  1. How about David Ortiz career highlights? Or Gary Anderson missing the field goal in January 1999?
  2. So by this you mean he finds a strange attachment to a Happ pitch, and decides to toss it the way of a fan sitting near the field? Because that seems more likely than Garver doing anything productive with a bat in his hands.
  3. Well dammit. Since Colome will never get the third out, that means the pandemic will never end.
  4. Sam Dyson was a trade acquisition, which makes it even worse--we had to give something up in addition to the money we paid him.
  5. Colome pitching is the definition of laboring.
  6. Dick audibly sighs while announcing Colome is coming in. Lol.
  7. Gotta love the Cleveland crowd booing--why wouldn't you intentionally unintentionally walk Cruz here? If he wants to swing at a bad pitch to give you a free strike, let him, but why give him a pitch to hit?
  8. There are 199 qualified relievers in MLB. 3 of the 4 worst in terms of LOB% are Twins (Colome at 22.7%, Robles at 25%, and Dobnak at 30.3%). Rogers is at 88.9%, which is 56th (top 30%). Rogers is not the problem in this bullpen right now, but everyone else is.
  9. Man, even Arraez is pressing now. That's not the kind of pitch Arraez would typically swing at.
  10. There's approximately 54 games in every 2 months, and 100 win pace means you go 33-21. Assuming we lose this one, but then start that type of streak tomorrow, our record would be 40-36. That's 85 win pace, which probably doesn't make the playoffs. That's the problem with all the "it's still April talk". The Twins now have to play half the season at 100 win pace just to be a 90 win team at this point, and then play the rest of the season at 90 win pace. What so far this season has suggested this roster is capable of 90 win pace for any length of time, let alone 100 win pace?
  11. Dick really pressing to find offensive positives on the broadcast right now. Here's a hint--when your third-best offensive highlight is a sacrifice fly, you're in trouble.
  12. I could ask for 2019 Sano, Polanco, Kepler, and Garver. But outside of maybe Sano, I think all those guys are gone.
  13. Interesting things in the lineup. Arraez getting the start at second with Polanco on the bench. Day off for Polanco, or a signal that Arraez might now be becoming the starter at second, with Polanco in more of a utility spot (for the record, I argued for this alignment from the instant we signed Simmons). Buxton back--apparently the Twins have accomplished a great leap forward in sports medicine, and cured patellar tendinitis in one day. Sarcasm aside, this suggests a level of panic within the organization; this team was built to withstand multiple injuries, crank out solidly above average lineups, and grind other teams into dust as the season progressed. Bringing Buxton back after only one day off makes it seem like the team is desperate to get wins, and is willing to sacrifice the big picture to do it. Is 9-5 the best lineup we've been able to put out all year? If so, wouldn't it make more sense to bat Simmons 6th, and get him the extra PA before Willians, Mitch, and Jake?
  14. Hmm. By WAR, Rogers was 4th and Romo 10th. By ERA, 11th and 10th. By FIP, 5th and 11th. By xFIP, 3rd and 11th. By SIERA, 4th and 9th. Romo was clearly cooked last year, I think we can all agree on that. But Rogers, while not good, was far from our worst/second worst reliever. Your point that other relievers should have gotten higher leverage situations is not an unreasonable one, but it loses credibility when you ignore data.
  15. And Arraez is now our of the game, so we can "upgrade" defensively at first from Kiriloff to Astudillo. WTF Rocco.
  16. This Twins coaching staff is a disaster. They either didn't know you have to take a pitcher out on the second visit in one inning, or they completely forgot they had already been out there. Ridiculous.
  17. C--31/63 positive 1B--30/59 positive 2B--42/73 positive SS-30/47 positive 3B--38/67 positive RF--45/70 positive CF--35/73 positive LF--45/85 positive DH--15/31 positive So only catcher, center field, and DH have fewer players with positive WAR then negative WAR. Seems like catchers and center fielders are not giving enough credit for their defensive ability, and DH's are being penalized too much for not playing defense.
  18. According to MLB.com, patella tendinitis for Buxton, which he's been dealing with all year. So much for 2021 being the year Buxton stays healthy. I'm guessing this sticks around the whole year unless he gets totally shut down for a couple of weeks.
  19. That fWAR would be for all hitters, regardless of position though, no? In reality, catchers are so much harder to find that if you want to use WAR, it should be limited to only catchers. 66 guys qualify as catchers on fangraphs, and less than half (31/63) have positive WAR.
  20. Am I crazy to say I would rather see Gordon at short, Polanco at second, Kiriloff at first, Arraez in left, and Astudillo on the bench?
  21. I hope Nick has a great career, and makes us forget about the fact we could have drafted Trea Turner in his place.
  22. Like call the season off just before the 8th inning starts on Friday?
  23. Blankenhorn probably is significantly faster--in 2020, Donaldson was the second slowest player on the team (24.9 ft/sec), behind even Nelson Cruz. He's even worse in 2021, down to 23.8 ft/sec. The real question is, what are the odds that the extra speed will be needed, and does that outweigh the superior defense Donaldson offers, and the possibility of him batting again in a potential 11th inning? I say no--unless you want to steal a base or bunt a guy over, 3-4 feet per second probably won't come into play very often. It might on a sac fly, but you can always wait to see if Donaldson would have ended up on third with less than 2 outs before pinch running.
  24. I'm willing to accept that officially, a pitcher can't blow two saves in one game. But realistically? Colome blew two saves in this game (with an assist from Rocco).
