  1. We reached out to Brian to comment on this pending award, and he sent in a video!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rl_NpdAy3WY
  2. I appreciate that I am even considered for this honor considering I only wrote for 2 games this whole season.. And in regards to your question, does Deep Eddy's vodka count as a banned substance for writing game threads??
  3. R.I.P. Yogi Berra, who passed away from natural causes today. Yogi was a legend on the field, and even more legendary with his quotes over his career. I wanted to create a forum so we could share our favorite Yogi-isms. "If I didn’t make it in baseball, I won’t have made it workin’. I didn’t like to work." - Yogi Berra
  4. Yep I would certainly let loose on Santana the rest of the way. No reason not to have him start 3 games out of 12 remaining when he's relatively fresh compared to the rest of the rotation. Like Jackmp mentioned, I would skip Hughes in the rotation and put Santana in there.
  5. Nick Punto is available for hire. Best bunter in recent Twins memory....
  6. Now it's a party, we have Disco in the house! Thank you for the call. It's a lot to chew on, but I'll do my best to explain. Clearly Suzuki was listening to North's call a couple of month ago, where we decided that an 11 man bullpen and bunting every at bat was the FUTURE of baseball. Was it the right time for Suzuki to go ROUGE on the team and call his own safety squeeze? Probably not. I don't trust that he's had enough practice with the bunt, unlike Nick Punto. Overall I love the aggressive play to go on his own, and prove us right that bunting > HRs; he just needs more practice with Punto to learn how to master the art. By this time next year it should be a different story. I don't care who's pitching, we'll be so amazing at bunting that even Suzuki will be able to put some English on the ball, and curve it back into play.
  7. I was getting excited when I saw the freshman warming up on the sideline. If there's any chance he plays he's gotta be mixed in this week before the Big 10 schedule begins....
  8. Thank you for the call Rizzo. Do we have a pro football player disguised as big dog? Who knows!! He could be a big Twins fan, or just a guy who needs marriage advice.. Like my grandpa always said, "The best marriage advice comes from people who aren't married. Now let's get some ice cream." As far as your other question, I don't think Mauer needs a phantom injury to lose some at-bats to Kepler. If I were Molitor, I'd speak to him, man to man. He needs to be the FACE of that brand in order to return to his elite playing days. I am currently writing a letter to Kemps to start this movement #KempsNeedsMauer
  9. That was a great effort to be honest with your wife big dog, but you made a CRUCIAL mistake: Admitting that you were not listening to her! Try the iPad trick to see if that helps. In the circumstance that your iPad is not handy, go ahead and immediately complain about a nagging injury. She will forget that she ever asked you the question if you scream at the top of your lungs that your knee hurts!
  10. Denny, glad to hear from you again. Your crystal ball of predictions for the Tigers does not sound THAT far off... But you did forget one key signing. The Vanimal will make his AL Central return, and win the Cy Young, capped off with a 2 hit shutout of the Twins in game 163. If all of this happens, Twins Daily will seize to exist, as every user will forget how to type coherent thoughts.. Every TD Policy will go out the window, and TwinsNorth will rally for Canada to bomb Detroit. That's not a world I want to live in Denny.... That's too scary to think about. As far as your other question, nah, there's nothing in the works for a nationally syndicated talk show. It takes a special kind of host to come up with national SCORCHING hot takes, and that guy isn't me. I only care about one thing: Scorching hot TWINS takes.
  11. Circus! Thanks for calling in yesterday. It sounds like you've got some 'splainin to do to your lovely wife. Did you let her know you were sour at Achter and not her? Either way, I have the perfect solution for you. If you have an iPad, go ahead and take a selfie of yourself smiling and happy. If this ever happens in the future, load the picture, and put it in front of your sour face the next time she asks you a question during the game. She will never know the difference!!
  12. Willihammer, you there? Hello?! HELLO?! Good god, what was that noise!! Shoot, I didn't hook up the phone line correctly....
  13. Annnnnnnnd welcome back! To Minnesota Twins Whine Line. It's been a few weeks since I last checked in, and we're nearing the end of the season. Since I've been gone, there's been a TON of planning for Whine Line in the offseason. And when I say a TON, I really mean chicken scratch on bar napkins. It's been a fun year for all, especially to all of you who made Minnesota Twins Whine Line what it is. We'll open up the phone lines a time or two the rest of the season, but the offseason is where the real HOT Twins takes happen. You know I'll be ready for that.... Let's see who dials in today. The vodka is poured, and the intern just paused his MLB The Show game. We'll take calls in the order that they were received. Test, test, hello?
