    The Twins actually seem decently positioned. Before 2019's breakout, I think most people thought the Twins were a couple years away, and that they'd be entering into their window right now. The window opened a bit earlier than expected, but that doesn't mean it will now close earlier than expected. Nothing is guaranteed, but the Twins are in the enviable spot right now of having a top-half farm system while also being back-to-back division winners and a bunch of affordable contracts. Unless there are a bunch of surprising prospect busts, the Twins might sustain this success for a good stretch.

    How is it possible that there are still MLB teams with guys throwing a ton of awful sinkers?

    Certainly seems like Kuhl could be a lot better if goes someplace where the pitching coach will tell him to never throw another sinker again.

    Twins obviously won the trade, by getting something for nothing. But given what both teams thought they were getting, seems fair to say that nobody really won.

    One thing that doesn't cut in Wisler's favor, ironically, is the success of guys like Matt Wisler. If the Twins could pluck a guy like him out of nowhere and get those kind of numbers out of him, then they've got to be pretty confident in their ability to do it again.

    I've been most encouraged by Trevor May. He looks unhittable again.

    I can't get enough of Wisler closing the game with fourteen straight sliders, ranging from 80-85 mph. He and Thielbar are absolutely spinning the ball, and have been completely freed by the dictum that you throw your best pitch as much as possible and forget about throwing your bad pitches for variety.

    He's been surprisingly good. His pitches are excellent. If he can figure out where they are going before he throws them, he'll be unhittable.

    What a brutal game. It's been a while since I've seen someone fall apart so suddenly as Hill did with two outs in the third. He was cruising and then suddenly he was being shelled.

    Super concerned about Rogers, but shoutout to Theilbar and especially Alcala for coming in and throwing three scoreless with a runner on second base every inning. Baldelli had little choice but to trust those guys, and they took their opportunity.

    It's remarkable that even after a string of close games, there's still juice left in the bullpen because of how deep it is. Of course, ideally you win this Tuesday game with Poppen pitching a significant amount, and Stashak to close any doors. But you've got Romo and Duffey on a day of rest if needed as well.

    I don't think I worried that the Twins would lose for a single minute of this series. Just gently put the Cards to bed.

    This last game was really the first time where the Twins played anything even close to a major league line-up, so that may have something to do with it.

    For someone who does not follow the Gophers at all, who are their top three pitchers? I assume Max Meyer is #1, who are the others? Beyond Meyer do the Gophers have other credible MLB prospects?

    Rooting for Thorpe to beat out Chacin in the rotation.

    Am I wrong to be worried when I hear about a prospect's sinker? Unless they are Brandon Webb incarnate, I thought sinkers were generally on the way out among pitchers?

    I'm definitely one of those people who is terrified at the prospect of his arm falling off. This course of action seems smart to me, both for the team and the player. Graterol is already an impact arm in the bullpen. He can get major-league innings, while working up his stamina by throwing multi-inning relief appearances. Every year, you reevaluate and see if he's ready to start. But if not, it's no sweat, he's already very useful to the team, and there's no shame in a career as an elite reliever.

    Remember that his stats are slightly skewed by that sacrificial outing against Tampa Bay, where he had to come in and eat up a ton of innings after Perez got hammered. That wasn't a traditional relief outing, and it's not the kind of outing the Twins will be looking to use him in. Stats that include that outing should include an asterisk.

    Only concern with Donaldson is age and injury history. The Twins' positional flexibility and Rocco's willingness to rotate and rest should allow them to keep Donaldson in good shape throughout the season. In certain pitching match-ups, he could play as DH or 1B or take the day off, with other players filling in.

    From the high center field angle we have on broadcasts, Dobnak's sinker looks like an absolutely garbage pitch, just a no-hope offering headed straight for the dirt. Yet hitters constantly swing and miss at it!

    I understand the interest in Bumgarner from a standpoint of age and playoff success. I understand the worry about Ryu's injury history. But over the past few years, Ryu has been one of the. most. effective. pitchers. in all of baseball. That's gotta count for something, right?

    I think the only real challenge for the Twins is to pick between Perez and Thorpe. I hope to see both get a start in this final set of games, and that may clarify the situation. Perez's success against lefties is notable, but you generally are going to want length from him, not usage as a LOOGY.

    That's why he's at the end of the list. Thirteen pitchers would be a little unusual, but it may be necessary when you only have two starters you can trust?
