  1. If Hicks hadn't gotten hurt, Buxton would still be in the minors and Robinson would still be getting the same amount of time. Buxton came back up because Hicks got hurt.
  2. The Twins rotation has the 28th best FIP (and ERA) in the 2nd half (and the worst in the AL). Quantity doesn't equal quality. Let's not fall into the same trap we did going into 2011 in regards to our thoughts on the rotation.
  3. I highly doubt this is true. I doubt people were calling for JD Drew two seasons ago. I'm also pretty sure signing JD Drew wouldn't have effected Escobar's development, at least at shortstop. :-)
  4. Liriano walked two of the first three batters he faced in today's game.
  5. Originally, this was the series I planned to see in person for my birthday, and then I moved too far away to get there in a day, so MLB TV it is! Go Twins!
  6. Only if you believe we have excess quality starting pitching. The team seemed to believe that going into 2011. Ooops. We do not have a quality rotation and May is a quality starter. He should be in the rotation.
  7. Only $9.99 for rest of season if purchased today
  8. This morning, two people on one of MLB Network shows gave credit to Shane Robinson and his walk for being the key factor in last night's game.
  9. 19 players have played 3B for 800 or more innings this year. Plouffe is 3rd in the majors in RZR (which evaluates range) for 3Bs. Only defensive wizards Machado and Arenado have a better RZR. Additionally, only two 3Bs in the majors have made more plays outside of zone (again, Machado and Arenado). Plouffe's range is pretty darn impressive.
  10. More chuckles: After a batter gets a BB, the professional announcer describes it as a nice (and then later a quality) at-bat (instead of a nice quality plate appearance). Announcers still ranking team defense by error totals. I mean, as nice as the Orioles defense is, KC has the best defense in all of baseball, yet they say Orioles defense is ranked 1st in AL and KC's defense is ranked 6th in AL.
  11. Another chuckle: MLB's ticker line note for the Twins/Rays is this: Hunter's BA since start of July is .172. Lowest in AL, minimum 150 PA.
  12. I already gave a link, right after it was asked for.
  13. He won't be ready until Ryan promotes him to the majors.
  14. "Conventional wisdom among coaches and managers is that restricting innings for young starting pitchers, and slowly increasing the number of innings pitched over several years, gives pitchers' tissues sufficient time to adapt to the workload of a major league season," said Thomas Karakolis, lead investigator on the study. "But all our data shows that these strategies really make no difference in preventing injury." '"Injury is the result of workload exceeding the capacity of the body's tissues, so while counting innings is a tempting way to measure workload, it's actually a very flawed method," said Karakolis. "If coaches are looking for ways to prevent injury, simply limiting the number of innings is not the answer. They have to look at how hard a pitcher's body is working during each inning, each pitch." http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/04/150406121354.htm
  15. I think of the playoffs as just a post season tournament for qualifying teams. The WS winner is very often not actually the best team, just a team that got hot at the right time.
  16. Think that's bad? What about the team in 3rd place in that division? A better record than 4 of the 6 division leaders and will likely have to play a one game playoff game on the road.
  17. Again, the Twins have sole possession of the second wild card.
  18. I love the use of the word 'boldly' in that sentence :-)
  19. Twins WILL get to .500. Absolutely fantastic!
  20. Minnesota Twins (64-61) Why they're legit: After pounding the Rays 11-7 on Tuesday, they've righted the ship again with their fifth straight win. ... Miguel Sano is a scary man: .287/.397/.592, with his 12th home run already -- in 45 games. He's a rookie but he has given the Twins a legit cleanup hitter. ... Brian Dozier has 26 home runs, on pace again to score 100-plus runs. ... They're 52-1 when leading after eight with reliable closer Glen Perkins. ... Maybe Byron Buxton's time is now. ... Nobody seems to think they can win, which means they'll probably win. ... OK, so they don't strike guys out, but they don't walk anybody, with the fewest free passes issued in the league. Why they're not legit: They were 20-7 in May, but they're under .500 in every other month. ... The advanced metrics say the Twins have had a lot of good luck in their sequencing and have exceeded their projected win total by 10 due to that "luck" (some prefer to call it clutch). ... We get it: Torii Hunter, great leader and all, but he's hitting .172 since July 1 with four times as many whiffs as walks. Why is he still in the lineup nearly every day? ... The rotation has the second-lowest strikeout rate in the majors. Strikeouts are good. ... Ervin Santana was supposed to provide a lift but he has been terrible, with a 5.53 ERA in 11 starts.' http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/62118/breaking-down-the-american-league-wild-card-race One of the guys in the video says Molitor is the guy who has turned this around.
  21. Twins are still in it and it's almost September. Really loving that!
  22. I think if you read the story that was linked (the one I responded to) and then read my post again while keeping in mind what was written in the story, it'll make much more sense and the offense you took will likely disappear. Basically, I never actually said that all religious people needed to believe in a deity in order to be moral. I said IF there are people who NEED to believe in a deity in order to keep themselves moral, one has to wonder how moral they actually are. That is not the same thing. And, BTW, I was born and raised in a very religious household. I served as an altar person until high school. My Mom and Brother are very religious. Although I am not religious anymore, I'm a very live and let live kind of guy and would never belittle people of faith and certainly wouldn't put everyone in the same category. Again, please read the story I responded to, and then my post, it should be clearer. If there are any more questions/comments for me after reading the story linked and then my response again, feel free to PM me and no need to try and filter it. I'm fine with a direct approach. Here's the link to the story I was responding to: http://www.npr.org/sections/13.7/2015/08/10/431205042/should-we-distrust-atheists
  23. Ryan is not going to go after a top flight starting pitcher. It could be the best FA SP class in history and they still wouldn't do it.
  24. Might be why I put a caveat in my statement, 'Anyway, throughout history, a huge chunk of the very worst things done were done in the name of religion, or at least using religion as an excuse.'