  14. Interesting read in the Star Tribune today concerning the Gopher's mind set after the "win" last Saturday. Sounds like Jerry didn't handle the heat put on him at the press conference.... My 2 cents: Kudos to Kill for making the Gophers football team a relevant topic that people actually care about again. However, you're dealing with issues that most college programs go through: injuries and lousy QB play. That's why you're paid the big, well median for Big 10, bucks to be a head coach - to figure out how to overcome these issues. There's a lot that needs to be figured out this week - does there need to be replacements on the o-line? Can Leidner show any passing ability so defenses can play honest and not stack 10 in the box? Will they stop with their 1960's style play calling on offense?
  15. Honestly I never thought I would say this, but let's see what Nolasco's got at this point in the season. Maybe he can put together a 5 inning outing that won't shoot us in the foot. I don't trust Hughes at all right now. Maybe he's still trying to play through the pain since we're at the pivotal stages of this season, but the lack of velocity is alarming.... Pelfrey should not see another start as a Minnesota Twin, and Trevor May is too far gone from being a starter this year.
  16. Considering I haven't seen these guys play, other than the couple cups of coffee from Polanco, this is purely speculation: The Twins certainly need Nick Gordon to develop, losing out on a #5 overall pick would really hurt. The 10,000 foot overview of him has some concerns... He didn't take a lot of walks - 39 in 535 PA - he'll need to find ways to get on base other than hitting - .336 OBP / .696 OPS - Baseball Reference still has him listed at 160 lbs. - has he put on any sort of meat on those bones? Polanco certainly has an MLB ready bat, question is will the defensive struggles improve or continue? I'd like to see him next year as the next guy up in case Escobar doesn't work out at SS. Wander Javier is a highly touted signing, but he's also 16 years old. We have a loooooong wait until he's anywhere close to MLB ready. To answer your question, I'm most excited about Polanco, because he appears to be the closest to MLB ready, and already profiles a + bat for the lineup.
  17. Don't you dare, TR. It's painfully over right now. Can't imagine what his at bats would look like one year from now.
  18. Like we've mentioned in other threads, a team or 2 was going to get red hot in September to take over a division of WC spot. The Twins certainly could have been that team, and technically aren't out of it yet, but I'm losing faith in that each day. Just like Mike said, we're watching 2 different philosophies of teams. Texas looked more hopeless than the Twins a few weeks ago. They called up reinforcements and have been successful. Meanwhile we sent our reinforcements home, or keeping them for that coveted AA championship...
  19. Pathetic is right. Total collapse by the offense. Leidner doesn't get all the blame this game, but come on. Even Kent State doesn't respect the pass. It's time for a switch.
  20. Haven't paid much attention to the Twins today... down at a tailgate for UT football on a gorgeous day. The gophers game however, jesus.
  21. Yep this is getting ugly in a hurry with Leidner. Inexcusable if you cant move the chains against Kent State.
  22. Rumor has it they really want Mike Carp to provide great fishing depth off the bench.....
  23. We have similar beliefs for being fiscally conservative and more liberal on the social issues. I am starting to learn that's the case with these candidates; everyone has flaws and says outlandish things, I don't know who offends me the least yet.
  24. As a 25 year old with very little interest in hard-core politics, I wonder why a person my age would ever consider running for office and be a "career politician". There have been a lot of great points brought up in this thread, and I guess I'm making more of an effort to educate myself on the matter. I can tell you I voted Obama as an 18 year old in '08, because I bought into the "Change" marketing campaign. I voted for Romney in 2012 because I felt that a strong business background could help kick start the economy back to where it was.... The salaries mentioned earlier by Dave were eye-opening for Congress and the President. It's not a humble brag in your previous post, there are numerous careers out there that make more than they do.. Glunn's idea about having more televised debates for the lesser knowns out there - I can get behind it, but it's getting harder and harder these days to see the truth in those debates. The Republican debates lately I feel like are 100% for TV ratings, and they are saying outlandish things so they can be covered by every media outlet. I suppose they COULD be that crazy with their values, and if that's the case, god help us all. I don't have any solutions to offer up. As a new person in the field, I find all of this to be insane. All I'm looking for when I vote for the next president is the values I believe in, and the rest will all be white noise. However, I will still read a site like this to find political commentary over a Facebook, CNN, Fox News, (pick your poison) As a person just learning the ropes, those are way too hostile of environments to learn anything.
  25. I think Berman only does one broadcast a season, and lucky for us we had to endure that. Someone should tell him to lay off the smokes, and Trent Dilfer was yelling the whole game like he just attended a concert.
