  1. No on the 6 man rotation, teams have tried it and it doesn't work at all. I do like the idea of doubling up starters and having your traditional starter throw 2 times through the order and then the second starter come in and doing the same. gives most of the bullpen a day off and a way to take advantage of the pitching carousel of the 3 starters in Smeltzer, Thorpe and Dobnak sending one down after the game and calling another up for the same thing the next time though the rotation.
  2. I think left fielders are going to creep in taking that slap soft single away and pitchers are going to adjust to him. On the other hand I think umpires give him a little more respect of his strike zone knowledge and the OPS is good/great and he racks up a few more doubles but the batting average isn't as high. With him full time at 2B I am more interested in how his defense looks every day there.
  3. there was a medical reason at 21 you move a guy to the bullpen and a second teams doesn't like his medical. ikely some serious scare tissue, I think the twins thought he was a tickin time bomb and there was only so many bullets trying to get the most out of him before major injury sinks in were he either cant pitch again or isn't effective. a guy with that kind of stuff and a developing change at 21 doesn't get moved to the pen otherwise. With the kid the best, would have loved to hang onto him but I believe there was more going on medically and the twins thought Maeda was the better gamble. would have like to see a write up on #21 on the list to fill in here for my own selfish enjoyment.
  4. He looks to be very calm and confident on the mound. AA is always the big test though. can he stay healthy and effective at AA for a complete season. We probably wont see him in 2020 at the MLB level which is probably for the best. Hopefully in 2021 he is ready to take over a starting spot. It appears is delivery is smooth and his deception comes from all his pitching coming out of the same arm angle. kid looks to have big potential.
  5. I think the only one who might be coming back is Cruz. Odorizzi is going to get grossly over paid. Rich Hill at 41 is in his final go round. Bailey will either pitch well and get paid, or will bomb and be someone elses minor league signing. Gonzalez is a very valuable utility guy who you can plug and play without losing much. Which is a very nice luxury. I think he will move on after 20 with cheap options in the system. May will either have a solid year and be paid well, or he struggles with injury or poor performance and the Twins move on to a younger cheaper piece,
  6. Are both Rortvedt and Jeffers going to split time at AA to start the season? You could have Tomas Telis Graterol and The turtle at AAA. A lot of catching at the top minor league ranks.
  7. I really like the seemingly twins stance of if you don’t like his medical you don’t get him at all. We are not add more to the deal. It’s just him or some other combo but not him +
  8. So we are still assuming we are getting Maeda? With him on paper our starting pitching is on par with the division. Our offense should carry this team through the regular season. Baseball is a funky game, injuries unforeseen poor play or great play can carry or derail a team. Regardless of what happens is the Maeda deal it should be a fun summer.
  9. id be on the phone with Boston asking if they want to swap Rooker and something with Graterol. They still need a 1B if im not mistaken.
  10. Have always liked José Miranda reminds me a lot of Arraez. Guy who appears to control the strike zone and doesn’t strike out. Miranda appears to be a better and versatile fielder. Colina is a guy you should say could be #1 on this list. Throw hard reaching 100 if his secondary stuff comes along at AA he has top of the rotation potential. Looks like we might see him in spring training.
  11. The problems with targeting guys on teams like the Rockies is they are still trying to sell competitive baseball in 2020. They are 1 years removed from being a 90 win team they think/ hope selling to season ticket holders that things are going to bounce better for them in 2020. At the trade deadline it will likely will be a different story. not a lot of teams out there with pitching that are selling youth and a rebuild that have solid semi expensive pitching willing to move. You have teams like KC and Detroit Baltimore Marlins and nowPittsburgh. Everyone else thinks there is a chance they can compete in 2020 and this late won’t move pieces especially pitching.
  12. The problem with this depth is that no one can play CF and Buxton is regularly out. Yes you can move Kepler over but now you take a good right fielder and make him an average CFer and replace him with a below average RFer. Making the total outfield defense from a strength to a weakness. Really like the OF depth but should be moved for pitching at the deadline even if you have to overpay. Kirilloff is the guy who seems like he could be a big time difference maker with the bat and am hoping he sticks to see him in a twins uniform

  14. 1st base is not the easiest position on the diamond. It is the easiest to be passable. The footwork at 1B is critical, especially for right handers. Putting yourself in good position to field throws and make throws to 2nd makes the position look easy. With good coaching and a strong work ethic at it I think Sano has the skills to be good in time defensively. The throwing arm strength doesn’t matter at 1B it’s the footwork and quickly putting yourself in throwing position that makes the difference.
