  1. Pretty much agree -- the current bullpen is probably good enough to win the division. I doubt if it is good enough to get them past the first round of the playoffs. And yes, another veteran starter is needed in case Gibson and/or Pineda falter.
  2. I protect heck with the fish nicknames. I prefer the term, “buzz saw”.
  3. I'm still ticked that the Twins missed out on Hector Rondon before last season--he signed a two year contract with Houston for a lousy $8.5 million.
  4. True enough, but the Twins don't have to trade Sano. It just might be interesting to see what other teams would be willing to give up for him.
  5. I wonder if there is anyone out there who would give up a decent pitcher or two for Sano?
  6. Tyler Kinley seems to be doing a pretty job in Miami this year -- 7.2 innings, 1 R, 8 Ks, 2 W, WHIP of 0.78. We could always try and get him.
  7. MLBtraderumors is saying Bud Norris' deal with the Nats fell through.
  8. Wait, so a short reliever can pitch more than one inning? Who would've thunk? I love it.
  9. Back in the Dark Ages (1970) before teams decided they needed 12-13 pitchers, the closer combination of Ron Peranoski and Stan Williams was 17-9 with 49 saves. They each pitched 67-68 games and each had just over 110 IPs. And somehow they often pitched more than one inning in a game. May and Rogers for closer combo until they prove they can't handle it.
  10. Buxton with a two-run single and a three-run homer. World Series here we come!!!!
  11. Sign Allen. If that doesn’t happen use May/Rogers a la Williams/Perranoski in 1970 as closer (look it up). Reed/Parker as set up. Add three of the remaining usual suspects. Done.
  12. I've been a Twins fan since the mid-60s. For me this is the most unsettling and unpredictable off-season ever. The team is a mess and I have no idea know how the whiz kids are going to fix it (Sano and Buxton coming around would certainly help, but that's on them, not the front office). It will be fascinating to see how it all plays out.
  13. Sad, but inevitable I suppose. Here's his letter. https://www.mlb.com/twins/fans/joe-mauer
  14. Astros repeat as champs after beating the Cubbies in the WS.
  15. For what's it worth, Mauer, Sano, Austin, and Garver are listed in the starting line-up for today. But then again, so are Grossman and Field.
  16. Buxton and Romero shut down for the rest of the season.
  17. I still want to see May closing out games for a couple of weeks.
  18. IMHO I don't see anything wrong with teaming Rogers up with someone else next year (I think May is a better choice then Hilgenberger). E.g. the 1970 Twins used Perranoski and Williams, and combined they had 135 appearances, 224 IP, and saved 49 games, many of which were 1+ inning efforts. If the Twins don't go out and spend a bunch of $$$ for a closer, why not make it a joint effort?
  19. I didn't realize a Twins closer was allowed to face only three batters in the 9th inning.
  20. You're actually looking forward to Gophers' football? (stepping back slowly)
