  1. I appreciate the fact that Bartolo Colon spent a portion of his very successful career as a pitcher for the Minnesota Twins.
  2. Long time listener, first time caller, Mr Bonnes. Is there any team in history that has been in the position the Twins are now and "won it all"? And then to say that none of the prospects obtained in these deals will make a difference in their future? I will put my money on at least a couple of the new guys making a dent in the future. The Twins are not a couple of relievers away from a championship. They need at least three dependable starters and the same amount of relief pitching. Beefing up for the future is the right thing to do at this point.
  3. Agree 100% (except the use of the phrase "secret sauce" which I dislike). This trade deadline was a polar opposite to the Terry Ryan era. For the first time in a long time, the Twins were players. They dumped pending free agents and JRM for some seemingly really good upside pitching prospects. I think the player draft was also handled in a much more "big picture"manner. I am very hopeful for the future. I think the team is in a much better place than it was a year ago. Baby steps.
  4. Still hopin' for Joan.http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01479/joan4_1479722c.jpg
  5. Man, I'd hate to see Escobar go. I know that "good clubhouse guy" isn't backed up with any stats, but Edwardo is the poster boy for guys you'd want on your squad.
  6. http://twitter.com/BlayneBlaynee/status/874679854863659009 A good sign?
  7. I like him too. Sounds like the back injury, once healed, will not be a concern. A good candidate to throw some extra money at and pry away from Stanford.
  8. In spite of every argument to the contrary, I am all-in on Hunter Greene. I will be disappointed in any other selection. He has the potential to be amazing. You gotta take a chance on that kind of potential. Sure, the probability is he falls short of the hype. But if the Twins pass and does he becomes a once in a generation talent we'll be kicking ourselves in the a$$ for not taking a shot.
  9. Nobody gets to the majors by accident. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, it just seems so negative to pick apart someone who didn't find success in the big leagues.
  10. Can we stop with these "worst" threads? These are men doing their best, they might have had bad seasons with the Twins, but earnestly worked hard and had comparatively bad results during their stints with the team. It just seems so pointless to try to call them out and talk sh*t about them. So what? Every team has had players that didn't perform/develop as expected. They are all 1%ers that actually made it to a major league roster.
  11. Despite the local media blackout I was finally able to hook into the Oakland telecast; just in time to see my sister and her British friends enjoying the game.
  12. I won't kick a man when he's down. Jepsen did a great job in the closer spot last year. It is a shame that didnt carry over to this season. I wish him the best.
  13. "Note also that Trey Cabbage will likely be joining the E-Twins in a couple of weeks. He has a back injury - different than last year - and should be manning third base for this team soon."
  14. The problem starts at the very top, the Pohlads. It starts with Jim Pohlad saying that Terry Ryan's GM position is his "as long as he wants it" (regardless of the product on the field). Describing the current status of the team as a "total system failure" then doing absolutely nothing to address that failure. I really wonder if any of the current generation of Pohlads actually have any real knowledge or interest in running a baseball club? Maybe the family's baseball passion disapeared when Eloise passed away. More to the point of the topic (sorry), most of the teams young prospects were/are highly rated on a national level. There must be an issue in their development through the Twins system that is causing the issues when they reach the big league club. Are the young Latin players able to communicate effectively with the coaching staff and their teamates (and vice versa)? Where is the on field leadership? Is Molitor an effective manager, communicator, motivator? He was hired with no history of showing that he could do these things. How about the veteran precence on the team? Torii proved to be a great uniter and seemily lit a fire under the team last season. We look for leadership from Mauer, Plouffe, Dozier yet these guys dont seem to be willing/able to carry that torch. These young players need to have leadership. I don't see any.
  15. Thank you! I would love to see him get a start or two in place of Hughes too. Nothing to lose at this point.
  16. Maybe I missed something, but what happened to Alex Meyer? Did he ever report back to Rochester after his demotion?
  17. Completely disagree with you. Spring training is about a lot more than who goes north with the team. How prospects perform, where they are dispersed through the system, who gets cut, seeing if Park can handle ML pitching, players like Sweeney and Quentin fighting to regain a major league roster spot. These are the stories that make Spring Training very interesting.
  18. I still can't figure out what you are suggesting as a "solution"? It's a guaranteed contract. The Twins can't just stop paying Mauer and unless Joe's concussion symptoms include insanity, he is not going to renegotiate the deal. He is what he is and, like it or not, he is going to be around a couple more years. Let's hope for a productive, healthy season from him.