  15. We still saw last year that pitching wins. Not a lot of pitchers on this list. Many times high end pitching prospects never pan out and a lesser prospect figures something out and is extremely effect. The central the next decade will depend on who can develop pitching. A lot of young hitting on the horizon, the Twins are no exception.
  16. If Walker was healthy he would have or will get an MLB deal. I like the idea of being Danny Salazar who Dalvey is familiar with and I still like Aaron Sanchez as a guy who can cover later in the season if we have injuries or ineffectiveness in the rotation.
  17. Garver worked hard on his defense and the power came. I think many thought he would have to move off C and the bat doesn’t translate. Rogers is one who succeeded moving from starter to reliever adding mph and ditching the change. Also sticking with the fourseamer and pitching philosophy. also to consider would be Duffey, many called for him to be cut this time last year. Now people consider him one of our top set up men. Ditching the big curve and command of the fastball. how about Adrianza, he didn’t come up in our organization, was seen as a solid glove but never hit. Comes to the Twins bat develops and is a guy who can hit when he doesn’t play everyday. Something valuable that many good hitters can’t do.
  18. At this time no. Royce Lewis seems to uncertain the bat transfers to the majors. Kirilloff has a down year with the bat and doesn’t play a premium position, does the bat bounce back lime many think. Is he a corner outfielder or a 1B. Makes a big difference $ wise.

  20. baseball is all about adjustments, some guys can make them and make them quickly and some are one trick ponies. Oswaldo Arcia could crush low pitches, because he dropped his hands and hip. There was tons of these power hitters in the league and coming up through teams systems. Pitcher figured out high fastballs and breaking balls away and in the dirt. Coudnt adjust his swing to catch up to the high heat so he hurried it and was susceptible to the breaking ball. Very similar to Sano in early 2019. Sano adjusted hand placement mid season and mashed!!!!! Arcia never could adjust. Putting a 280lbs infielder who never played any OF with limited ST time to practice in RF was a terrible idea and a terrible position to put Sano in. Romero had a ton of late life on his fastball and a very nice slider. Control was always an issue. Not sure if he was trying something different mechanically that just didn't work or an injury or just lost his delivery. The twins kept him on the 40 so he will have a decent shot to make the team if he has the stuff back and some control. Not completely lost yet but guys out of options with stuff like that are going to stick in your system if you cant keep them on your roster.
  21. due to last collected bargaining agreement each team has a set amount of $ they can spend on international free agent under 23 yr old. Which means if he waits until after July 1st to sign the Twins literally have zero chance of signing him. The $ is equal so the big name play will sign in a city that can offer the most advertisement and locational incentives. Like ohtani he will not even consider the twins because they cannot offer anything he cant get someplace else in a better location. He will either be a Yankee, red sox or Marlin.
  22. I really do not like the defensive metrics. Defense to me is an eye test thing, and like you stated Sano doesn't pass! With all the shifts and 3B moving to traditional SS puts a premium on defense at 3B, and the need for greater lateral movement. I think a lot more balls get hit and hit hard there and the opportunity to make plays is significant. I think a move to 1B is perfect for Sano. Sano is an athlete, I know moving him ot 1B takes away his best asset, his arm, but a lot lets hard hit ball and a lot less asking to cover significant ground. With a good amount of time at spring training working on footwork and scoops I think Sano will be fine full time at 1B. Having the need to just knock the ball down and flip to pitcher and staying home at the corner will help. I think Sano will look ok at 1B and wont seem to be such a liability improving the pitching and defense significantly.
  23. I think more and more that the Twins are set on moving Sano to 1B giving him a full spring training to work on his footwork and defensively there. Maybe they look at a middle infielder and move either Polanco or Arraez to 3B
  24. I don’t want to over pay for Donaldson giving ownership excuses to not pay for pitching later. I have a feeling they are already set on Sano going to 1B. I think with a solid ST of work at 1B I think he will actually be pretty good defensively. If they don’t land Donaldson which seems likely maybe they go after a middle infielder putting Arraez or Polanco at 3B. Best way to improve pitching now is to improve defense.
  25. What if the Twins are dead set on moving Sano to 1B and we are way off on targets? I really like the Trevor Story idea maybe the Rockies will burn it down and complete rebuild. Maybe we look to bring in a good fielding SS like Jose Iglesias or even Addison Russell. Improve pitching by improving the defense.
