  1. WPA doesn't actually account for who is hitting, and I'm seeing that Duran & Thielbar had the same WPA by either b-ref or fangraphs. I think WPA should account for that, but as far as I know there isn't a published metric that accounts for that.
  2. Just picking out one part of that comment I agree with, I do think there's some validity to the notion that an elite reliever (athletes, in general) want to face the best competition possible whenever he can.
  3. I think you do always want your best pitcher to face the best part of the opposing team's lineup in the late innings, save for circumstances like a stacked platoon or 3+ run lead. Maintaining a lead is more important than saving Duran for bottom of the lineup hitters that just happen to come up in the 9th inning.
  4. You guys are funny. "It's easy to just ignore posters you don't like" - then turning around and taking most of my comments far more seriously than even I do and making it personal. Of course my comments are my opinions, who would be silly enough to think otherwise? I do admit that I don't like to let personal comments about myself go without some rebuttal, but if having the last word is so important to you have at it. I won't respond.
  5. Thankfully Seattle has been putrid offensively. They've really only got 1 or 2 guys hitting, and Josh Rohas is massively overperforming anything he's done in 5 seasons. I think only 2 players were above a .700 OPS in their lineup last night, one of whom was Raleigh their catcher.
  6. People are allowed to reply to me but I'm not allowed to reply - got it!
  7. I said I think it's in poor taste to post a mugshot and then people came at me. Kinda seems like you took my opinion too seriously but ok!
  8. Wait a second, I thought Thielbar was guaranteed to give up the loss!
  9. 1-2 are by far Seattle's best hitters. Coming up are .197 - .216 - .208 batting averages.
  10. The severity of the crime doesn't impact the tact of posting someone's mugshot.
  11. I just think it's in bad taste to post a guy's mugshot from 6 years ago, see it a lot.
  12. Just need to get past 1-2 for Seattle, their only scary hitters.
  13. A hit! Oops it hit the glove, who knows how they'll score it though (errors are a bad stat reminder)
  14. Quite the pitching duel tonight, might not see scoring until the 6th or 7th inning
  15. In the same way that my comment impacted you, it seems.
  16. Many, many comments are far from objective. Similar to your opinion on Seth's articles, a significant portion of commenters seem to view everything the team does in the worst possible light. Every trade is bad, every move Rocco makes is stupid, every player who isn't hitting .300 should be DFA'd. That kind of commenting is rampant and is the other side of the coin to your thoughts on Seth's articles.
  17. Just reading the headline I definitely thought the entire article was going to be "Buy a radio" Definitely appreciate the other options, particularly for those outside the broadcast range.
  18. Ok so he played a bunch more games in '23 and wasn't all that much worse than he was in '20. His '22 seems amazing but he didn't play that many games there. This is the problem with looking at fielding percentage. Again, among qualified CF in 2023 Michael A Taylor was 11th best out of 16. It's a bad metric unless a guy has like a .900 fielding pct and by that point you can just use your eye test to tell he's a bad fielder.
  19. I can't verify the accuracy of Spotrac, but they lay out the situation as though the Rays have retained $2M of his salary this season, the Dodgers retained an additional $4M and the Rays are on the hook for the $2M buyout next season if the mutual option is not exercised. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/player/_/id/18318/manuel-margot
  20. To anyone who seriously tries to quantify defense. You know if your glove doesn't touch the ball it doesn't count as an error, right? And Margot's fielding pct didn't really change that much from 2020-2023? 2020 - .979 (.979 in CF) 2021 - .985 (.983 in CF) 2022 - .986 (1.000 in CF) 2023 - .983 (.971 in CF) I guarantee that the Twins do not use fielding percentage in any way when evaluating players. Fielding percentage would have you believe that Michael A Taylor was a worse CF than Jack Suwinski last year. Adam Duvall had a 1.000 fielding percentage in centerfield last year.
  21. I'm almost certainly missing something in the salary breakdown, but I'm reading the Rays are paying $2M this season and are on the hook for the $2M buyout next year. So, with the $4M the Dodgers sent over Margot looks like a $4M player to me.
  22. Margot is the only player on this list that has any chance of being let go. Personally, I'd let him loose and give DaShawn Keirsey his roster spot - the kid is legit in CF and has really improved his hitting the last couple of years. It would make the OF more left-handed but Margot hasn't even been hitting left handed pitching all that well and he's been worse against LHP during this winning streak than he was before it.
