    The original discussion about Mauer's defensive numbers stemmed from this quote: 'btw, Mauer has a negative defensive bWAR for those that think his pressence helps the defense. The metrics disagree.' The Fangraphs metrics I provided earlier show that Mauer's presence at 1B DOES help the defense WHEN he's at 1B. DRS and UZR are counting stats and, obviously, with more time out there one would figure that those numbers would go higher (though not for sure). Problem is, he WAS on the DL AND with Molitor wanting to get other people time at 1B, it has affected Mauer's time at first. So, YES, Mauer's presence on defense DOES help the defense. There's no doubt about that. But he has to be out there for that to happen and for the counting stats like DRS and UZR to reflect that. He's a truly talented defensive 1B, he just needs to be out there more. It's one of my biggest issues with Molitor cause it's HIS decision who is out there, not Mauer's.

    Only three home weekend series against teams out of AL Central. A lot of great home series during the workweek.

    I have no problem saying I wasn't a believer until this year. Many times I said he was a 4th OF at best. But then I saw him live and in person this season at TF on the first Fri-Sun of June and I was hooked. Now he's my favorite Twin. I've said a few times, I bought his jersey and it's the first Twins jersey I bought with a player's name since Mientke. I have zero problem eating crow, in fact, I'll happily eat a ton of crow (and why not, I haven't been able to taste anything in weeks).

    Chapman is usually fun to watch. Not against us, but fun overall.

    we are middle of the AL in scoring. maybe this kind of strategy is why we aren't a bit higher...

    Certainly agree with the first part. It's certainly my biggest beef with Mollie. Playing for one run early in games (and in this case, using the #4 and #5 batter makes it even more annoying)

    Ugh...I've already said what I thought he told Sano to do...at least two or three times. I'm sure Mollie wouldn't have minded if he ordered Sano to hit a fly ball deep enough to score the guy from 3rd and it went out of the park or he got a double instead, obviously.

    When did I say I had an issue with what Sano did? Never. Again, it's the strategy that I think Molitor ordered I have an issue with. Sano did what he was told to do. And we DID get a run (by giving away two outs by our #4 and #5 hitter...in the 4th).

    I believe the manager told his #4 batter to sac bunt and then told his #5 hitter to make sure he hit the ball deep enough to score the guy from 3rd. In the 4th inning... And then probably told them the same thing again, and Sano grounded out instead, which happens. I blame the timing of the strategy. Both times.

    Twice. 4th inning Polanco sac bunt, followed by Sano Sac Fly. Let's give away two outs in the 4th to get one run using our #4 and #5 hitter to do it.

    Kyle is going to be 31, not 30. He's 30 right now and his Bday is in October. I'm in the minority, but after his 2016 and 2017, I'd be leery of believing he has turned the corner. Having said that, I'd guess the Twins will give him 4/52

    Per Fangraphs, Mauer, this year, is +1 DRS on defense, with a +2.1 UZR and +6.1 UZR/150. 26 1Bs have 550 or more innings at 1B. Overall, Mauer is ranked 2nd for AL 1Bs and 3rd for MLB 1Bs. So, compared to other 1Bs, Mauer is a top notch defender.     well, he only has like 80 PA with RISP this season, but if you want bigger sample size, for his career: 2087 PA with RISP, .334 BA and .935 OPS. He has always been very good with RISP.

    While we have some talent, it's not near what real contenders have and I think it's miraculous we have even managed to have a winning record in two of the last four years. I didn't expect us to have one this year. You can't go far without quality starting pitching, which we haven't had in quite some time. That falls on FOs and minor league development. Maybe even the people who draft our guys.

    I'm trying to wrap my head around the idea that Moloitor has been given strong talent. Compared to contenders, our talent has been lacking (to put it nicely) for quite some time. I don't know how anyone can look at the rosters we've had since Molitor took charge, compare it to the talent on contenders, and say our talent has been strong. The starting pitching along makes that assertion laughable (not that pitching has been the only area we lacked a lot of talent).

    boy, the juror Fox interview is such a pure Trump homer, it's sad. I wonder if she was actually the one juror who held out on the other counts.

    Apparently, one juror was the reason Manafort wasn't found guilty on all charges.

    Two things about his bullpen management. First, fans from every team rag on how thier managers utilize the pen. Just need to spend some time on other boards to see that. Second, we shouldn't pretend he was given a lot of talent in the bullpen to begin with.

    In completely predictable fashion, Urena dropped his appeal and started serving his suspension. This means he won't be available to play against the Braves this weekend as he was scheduled to do. Shocked, SHOCKED I say!
