  1. Annnd welcome back! To Minnesota Twins Whine Line. It's the 2nd time this week that I'm present and in the right mind set to talk HOT Twins takes. Our favorite ball club just put a pounding on the Indians, eliminating them from the playoff race. The intern is so pumped up that he begged me to open the phone lines. So here I am, just a man and his show. The vodka is poured, another Twins game is coming up, and it's a perfect night for scorching hot takes. We'll take calls in the order that they were received. Who's first on Minnesota Twins Whine Line?
  2. Make that a million and 3 votes for scampi
  3. Alright big Pelf, time to earn your future pay check for some other team next year!
  4. That's a great point on pitching. It made the debate pretty fun because there's so many elite rookies that made their debuts this year.
  5. No one should have to endure that kind of torture...
  6. Correa was in the mix too, but our concern was he may be switched over to 3rd or 1st before Lindor changes positions.
  7. Speaking of Lindor, my buddy and I were having a debate on which rookie in the MLB you would want the most on your team. My buddy went with Lindor because he looks like someone who will stick at SS the majority of his career. It's tough to pass up 40+ HR potential that Sano, Bryant, Schwarber, and Gallo have. I went with Swihart on account of the C position being desolate of young studs, with Sano as a close 2nd. Who would you choose?
  8. Do you have to pay to take an IQ test? I'm kind of curious to find out mine.. actually, scratch that, I'd rather not know.
  9. That's something we'll agree to disagree on and leave it at that. I agree that it is one of the top 5 storylines on TD this year but it's a moot point now that he's a Blue Jay.
  10. Just wait until next year when he's on the farewell tour. Bernadino, Lavelle, and Phil Miller are licking their chops thinking of all the puff pieces they can write about him.
  11. The love for Torii is going way too far.. I'm not taking this article seriously. Even during his hay day of robbing Barry Bonds at the AS game, I don't recall ever seeing his tires pumped this many times....
  12. I agree with John that Sano is the run away MVP and ROY. Any other year and it would be Rosario as ROY. But I wholeheartedly believe the Twins would have been a 70-75 win team without his contributions.
  13. We don't know for sure. You and I both know trade offers are rarely made public knowledge. However Tulo was discussed at length on this site, where Jeremy posted that the Rockies inquired about Gibson. The trade offer that was generally agreed upon was Gibson, Polanco + Kepler or ABW for Tulo. I would have pulled the trigger on a deal like that. That's coming from armchair GMs on TD, and of course nothing but speculation.
  14. Sano wasn't necessary to get Tulo at the time. We'll never know the real "offer" if there was any from the Twins, but Sano and Buxton certainly didn't need to be involved to get him from the Rockies. Dr. Vanimal gives this team a C+. On August 1st the grade was an F, but Jepsen turned out to be a pleasant surprise. They still failed to acquire additional arms and depth needed to be in a better spot than they're at today. Full disclosure: I was in camp #1 from the OP, and pro-Tulo on acquiring him.
  15. Every team claiming they have a better culture, philosophy, however you want to put it. "Gotta get back to the Twins Way." Or "The Twins Way doesn't work, gotta figure out something else." The replay system is quite flawed too. Go with the NHL's model and have a centralized hub that reviews close plays. Like Dave said, no need for 4 umpires to huddle up and analyze the video on-site. Take their bias out of the decision, and there would be less time wasted on reviewing the call, along with the inevitable arguments by both managers after the call was reviewed.
  16. That should continue once the Jets start the regular season
  17. Hope that Hughes can find a little bit of that Brad Radke magic considering the decreased velocity... Not to be a debbie downer but it's a tough hill to climb when 2 out of our next 3 starters are on the "hope for 5 and pull" track....
  18. Thanks for the call Mike. I can completely relate to how you're feeling. It's pretty tough to have red-tinted glasses when there was much more they could have done much more to solve these pitching issues. To answer your question, I will be pretty bitter if the Twins come up 1 game short of qualifying for a game 163. You may see #bitterVan if that's the case. For the time being, let's hope for the best. If it makes you feel any better, my intern played the last 7 games of the season on MLB the Show, and the Twins won ALL 7 games by a combined score of 125-7!
  19. Thank you for the call, Mickey. The Twins certainly wouldn't be in contention today if they decided to go with Papelbon. At the end of the day it wasn't going to be a good fit if he wanted to be handed the keys as the closer. On a side note, who would Papelbon choose to fight on the Twins if he was on the team? And which Twins player would you want on your side if said fight broke out? We broke it down, ranked below: - Miguel Sano & Kennys Vargas - not much needs to be said on this one. If any fight breaks out, I want the biggest guys on my side. Sano and Vargas could build a solid 600 lb. wall for me to hide behind while I say cheap shots about Papelbon, - Mike Pelfrey - another big body to hide behind. He's also supposedly a good clubhouse guy, so even if I'm in the wrong, I want him to back me up. - Byron Buxton - he may be small, but I've got to imagine his punches are LIGHTNING quick. - Eduardo Escobar - it's the smaller guys you need to be worried about. They've always been overmatched in fighting situations, and he could be the wild card in any fight. - TC Bear - the guy is fearless. His vision may be tunneled a little bit, but you don't mess with a bear. - Joe Mauer - he's the last guy I want on my side in a fight. I imagine his version of conflict resolution goes like this. "Well gosh, Jon, what's the matter? Did you just punch me? Stop it. Golly."
  20. And even though there are several instances of Papelbon being a tool, some team will be delighted to hand him the keys to the closer role on top of a new 3 year $30+ million deal.
  21. Annnd Welcome back! To, Minnesota Twins Whine Line. Last week we had some great questions coming in; Dare I say it was a Home Run?! I get it, you guys are all playing the Byron Buxton silent treatment on me and not calling in. Or is it because the intern didn't hook up the phones correctly? We'll figure that out. The Twins are coming down to the wire, and the hot Twins takes are a plenty. We'll open up the phone lines and see what regulars chime in today. You're on Minnesota Twins Whine Line, hello?
  22. Way too easy for Ohio on that long TD.
  23. There are plenty of non-smoking alternatives... brownies, cookies, lollipops, candy bars, gummy bears, oils, etc.
  24. Forgive my ignorance on the matter of increasing minimum wage, I'm just trying to learn since there's arguments on both sides. Let's say the minimum wage was increased to $15/ hr. Wouldn't the price of goods and services also go up on account of more currency being out there in the market? And essentially cancel out the increase in wages? And also, if the minimum wage is $15/hr, and those kind of positions are typically lower skill-sets/education requirements to obtain those positions, what will that mean for higher skill-set positions? My math could be wrong, but $15/hr is roughly $31k a year before taxes.. Compared to an engineer of any discipline (mechanical, electrical, civil), entry level starts off around $50-60k, more senior engineers are in the $100k range. I just don't know if low skill jobs should even come close to other higher skill-set positions out there..
  25. No doubt. In fact, North's employer asks HIM what his pay, schedule, and benefits should be when he walks into the office.
