays I go to my local watering hole to enjoy a cocktail or 3, and watch the Twins. Today someone requested to put NASCAR on a TV, so the bartender asked "Is anyone watching the Indians game?" I was too embarrassed to say something, so I'm letting NASCAR take precedent over this garbage today.
  18. AND we're back! Before I go back to the phone lines, I have to give this PSA.... Don't buy a ladder and specifically use it to window peep. You MAY get caught by concerned neighbors, and the police MAY get involved. Anyways, back to the phone we go. You're on Minnesota Twins Whine Line, hello?
  19. Bark, how do you like the new intern? I found him playing MLB The Show 15 at Target, and knew I had to get his opinion. The only people I trust for insider baseball knowledge are gamers.. They've actually played games as these players! Window peeping is one of my favorite things to do! Living in an apartment has some hidden perks, 400 windows to peep with a sturdy ladder. Keep us informed on your quest of reliving your 20s... What a THRILLING game tonight. The intern and I were on the edge of our seat when Torii didn't show bunt in the 9th inning. To answer your question, this game is an anomaly. I don't care who you are, you don't hit a HR every single at bat. Not even 50% of the time...But anyone in the league can lay down a bunt at least 80% of the time. Am I wrong?? The Twins also don't have ENOUGH bullpen arms.. Call up at least 3 more and get back to me. Now the last part, I don't know if I'm the right person to tell this. Chief and Diehard, communist spies they are, follow my every move. Humans are creatures of habit, and mine goes like this... Sleep in, eat breakfast tacos to fire up the SCORCHING hot takes. Black Sheep Lodge for White Trash Wednesday $1 16 oz cans The Park Tavern for Bull**** Bingo Bangers, the Container, and Craft Pride on Rainey Street - 2 AM order for Via 313 pizza Perry's Steakhouse for their Friday pork chop special And of course Whataburger! sorry listeners, the program director is telling me to go to break at this very seco....
  20. I don't claim to remember a vast majority of these guys listed in the trade examples... I recall Luis Castillo working out well. The one that stuck out to me and should include an asterisk is Johan Santana. He was a Rule 5 pick that year. The Twins had the #1 pick, Marlins #2. So essentially they swapped picks (cash received in deal) so the Marlins could select Jared Camp, and the Twins selected Johan. I guess you could consider that a trade? But again, that goes back to the debate of does the credit go to the person scouting the player or the GM turning in the card.....
  21. We got 2 and a half months of good Pelfrey, another half month of okay Pelfrey, now he needs to go.
  22. Diehard, you're really stretching my abilities talking about politics, but here I go. The 2015 Twins is clearly like Donald Trump. They made a TON of noise in the beginning, some thought "Could he/they actually win this?" And eventually both are going to crash and burn at the end. From a national standpoint, the 2015 Twins are like Carly Fiorina. Up until last night, I couldn't have pointed her out in a 2 person jail lineup. And the national talking heads don't think about the Twins anymore.
  23. AND we're back! The fajitas from lunch are kicking in, so I may be falling asleep answering phone calls. Let's go back to the phone lines, hello?
  24. A lot of great call ins so far.. Nick Punto's pending comeback, Bears driving buses, Tom Hanks greatest film Praising Terry Ryan, and feeding Arcia Fogo de Chao! Where else do you see topics like this? Only on Minnesota Twins Whine Line... We're going to take a break and hear from our sponsor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Me5VuQGgDuE
  25. Mickey, I love where your head is at. There isn't a better time to have Arcia fit in that right now, so they can all strike out together! I feel for Arcia; he's out of his element with no friends, and no good food to eat like Fogo de Chao. If he's not eating well, there's no chance he will be able to hit well. Let's start a kickstarter campaign to Send Fogo de Chao to Oswaldo!!
